The best aspect about Spotfire by far is it's endless possibility of customization. One is free to build very streamline basic reporting with the usual visuals provided by Spotfire or alternatively go deeper and developer custom solutions leveraging on a combination of Python and JS. It's truely perfect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So far I've come across only a few issues that really made me dislike Spotfire, amongst which small things, such as the missing option to use multiple Y-Axis scales with individual ranges and data types simultaneously (found in several other tools nowadays). Also color coding could get an update, allowing users to set default sets of colors for all visuals e.g. based on the values of specific dimensions. Another issue I found to be a possible improvement is the renaming of Document Properties, which I understand might be complicated, but really would provide additional freedom to the developer. But these are minor issue, I've got mostly only good opinions about Spotfire. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Newly introduced natural language queries. Streamlined UI. Ease of use for the end user (simple to understand). Ability to have enterprise cloud hosting. Now the support of live data via the web client — not just relegated to desktop users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
UI was streamlined too much — it now takes 2-3 more clicks that previous versions. Developers encounter a learning curve for the backend. Lack of pixel perfect reporting and the ability to cleanly export reports via PDF or excel without too much manual manipulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Graph a lot of data in one place. Easily toggle between various graph settings and display types. Filter data for more precise control Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Very difficult to use and the user interface is clunky. When it works, it works well. However, more often I find myself unable to create the exact visualization I want. Or I have to manipulate the raw data (e.g. add dummy data) since I cannot get the software to do what I want it to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The combined abilities of Spotfire's own in-memory engine, R data functions, iron pyton and javascript scripts allow for creating a very unique user experience that provides more than just visualizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The server-side upgrade process is better than it used to be, but still has room for improvement in making it simpler to upgrade from one version of Spotfire to the next. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
TIBCO spotfire has the most functionality as of Business intelligence softwares out there. It provides you all these cool visualization while you can wrangle the data with R, python in the back end. All the GIS and map features are pretty useful and intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Although it better than other B I tools out there, spotfire is not the best place to have a lot of computation with significant amount of data. It freezes when you have a few million rows running doing computations for calculated column in the back end. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Spotfire does a great job at showing trends in our metrics within our department. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The time it take to pull and analyze within spotfire can be challenging. Also the color scheme makes it hard to look at compared to others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Spotfire handles disparate data sources very well. It is also very easy to turn around a quick analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some of the collaborative features in spotfire are lacking, namely team bookmarking capabilities. My team and I use bookmarks extensively, however, there are only two types of bookmarking features (public & private). I can create a public bookmark for collaboration, however, my team members must create an additional unique bookmark in order to expand upon work/analysis. (This becomes problematic after several team iterations, as several bookmarks have to be created in order to expand a team analysis). Spotfire needs an additional bookmark type ("team" or "global", this additional bookmark type would allow public publishing, but also allow group editing/saving/etc for non administrative roles.) TIBCO Spotfire sets the industry benchmark for analytics tools by perfectly balancing performance with usability. While I have been using Spotfire for a long time now, I still admire how easy it is for a new user to get on board with the tool. It takes less than a day to find your way around most features and start working on real data models! Less than a day! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Working on very large data can be tricky on Spotfire when executing inefficient transformations. It would help if Spotfire could detect these inefficiencies rather than execute the transformation blindly.
On the other hand, Spotfire offers limited visualisation features when compared to hardcore BI tools like Tableau or Looker. If reporting is your primary use case, it might be better to use Spotfire along with a core BI tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I love about spotfire is how easy it is to link to data from outside sources. Once you have the data imported it opens the door to a good variety of visualization options and then with the scripting to can customize them to meet your specific needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is a steep learning curve with the scripting. When the network connection is unstable you loose the connection to your data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The state of the art interface which incorporates visualization, discovery, predictive analysis of data without any complex coding algorithms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is not enough marketing and commercial promotion of BI (business intelligence) tools which could support and intensify user experience with visualization, real-time analytics and interactive reporting.
Combination chart does not permit stacked bars along with a line. For example: If I create a stacked bars setup it can easily be broken down with the column's individual values by color, but the same will not be possible with the line. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
TIBCO Spotfire can in the simplest form be called an analytics platform. It is one of the market leaders when it comes to data analytics and data visualization. The power of this tool lies in the beauty of the charts, graphs and how it can make your data come alive. The visualization adds a different character to the data which makes it super easy to understand and interactive as well because you can just give it a glance and understand immediately what they are trying to depict.
The inbuilt AI engine is also very intelligent and up to date. It can track the trends, patterns and anomalies. It has been very useful for us because we are able to call a certain situation beforehand and it is usually correct.
The size of the data is not a problem for this tool as it can ingest millions of records and spit out beautiful looking data in no time and saving you time and effort. It can accept the data from multiple sources like Excel, CSV, Access etc ... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There aren't many things which I could categorize as dislike because this tool does the job so well. Although there are a few improvements which I would like to suggest. I would love to a major upgrade in the interface because the menus and features are all there but they arent't placed very neatly or not qa lot of thought has gone into designing a simple clutter free and go the point GUI. Spotfire gives businesses the capability to quickly deploy enterprise-scale analytics from numerous data sources and empower users to drill down all the way to the row-level data if needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is no way to mirror a visualization between pages. If I have an analysis of numerous pages, and I want one visualization to appear on every page, I must duplicate the visualization over and over. If I need to make a change, there is not a master version, I must make the change to each individual page. Same goes for duplicating visualizations across analyses. We love how easy TIBCO makes it to create powerful interactive data visualizations in Spotfire. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We've been using the TERR engine to workaround the lack of native product support to create a Spotfire table from the results of a webservice / RESTful API query. Most of what a Spotfire needs to call a RESTful web service is already in the Data Function registration UIs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the bright visuals and the immense aggregation capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The more recent versions have hidden some of the more useful features behind panels, and made them harder to get to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The data canvas allows me to easily pull disparate data sets and work with them intuitively. The visualizations are easy to set up and make responsive and interactive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The licensing scheme - the price per user for analyst is prohibitive to having many analysts, which creates a dependency on architects and BA's to create dashboards that my users could construct themselves if they had analyst. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Although it is a pretty outdated platform, Tibco is very responsive to query and script writing. While this requires a lot of back end work and can be very very temperamental, it provides the opportunity to customize your data outputs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We dont like how updates are not life. Currently the system updates every 24 hours. This doesnt allow us to get real time date and instead leaves us estimating and projecting far more than we would ever want to. Furthermore, the filters and outputs are not full proof, and the percentage of data that is able to fall through is too much. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Tibco spotfire allows us to connect multiple SQL databases into one analytics tool. These seem less connections allow our non SQL experts to select their own tables to start modeling dashboards with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When you are building new dashboards, any time you want to test a change it will need to reload the dashboard. You need to get good at limiting your changes to smaller test subsets before making it for an entire data set. If not, you will spend a lot of time waiting for the data to load. - very intuitive usage
- all required visualizations availabe (+ more)
- customizable tooltips
- excellent options to separate data (line by, color by, trellis by etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- missing feature: ability to (1) save the exact configuration of a particular filter for a particular column and (2) apply those saved settings to the same filter / column on a page with a different filtering scheme
-- most common example in test engineering: DUT_ID
- fixed, non-tuneable limit on number of elements in list boxes (seems to be ~1000, which is insufficient)
-- the ability to define that max in the options somewhere to whatever an application requires would be great
- no multiple y-axis scales for boxplots
- visualization defaults in options
-- some settings seem to get irgnored sometimes (e.g. formatting and font size for trellis headers)
-- some settings that are available in the properties of a visualization cannot be defined as defaults (e.g. box plot jittering)
-- some defaults make literally no sense (white color for median on boxplots while the default background is also white) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Designed to be simple but powerful tool. It is easy to use but does complex visualizations, fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nothing in particular. I have worked with other tools like Tableau and PowerBI, but prefer Spotfire better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The data wrangling capabilities are amazing. The ability to write data functions using R and Python really make the tool extensible. We have been using the product for over 5 years and we've connected to over 20 data sources and have build dashboards in a matter of days Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It would be nice to be able to change the font type and size on the axis, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
