## TextPad Reviews
  ### 1. One of the best text editor for large files on Windows OS!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aeshwer T. | Member Of Technical Staff , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2022

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

The best thing about Textpad is that it is able to process very large-sized log files which I frequently use while working on Java application products. As compared to other text editors like notepad++, it is very stable and rarely crashes.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

Textpad is only available on the Windows platform which limits the scope of use. It would be really nice to see a Mac-Os and Linux version of this editor. Also, an improvement on the dark mode will be appreciated.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

If anyone is looking for a stable editor on windows, then go it..

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The key benefit of using TextPad is mainly the stability and robustness of the editor app. I am able to analyze and process very large-sized log files which helps me debug my issue and improve productivity.

  ### 2. A verstaile editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohammed A. | Manager - Data Processing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2023

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Macro recording, it finishes the task in seconds. No need to redo the same job manually again.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The recorded macros cannot be edited or trimmed. We have to re record to alter the process, it is bit annoying.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to open multiple files at a time and replace text with regular expression for all opened documents which I have never seen any other similar tool.

  ### 3. Super text editor tool for large files

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arijit D. | Associate Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2022

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

It is simple to use and offers more functions than a notepad does. TextPad is an excellent tool for rapid modifications that allows us to code swiftly. It is also fantastic for coding because it highlights the code for me while coding.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

It's challenging to think of any cons for Textpad. This is an excellent text editor for general editing, as was already described. If someone frequently create HTML/XML or do data processing, Textpad does not have several more typical functionalities in these situations. Update tags are supported in Sublime Editor, which is excellent because TextPad does not. As a generic editor, Textpad is effective overall.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most crucial function that a text editor should have files comparison; it allows users who work with thousands of files to track changes over time. In my instance, it was useful for ASM and file comparisons, including HTML, CSS, and JS.

  ### 4. Best editor tool

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

It is straightforward to use, and it has more features as compared to a notepad. We can do coding in TextPad very quickly, and it's an excellent tool for quick edits. It is also great in coding because when I do coding its automatically highlights the code.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

One time I was using the large file in TextPad, and it hung, and when I tried to reopen that file, it was exactly, so I thought that TextPad didn't support the large file, and when I set the font size in and opened that font box it hangs in that so this is a terrible thing I am experiencing

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly I am doing coding in Texpad because its very easy to use and highlights the code so that I can understand my code easily and the benifit is that we can edit our text easily and It has automatic code indentation

The user-friendliness of the editor. It is small in size and is very easy to use. The in-built tools make working easy.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shanon S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2020

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

It is the perfect complement to our work tools, completely avoiding wasting time, since we can organize our tasks and manage them neatly. In turn, the programming team can edit web pages with ease, I have even proclaimed an IDE, making the most of the team's capabilities thanks to its various functions. It is extremely powerful and functional, which is necessary to satisfy the most demanding text editing requirements, allowing you to edit files up to the limits of virtual memory, without presenting errors. Windows multiple document interface allows multiple files to be edited simultaneously up to 2 tabs at the same time, making it suitable for improved workflow.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

It provides a highlight and various color codes, which is a very beneficial visual tool, although it may not seem like it at first glance, with this function it is much easier and faster to capture codes, even to refresh the vision of whoever does it. The bad thing about this aspect is that its support is somewhat limited, so far we have used it only in html, since it does not work with common ASP or Javascript. However, as a team we are satisfied with the potential contribution that software makes to our company.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

It is one of the most powerful text editors compatible with Windows. It has an accessible software design as it complies with the recommendations of the Microsoft Windows Guidelines. Its powerful interface and regular engine is compatible with Perl and JavaScript. It is very light and easy to start, very functional and has professional features, which make it the replacement par excellence and tools of the native notebook, providing greater benefits, to empower companies.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly, in addition to the usual cut and paste functions, we can correct commonly occurring typing errors, with commands to switch between upper and lower case or relocate words, characters and lines. The most important thing is that any change made can be undone or redone, even the first one made, which has been very helpful in case we make an unexpected mistake. We can work editing huge files, up to the limits of virtual memory, without presenting any inconvenience, even when we edit several tabs at the same time, an aspect that improves the fluidity and productivity of the employees.

  ### 12. Powerful Text Editor

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to compare files, find particular text, find and replace particular character, change case for certain word.....

  ### 13. Excellent text editor for Windows

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jose Tomas P. | Lo mejor y peor de notepad++, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2019

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Textpad is very good, as it is useful for large files, while others fall short in capacity. It works quite well with XML, SQL (various varieties), and other types of files. It is compatible with 32 and 64 bits and supports almost all languages.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The color code is very good for HTML, but it is not available for common ASP or Javascript.
Images cannot be added to it.
It only has support for Windows and does not have it for Ubuntu.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

The main reason why I recommend this editor over others is because of its ability to open large files, as it is the only program I have seen capable of doing that.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Open large files, many others have errors and are not compatible with large files. It is very easy to load data-based programs. It is a powerful editor that uses system resources very efficiently. This editor is the best alternative for very large files and is the main reason why I use it.

  ### 14. Easily Handle Large text files

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2019

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Power tools to handle large text files. Great Regex functions and easily select and edit large files without crashing and buffering. Adding syntax highlights is easy too.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

I wish it would be updated more often. Development seems to be a big stagnant as well the keyboard shortcuts could be improved.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Regex search and replace is my main use case.

  ### 15. TextPad is one of the most comprehensive text editors.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diego G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2018

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

TextPad is one of the most comprehensive text editors on the market. The best thing about TextPad is its versatility. It can open practically any file that contains text or code. And external plugins make it a powerful tool.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The biggest weakness I see in TextPad is its graphical appearance. It has a rather outdated, not very modern graphical appearance. Other competitors surpass it in terms of graphics and UX.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

I recommend using it especially for Java files. Also, its free version works well so you don't have to spend money to at least try it.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my company, we use it to open various types of text or code files, especially Java files, since with some installed plugin, we even make it compile .java files.

  ### 16. Workhorse for large files

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick H. | IT Infrastructure Engineer, Insurance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2017

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

TextPad can handle virtually any size file you throw at it. Very fast for doing regular expression search/replace on those large files. Therefore it still is the editor I use for handling very large logfiles or datafiles.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

It used to be the editor I used for all editing of plain textfiles, but there are nicer looking alternatives for that, like SublimeText or Atom. Regular expressions in TextPad take a little time to get used to when it comes to escaping special characters.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

For general purpose textediting there are nicer alternatives, but for very large files this is a great editor.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ability to handle very large files (hundreds of megabytes to a couple of gigabytes) with relative ease.

  ### 17. Great software with Robust features

This is a great software for a lot of reasons: The features are very reliable and I feel all the help with spell check and transposition of characters, etc. are pretty cool. I feel this is a software that can help a lot of people with their writing and speech dictation.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

There is really nothing to dislike here. I feel it is something that will really help a lot of professionals in their respective spheres. There si not a lot to dislike here to be honest. Overall, it is a great product and deserves a shot by most professionals.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

Give it a shot and it might just surprise you. It has some great, robust features and can really help a lot of professionals in their writing skills.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps with good spell checking and also transposition errors, etc. Overall, a great software for sure.

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

There is nothing more to dislike about this software, but the only thing is prefer less for this software is the installation space.

I use it as a plain text editor in place of notepad or wordpad and even for programming IDE

  ### 19. TextPad evaluation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2017

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Ability to easily manuever lines of code, input files, and text documents for simple editing

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

Interface is a little dated, has a feel of an order GUI

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Comparison of analysis input files to investigate differences. As previously stated, comparison of files and quick file manipulation is the biggest benefit.

  ### 20. feature

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2017

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

integration

  ### 21. Textpad good for notes

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Farming | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2017

  ### 22. Simple and useful code editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anastacia M. | Desarrollador de software, Program Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Run fast and is lightweight, it possesses all those features that other more advanced editors have, easy to use and configure, Macros can be really useful for task automation, the possibility of having many views of the same document, well established for general development and project construction.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

It does not have integration with GitHub or other source code control, the product's website is really old and outdated, which does not inspire confidence or the sense of purchasing the product, the interface is somewhat outdated and has few visual themes to configure it, it does not have the capability to extend it with plugins, it does not have code completion.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

Considering that there are other much better established alternatives for editing and creating code, TextPad can fulfill a wide range of features in a simplistic and fast way. If you are working on simple projects, you can improve your level of productivity by using it.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creation of scripts is a useful and simple tool, it can be set as the default editor in the operating system and used for common editing or general programming tasks.

  ### 23. Handy tool for lightweight HTML editing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh H. | Social Media Specialist, Government Administration, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

TextPad is a great shareware text editor that packs many advanced features that go above and beyond the built-in tools in Windows. It's especially geared towards editing HTML files, and it includes many tools and niceties that streamline the workflow of HTML coding.

When editing HTML files, TextPad offers the standard features you'd expect, plus a few useful add-ons like a clip library docked on the sidebar and easily accessible find feature found on the toolbar. These features are the most likely to be used very often, and they're readily available wherever you need them.

Above all, TextPad is a great lightweight tool for when you don't want to launch something like Dreamweaver, and it has enough included features to get the job done. And if you want to shape it into something that specifically fits your needs, there are a ton of extra plugins available from the TextPad site.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

There is no built-in support for many popular languages, the most notable of which is CSS. These days, if you're working with HTML you're almost definitely working with CSS as well. While TextPad does offer syntax definition files you can download for various languages (including CSS), there's really nothing to indicate that this is the case and you have to know it exists, go looking for it, and install it yourself. In a modern HTML editor, CSS should be included out of the box.

TextPad is also missing a few built-in line operation and text manipulation features that exist in similar tools like Notepad++, but with enough effort you could probably re-create these features using macros and plugins.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

You may not be able to completely replace your existing tools with TextPad, but it's a great addition to more powerful tools when you need to get in and out of a file quickly and efficiently.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For us, TextPad is a great supplemental tool to more robust WYSIWYG editors that allows for very quick edits and operations when a full-featured tool is not needed.

  ### 24. Excellent alternative as a code editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alberto C. | Desarrollador de software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Simple code editor, it comes with all the features of much larger and more complex environments, it is fast and simple, you can create macros for repetitive tasks, it is easy to configure and quickly adapts to your needs, it has support for plugins and you can edit the same file with multiple views of it.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

It can be somewhat expensive, it usually does not have all the complex features of other IDEs, it does not support GitHub, and it has limited support for other programming languages, it does not support SASS or LESS files.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

For simple projects or bug fixing in the code, it can be truly helpful. I believe the best adoption is for front-end projects. Try it for a certain period and be surprised by the level of productivity you will achieve.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Front-End projects, editing and creating HTML and CSS files, is quite easy to use, and offers a high level of productivity when used efficiently.

  ### 25. Lightweight code editor

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adriana L. | Front-End Developer en Poe Consulting, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

It's great for simple and common code editing tasks, it has multiples views from an actual opened file, it has a beautiful syntax coloring, you can compare two files for changes, it loads fast, easy to use and configure it, you can create Macros for repetitive tasks.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

It's not free and quite expensive, the UI is not very friendly and it's outdated, the webpage is old and outdated, it doesn't support last tech stack like NodeJS or CSS preprocessors.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

It's a great alternative and better than others OS default text editor, you should try it and consider others free alternatives.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple code editing, it's a great alternative because it's lightweight and runs fast, you can complete all common code tasks easily and without problems.

  ### 26. A great educational software

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matteo M. | Studente, Education Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

I got to use Textpad during the first college programming courses: I used mainly software to program in Java, not in advanced courses. Textpad is a great editor to start developing for it is easy and intuitive, and does not have many options. This makes it easier to focus on what you are doing: the main pros are the extreme lightness and ease of use. You can see the files, there are editor tabs, simply edit function and syntax highlighting. A very useful option is the ability to set compile command via menu option, setting the right environment variable under windows os. This makes the task of compiling (not using shell) less confusing, especially for those who are beginners in development world. Also macros are super useful.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

There are no particular against for this software, unless its simplicity: just needs become more advanced, this software is no longer suitable. Making it perhaps convenient to do more than oo advanced programming scripting. It would be nice to introduce an exploration of java libraries with tip command to use, but this would be detrimental to the performance and in any case there are other IDE that make this task at best.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

Use this software if you want simplicity and speed: it is suitable for older computers, it consumes very few resources.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing in particular, this software has been very helpful in the realization of the first libraries in Java programming courses.

  ### 27. Great Document Search

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darlene B. | Product Development Manager, Oil & Energy, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

The ability to quickly and easily search in documents.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

I haven't found much to dislike, primarily use search capability.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Search within any file extensions.

  ### 28. Nice experience with Textpad (friendly features)

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Easy to use features such as the tool box. Easy editing, find and replace features.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

Can have an improved sorting feature. There are other software such as Notepad that have better sorting capabilities.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly used for data storage, typing instructions and guidelines for software use. Easy to use.

  ### 29. Easy to use and customizable code editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zoraida M. | Junior Front-End Developer, Program Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

  ### 30. As good for data as for text

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben Ji K. | Manager, Standards and Quality - Wind, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

Though looking like a simple text editor, TextPad has the ability to open large files of data without being overwhelmed, edit them in an organized manner (edit by row or by column for example), and record and run macros to do repeated editions. I particularly like the ability to open several files and easily switch from one to the other with a column menu and/or tabs.
It largely enhances the functionalities of a simple text editor without getting as heavy and complex as a full editor.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The macros run quite slowly on large files, if yo need to repeat an action on each row for example. You have to launch them and forget, and do something else until it's finished. It's however still appreciated to be able run macros, which avoids having to program in Python, VBA or other programming languages to do simple editing tasks.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

If you are looking for a text editor not too basic, but without going as far as Word (for text) or Excel (for data), it is good compromise. It is very helpful to work on several files at a time, do basic edition and especially run systematic editing.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Despite the name of the product, II mainly use TextPad not to edit text, but to visualize large data files. It is easier than Excel or dedicated software for a quick overview and data check, but more powerful than simple text editors. I use it a lot to compare several files together, merge them, or do minor but repetitive corrections.

  ### 31. Good text editor

**Reviewed by:** Jesus S. | Front End Developer, Arts and Crafts, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

The ability to display statistics of the code I work on and the ability to compare documents in split screen, and the fact of being able to divide the screen into multiple work areas.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The fact of not auto-completing tags such as HTML code and shortcuts should be simpler or require fewer keys, and the user interface should make it easier to locate things.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

Place all the functions well in the user interface and consider learning the shortcut paths to achieve greater efficiency and time savings at work.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to program in HTML and CSS, and with the split screen area, the work becomes more productive for me as it allows quick access to different codes.

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

It can open big files that are not opened by other apps

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

If you work with large files, you should use TextPad

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 37. Better than notepad

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danielle M. | Business Funding Analyst, Management Consulting, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2016

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

I used to use notepad for short notes that didn't need formatting but it wasn't powerful enough. Textpad has better search, find/replace, and macro features and the layout is nicer. One of the nicest features is the cost - FREE. There's a paid version but the free functionality is more than enough.

Batch indenting and editing features are great, as are the customization options.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The layout and look seems to be from the 1990's. I don't know if it's being updated but it's definitely a blast from the past. The menus are a bit cumbersome, hard to find a lot of useful features without digging.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

It's free so try it. Better than your stock text editor. If you find yourself wishing yours had more power, try out Textpad! I wish it had a mac version, but for my time on windows PCs it's good.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Needed more functionality than notepad for short notes that don't require something like MS Word to do. It's fast, free, and easy and speeds up my work, especially when I go back to old documents and need to find something specific.

  ### 39. Easy notepad for editing your data

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vijay Ganapathy M. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2015

**What do you like best about TextPad?**

The block select mode in Textpad is like the most. You can easily copy and past the required content using this option. Also, the show tab spaces is really helpful while copy pasting contents from excel. Macros are of huge use when you want to automate the editing process. Once you set up a Macro formula it does the editing automatically for you instead of you doing it every single time.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

The GUI is very basic and unattractive. It can be made fancy. If the TextPad community can post training videos on the various features available and how to use them, it would be really useful and many users will start using the product.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

If you want an advanced notepad then TextPad is an option to consider. TextPad can be used for a variety of purposes like to feed SQL batchfiles to MySQL as a Tool menu command, to configure Ctags as a tool, utilize Ctags to jump to the definition of any identifier, for editing VBScript code, to run Java programs with an automatically closing MSDOS windows, for document publishing with WS FTP, browsing equivalent pages on the web, using regular expressions for Pascal Compiler, supported with Latex and so on!

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Textpad is helpful for me to solve reporting issues. It is easy to copy paste from an excel spreadsheet into Textpad and edit the necessary content and paste back the required data without any hassle.

  ### 40. Using TextPad for developing websites.

It's free and shows your recently opened docs, it also does some color coding.

**What do you dislike about TextPad?**

There is no built in FTP and it doesn't predict what you are typing to make it quicker to code.

**Recommendations to others considering TextPad:**

It's nice for a basic editor but SubLime Text is more powerful.

**What problems is TextPad solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me to open webpages and make edits and save them in my daily work. The biggest benefit is that it's free.
