## TestRail Reviews
  ### 1. Aggressive Collections and Unresponsive Support — Be Very Careful

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Military | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2025

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

The service itself was overall ok to do the testing tasks.

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

We had an incredibly disappointing experience with TestRail — not only because of their unresponsive customer service, but also due to the aggressive, borderline threatening behavior we encountered when trying to resolve a billing issue.

It all started when we simply needed to change the billing information on our account. This should have been an easy task. Instead, we spent a full month in back-and-forth communication with their support team, who failed to provide us with a correct invoice or resolve the issue.

When our license expired and we still hadn’t received a valid invoice, we decided to switch to another service. That’s when the situation escalated in the worst possible way.

Instead of helping, TestRail began flooding us with emails, and eventually transferred the case to a collection department. At that point, we were essentially threatened. I clearly explained the situation to the collection agents — that we had never received the correct invoice and had tried repeatedly to solve this.

I thought that the case was closed. But it was only the beginning.

In a month I had another message from the TestRail support:

“We truly want to find a resolution here. Please provide these supporting documents so we can properly review the situation and work towards a solution. If these documents cannot be provided, or if the invoice (XX, for $XX,XXX.XX USD) remains unpaid by Month Day, Year, we will, as stated in our previous email, have to proceed with collections, which may negatively affect your company’s credit standing.”

This response is not only tone-deaf, but deeply offensive and inappropriate. We were blackmailed over an invoice that was never properly generated, despite a month of communication efforts from our side.

Final verdict:
	•	❌ Support is slow and unhelpful
	•	❌ Billing is broken and disorganized
	•	❌ Collections are aggressive and unprofessional

I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a test management solution. Companies deserve respectful and competent treatment — especially when paying thousands of dollars.

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps organize and track software testing efforts more efficiently — especially in teams working on complex or large-scale applications.

  ### 2. Want a tool that constantly lets you down and has an incompetent team? You're in for TestRail!

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mykola I. | QA Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2022

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

Has lots of good features that work well like customizations, ability to write/move cases, good structure and reporting
Also, has lots of theoretically good features that just don't work (see more below)

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

Everything else, I don't know what to begin with:
1. The tool can go down ANYTIME (literally): ur processes suggest intensive usage of TestRail on Wednesdays, and it was down twice half the day on Wednesdays last month. Moreover, it keeps going down all too often
2. Incompetent support: their support team works ONLY US hours and, if you work from any other location, you'll have to wait until they start working without a possibility to use TestRail, and we're on the most expensive plan. But even when they do work, you'll sometimes wish they didn't. Just one case can describe everything: we have daily backups (Enterprise feature) and when I started doing some management-related stuff, I noticed that I did several things wrong and decided to fall back to the latest backup (if I only knew what would happen then...). Once I started the restoration process, our instance went down with an uninformative error message. I waited several hours for a response from their support (again, Enterprise plan) and they said they fixed the issue. I logged in and saw that the instance wasn't actually restored to the backup so I tried to restore it once again and again went down the same road. Eventually, I gave up and fixed everything manually (which took a lot of time), told them they didn't resolve my issue and EXPLICITLY asked them not to restore anything for me. What do you think followed? In several weeks they contacted me back saying that they'd successfully restored my backup, I logged in and saw that they broke everything I'd fixed manually. This is just ridiculous. They reverted their changes pretty soon after I'd sent them several more emails but this experience was extremely frustrating. Incidentally, the backup feature that's heavily advertised as a huge Enterprise plan benefit just don't work at all still
3. Incompetent team: if you thought the issue was just with support, you're mistaken. What I noticed then (and their support team confirmed it) and keep noticing now is that when the instance goes down, it means they're doing something with the DB. Think about it for a second: they do something with the DB on a customer's Enterprise clound insatnce on production without any warnings just breaking your workflows for nobody knows how much time. They just probably don't know how to do their job...
4. Small but very annoying issues with the API. We use TestRail for reporting from automated tests and every now and then something fails with an error on their end: fails to return all test cases, fails to create/close a test run, etc. And it doesn't look like they ever try to fix that

So, as a conclusion, we're EXTREMELY disappointed with this tool and I can't recommend it to anyone unless you're in for constant unplanned downtimes and issues. We were recomended to give it a try by many people saying TestRail was the market leader and was a fantastic tool. Maybe it WAS someday but it surely is no longer a leader because any company that values its reputation and customers wouldn't allow the team and their product to perform like that. This is the level of some free-to-play donate-oriented mobile game but not an Enterprise solution with such pricing

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Theoretically, TestRail should've helped us with test management but it's not really useful when it's always down
I feel it could do that and it does that pretty well when it works but, as I mentioned above, it fails too often

**Official Response from Shanu Mandot:**

> Hi Mykola,

I’m sorry to hear about your experience with us. It sounds like you had a frustrating time, and we want to do everything we can to make it right for you.

  ### 3. Perhaps, the worst testing instrument

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olga V. | Quality Assurance Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2021

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

- It's better than Excel.
- Gurock forum where I could be sure that I'm not the only one looking for a new tool.

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

- Support. I am in the other timezone from support, so I write them on my workday, they answer me at night. So, we have a conversation for several days.
- Support never tells the dates to fix their bugs. Never. And all the people who have the issue never know if it will be fixed.
- Gurock doesn't mind if it's users have some bugs. They released a feature that broke screenshots pasting and said that they don't see this problem. Then they saw the issue and got it from many other users. It is the high-priority bug that affected our work as testers. However, they made two releases without bugfix.
- They have critical bugs and don't fix them. That screenshot bug they were fixing for two months. All this time, every team was complaining in their blog.
- They do it again. Now I'm changing the instrument. Because there is another issue with screenshot inserting, if you don't believe it, take a look at their blog https://discuss.gurock.com/t/announcing-testrail-7-1-with-attachment-management-improvements/17670/142.
- They are increasing their price because they did an important and challenging job. Do you think this is sarcasm? No, that's what they wrote in the last letter.
- Reports. You will never know how many test-runs did your tester. You can just list it and count yourself.
- Integration. For monthes we tried to integrate with youtrack. It's impossible partly because of bugs, partly because of the lack of documentation (it tells to place an id but youtrack has plenty ids and none of them is accepted).

**Recommendations to others considering TestRail:**

just don't use it

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To organize test documentation and test process (if it would do it properly)

**Official Response from Shanu Mandot:**

> Thank you so much for your detailed review. We’re sorry you had an average experience using TestRail. We’ll strive to do better.

We do take feedback from our users very seriously and make sure that all feature requests, bug reports, and all other bits of feedback provided through the forums or email support are added to our own internal trackers, and additional votes are used to add weight and priority so that we can get a better feel for changes and product updates that our users would like to see.
For any additional details or queries, please feel free to reach out to us at contact@gurock.com.

  ### 4. Organized release train testing over multiple teams

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

We maintain and track different test cases for release trains over multiple teams and can have the possibility to log in to the tool with single sign on of the company.

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

The UI is very minimalistic and reminds me of some SAP software from the past.

**Recommendations to others considering TestRail:**

Check your team size and company size first before digging into such complex systems.

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're using testrail to organize our tests across multiple teams and domains inside the company.

  ### 5. Once great, now incredibly dumb and full of never ending issues.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2021

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

It's glorious past. It used to have the best UX for test case management and had good support.

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

The releases since march 2021 have continuously broken the app and our trust towards the developers of this app. You should stay clear of the app as it is a sinking ship. Every new release brings more bugs than it can fix. There is obviously no QA done, which is pretty ironic. If you doubt any of this, you should visit their community forum. It's full of users complaining about urgent issues and discussing alternative products.

**Recommendations to others considering TestRail:**

Stay clear.

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TestRail now only causes new problems.

**Official Response from Shanu Mandot:**

> Thank you so much for your review. We’re sorry you had an average experience using TestRail. We’ll strive to do better. If you have a few minutes, we'd love to hear how we can make the overall experience better for our customers. Your review means a lot to us, so if you ever have additional feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email at contact@gurock.com

  ### 6. Very flexible yet have and not agile

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food & Beverages | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2020

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

The flexibility of the tool, a minimalistic yet usable Ui

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

Licensing model, JIra integration, absolutely not agile adopted

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maintaining regression suites in a centralized manner

  ### 7. Not so good

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2018

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

Nothing so called "best". Average product

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

There's a lack of effective keyboard shortcuts, as a developer and QA professional, I feel I am often slowed down as a result.
There's a tricky way of creating test runs within a test plan wherein you have to first create a test plan, edit that test plan, add a test suite to it and rename that test suite to meaningful test run name and then add cases to that rest run. Once the test cases have been added, it then allows to select additional configurations and assign individual cases within a test run to specific testers in the team. This tricky way of doing it often has new team members scratch their heads for first few days until they figure out this process.

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None. None None None None None None

  ### 8. Avoid it at all cost

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2017

**What do you like best about TestRail?**

Simple, no frills interface, easy to implement and get started with a team especially if the team is new to test case inventory management

**What do you dislike about TestRail?**

Performance issues, reporting and API sucks, unplanned downtime, don't know how to run their product on cloud; Just don't use it ever

**Recommendations to others considering TestRail:**

TestRail should not even be on your evaluation list. There are other established players in the market.

**What problems is TestRail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloud BI platform

**Official Response from Chris O'Connell:**

> This review mentions BI Platform. TestRail does not claim to be a BI platform. I feel this review is either someone reviewing a product but mixing up the name or a totally bogus review. I feel it should be removed.
