Ability to scan entire infrastructure just with one tool. Like Databases, network devices like routers, switches, firewalls etc. Best part, tenable can recognize multiple vendors. We also use it for audit and compliance scanning. One stop shop for us. It has everything an organization needed to perform vulnerability management at its best. Support is amazing from tenable. I really like the way they answer my questions, unlike few vendors who just forward their kb documents even after advising them that I have already reviewed the document. Escalation process is easy too, I had to do it only once in 5 years of working with tenable though :) **What do you dislike about Tenable Security Center?** Tenable.io doesn't have all the customizable dashboards options what we get in Tenable.SC. I feel Tenable .sc has more options and well bult when compare to Tenable.io. Recasting is quite easy in tenable.sc when compared to io. Asset grouping has way more options in tenable.sc when compared to tenable.io. Tenable.io needs lots of improvement when compared to sc but I know that the tenable team is currently working on this. Am eagerly waiting for tenable.io to have all those options what tenable.sc has. More live sessions needs to be conducted by Tenable. **Recommendations to others considering Tenable Security Center:** I know tenable is moving towards io but I would recommend stick to tenable.sc until io has all the features what sc has. **What problems is Tenable Security Center solving and how is that benefiting you?** Vulnerability management is our greatest challenge and we are able to achieve our goal and manage vulnerabilities in a proper fashion. Configuration audit and compliance issues are resolved as well as the asset visibility via discovery scans is one of the greatest benefits with tenable in our environment. ### 7. I used to have to create manual reports and statistics from the scans in Nessus. **What do you dislike about Tenable Security Center?** The major downside I have run into it the licensing versus the amount of scans of devices I can perform. When we had Nessus only, we could scan as many networks and devices as possible. With Tenable.sc, it is limited to our license count. If there was a way to have unlimited IP licenses, that would be helpful. **Recommendations to others considering Tenable Security Center:** Utilize the Tenable University, in the community page, to help learn and understand how to use Tenable.sc or any of the other Tenable products. It's free with your Tenable account, so why not take advantage of it. Also make use of the community, as well. There are a lot of people posting in there every day, so if you have an issue, it may be easy to find someone with a similar issue who has solved it. Otherwise, Tenable support is also there to help assist you with any issues that you may be experiencing. **What problems is Tenable Security Center solving and how is that benefiting you?** Tenable is helping us see into our network and show us any vulnerabilities that we have. Then I can take the information from these scans and create reports to pass off tickets to the appropriate groups, who can then correct the issues. From there, I can rescan and see if these vulnerabilities were actually remediated or not. ### 9. With this information, you can align your risk appetite to how you will attain your goals in vulnerability and patch management. The tool provides a wealth of data, but it is up to you to make it useful for your organization. **What do you dislike about Tenable Security Center?** Tenable does require lots of maintenance. As with any tools that has repositories of data, you have to become knowledgeable with what works and what doesnt. Also, be comfortable with its capabilities and those that it lacks. Once you do that and learn how to leverage the data, then its great. But it does require lots of time to keep it in a great shape. **What problems is Tenable Security Center solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problems my organization solves with Tenable are vulnerability, patch and threat management. We have leveraged the information from Tenable reporting and have now aligned our vulnerability and patch management standards to it. This makes sure that we are keeping up with internal SLA metrics. We have also used it to mitigate and manage risk. This helps us prove to our leadership and auditors that we align with our organizational risk appetite and also that we consistently work to improve on our risk landscape. ### 10. You can give people a role and group, but not more. You can't give one person more roles which makes it hard if someone should have unlimited access to only some of the Assets he should be able to view. **Recommendations to others considering Tenable Security Center:** Tenable.sc collects all of your data at one place, the only Problem is the RBAC and that it needs to be isntalled and managed manually because it is on premise. If you are looking for something like that there is nothing better than Tenable.sc **What problems is Tenable Security Center solving and how is that benefiting you?** It collects all of our Vulnerability Data at one place, before we hat our own Solution which collected the data via a script and imported it into a Database. The Tenable.sc solution does exactly this but it has many features with Dashboards and Reports. ### 13. There are way too many areas that need configuring and settings applied which seem redundant. I think it would be helpful to have a bit more consolidation of functionality and more available functionality out of the box or integrated directly into the application. Easy to automate scheduled scans and reporting. Executive summaries are great for showing progress to the less technically inclined while still containing enough relevant detail to make them useful to the technical side as well. **What do you dislike about Tenable Security Center?** Overly verbose or not applicable vulns are displayed fairly often, requiring additional research to see if things are applicable. Can be a bit convoluted when attempting to omit certain plugins or checks. A more simplified scan interface would be nice. Would also like to see an internal database of targets/hosts to run individual adhoc scans without having to setup full scans. Automated reporting can easily fill up a drive if left unattended, be sure to put some sort of cleanup or archiving system in place. **Recommendations to others considering Tenable Security Center:** Creating both an external scanner and an internal one is easy to setup and get rolling, ensure you are taking into consideration the fragility of your systems before scanning though, since we did have some services become unresponsive during and after the scans. This has been my favorite scanning utility.It is also available as a preconfigured VM, an Amazon EC2 appliance, a preconfigured hardware appliance or a cloud service. Tenable has a wide variety of plugins which gives Nessus the ability to interface with basically any networked device. In addition, Nessus can be easily integrated with most major patch management systems, which gives administrators the ability to verify that updates are installing as they should be. Nessus can also be deployed with endpoint agents, which allow vulnerability scanning to occur offline and scan results can be collected after. This is valuable for mobile workforces where assets may not always be connected to the corporate network. The endpoint agents also allow Nessus to perform malware scanning. If a zero-day has been identified within the organization, Nessus can be used to quickly check for other machines that have been infected organization-wide. **What problems is Tenable Security Center solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easy to satisfy compliance requirements, and harden systems. Cheaper in the long run to purchase a license and run internal scans to clear up vulnerabilities while using a third party for those quarterly/annual scans for the compliance side of things. ### 25. From a administrator point of view, connecting new sub nets and devices for scanning is very simple and takes very little administrator effort to maintain. From a user point of view, generating vulnerability reports is very easy and the 'out of the box' reports are very well laid out and could be presented to stakeholders with no modification if required. **What do you dislike about Tenable Security Center?** Tenable support team is difficult to work with at times. Depending on the level required, Nessus professional can be more than sufficient.
