Every time I've had a question they've responded in a good time which is helpful when you're first trying to get your business going. They've helped in many different ways regarding my taxes too. They've helped file taxes in specific states that are difficult. They give the number needed to file in other states that are easy. If my product moved from Amazon, they would let me know and then I could file to submit sales tax in that state. They also let me know that I have monthly taxes to be filed which is very helpful. Recommendations to others considering TaxJar: Sales Tax collection and remittance is a necessity for a B2C business. When selecting a provider I was looking for a company that treated this as a commodity not an added value service. TaxJar met this need, the product is easy to use once you get it set up and the set up is understandable once you come up with a plan. There support is knowledgeable and solid. While the cost is far more reasonable than the other "added value" firms. I don't see why anyone would go somewhere else. this software does the job well, we've never missed a filing or had to deal with innacuracies in the tax tables. I've been with them 3 years. I like how the tool is straightforward to use. It is not complicated or difficult to set up. When I had a question about the tax rate in a certain county, I reached out to TaxJar and they replied quickly with a detailed explanation of the tax rate. The monthly reminders that sales tax and use is due is very helpful and did not require setting up. It is easy to quickly scan to see what taxes are due. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about TaxJar? I wish there was more guidance in the beginning on tax law for new business learning to collect sales tax and use. It could be nice to have some state reporting integration as well so I could transfer information easier. Also there was one issue where the reported sales tax rate did not match with the rate charged. Also, for a custom PHP website it reports out to the third cent which looks bulky. Charging sales tax can be so confusing, so I am glad to have a tool that keeps up to date calculations by county so I do not have to worry about correctly charging. The only downsides that we've encountered is not being able to enroll in the Streamlined Sales Tax (SST) or Simplified Sellers Use Tax (SSUT) programs, which aren't supported by TaxJar. On the calculation side, we use their Magento integration for making sure we're using the most updated tax rates in all of the relevant states and local jurisdictions where we have nexus. This saves us time by not having to continually audit and update tax rates, which are frequently changing. Collecting tax is made easy since we have confidence in the rates. Reporting is accurate and easy to understand. Lastly, we love their autofile service. It saves us so much time and bandwidth by completely allowing us to outsource the tedium of filing taxes in all of the different states and local jurisdictions, which all have different filing frequencies. TaxJar is a great way to consolidate and navigate the complex work of State Sales Tax in relation to being an online retailer. If you are a small business or a one-man-band, this is a good way to avoid hiring a full time employee to navigate the complexities of filing with individual states. I wish that TaxJar could handle registration and correspondance with the state on my behalf so that I really did not have to worry about state sales tax at all. I feel a bit like if I set up my autofilings incorrectly, they could auto file incorrectly for months or years before I notice. TaxJar certainly saves time but I am not confident that it is perfect. I still worry that some day a state will come after me for unpaid taxes and TaxJar will be nowhere to be found or will claim it is not their responsibility at all. There are multiple documents and help articles that I frequently access to clarify questions and the uncertain pieces of tax law in the many states we work in. These have become indispensable to me! As a non-profit, it was disappointing to find out there are no discounts or opportunities for impact organizations to take advantage of Taxjar's services and for them to participate in meaningful work. While the support has been very helpful, I think there are more ways that TaxJar could give back to communities they work in by supporting organizations in this way. Launching a for-profit branch proposed some problems for our team who was unfamiliar with some aspects. Tax Jar and their incredible documentation clarified so much. What do you dislike about TaxJar? I consider TaxJar a great partner to solve a horrible problem. Each State requires registration, each State has a different website, process, tax laws, exemptions, ect.... I don't dislike TaxJar at ALL. I dislike there being sooo much bureaucracy for a small internet business. I wish there was a simpler business environment. I do wish TaxJar had an automated solution for filing for refunds. This is NOT easy, either at the state level or even getting credits applied via TaxJar. Our type of business has about 20% return rate, so this is a big deal for us. Keeps all my sales tax stuff organized and keeps me in compliance with all states. The scaling to higher plans as you grow is also great so you aren't stuck in the higher plans if your sales drop off. I use it with my Amazon business and I really could not live without it.
