# Best Credit and Collections Software - Page 11

*By [Nathan Calabrese](https://research.g2.com/insights/author/nathan-calabrese)*

Businesses use credit and collections software to ensure customers pay for the products and services delivered by the company. By recovering the amounts due on time, companies can rely on a consistent influx of money to finance their operations. This type of software is used by accounting teams to identify which invoices are overdue, match invoices and payments, reduce processing errors, and manage collection issues such as bad debt (amounts owed by customers that are unlikely to be paid). Accountants also use credit and collections software to manage customer credits to mitigate the risk of not getting paid. This type of software can also be used by collection agencies that recover outstanding payments on behalf of their customers.

Credit and collections software can be delivered as a standalone product or as part of a financial management suite. Standalone credit and collections tools need to integrate with [accounting software](https://www.g2.com/categories/accounting) and [ERP systems](https://www.g2.com/categories/erp-systems) or with related point solutions such as [AR automation software](https://www.g2.com/categories/ar-automation).

To qualify for inclusion in the Credit and Collections category, a product must:

- Allow users to define customer credit limits and adjust them based on payments history or type of customer
- Match invoice information such as the amount or the due date with payments
- Identify upcoming payments due and notify customers by email, phone, or mail
- Manage overdue payments and apply penalties or overcharges for late payments
- Monitor payments history and identify customers that are more likely to pay late
- Analyze discrepancies between invoices and payments and determine what caused them

#### What are the benefits of using credit and collections management software?

Credit and collections software solves one of finance's most persistent operational problems: the gap between invoicing and actually getting paid. The core benefits break down across four dimensions.

First, it eliminates the manual work of tracking outstanding invoices—automated dunning sequences, payment reminders, and escalation workflows replace spreadsheets and ad-hoc follow-ups, freeing AR staff to focus on high-value disputes rather than routine outreach.

Second, it gives finance teams real-time visibility into cash flow: aging reports, days sales outstanding (DSO) tracking, and payment likelihood scoring turn collections from reactive to strategic.

Third, it reduces risk by integrating credit intelligence—tools that flag high-risk accounts before credit is extended or surface early warning signals for customers experiencing payment stress.

Finally, it improves customer relationships by professionalizing the collections process: automated, personalized communication that reflects the right tone at each stage of an account's aging is better for relationships than inconsistent manual outreach. The result is faster cash conversion, lower DSO, and a finance team that operates with significantly more confidence and control.

#### Which is the best credit and collections software for finance teams?

Reducing DSO without adding headcount is exactly the problem credit and collections automation is built to solve.
