I love that TalkingPoints automatically translates what's written into the language the parents/guardians indicated. Makes communicating SO much easier! And parents/guardians ACTUALLY reply back! I don't like that there is a 600 character limit. When I'm writing to parents about a delicate situation, I need to know that the entire message is going to go through. I have not tried this in the classroom yet, but I piloted it by myself. I was able to send myself a text message quickly in English and it automatically translated it to Spanish. The initial setup might take a bit of time, but I will be able to find a way to streamline it with a spreadsheet with my students' families' contact information. It was very easy to use for both myself and the parents I was communicating with on a weekly basis. I teach in a school with a high population of ESL students. One consistent challenge is communicating with parents in a way that is accessible to them. It's often difficult to communicate without a translator. This app texts parents directly and allows them to respond in their native language which is then translated. There is an option to go through and change this but it may be difficult with entire rosters. If I hadn't caught this issue, it would've made communication more difficult. I can communicate with parents in their own languages without the tedious work of translating my messages. I can communicate with parents in real-time.
