"Effortless Data Visualization, High Licensing Costs"

4/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

I like how easy it is to create interactive dashboards and visualizations from large datasets with Tableau. The drag and drop interface makes it simple to explore data without writing complex queries all the time. I also appreciate the variety of charting and dashboard options, which help preserve insights clearly for both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Features like interactive dashboards, live data connection, calculated fields, and dashboard sharing enhance data exploration, real-time analytics, and facilitate collaboration and reporting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

Performance can sometimes slow down with the very large datasets or complex dashboards. I've also found that managing calculated fields, parameters, and dashboard dependencies can become difficult in large reporting projects. Additionally, licensing costs are very high for broader enterprise usage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Tableau for dashboard creation, reducing manual reporting effort, and analyzing large datasets through visualizations. It helps in sales, finance, and KPI tracking, making data easier to communicate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"VizQL-Powered, Real-Time Data Exploration with Tableau"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

What makes Tableau stand out for me—and what I like most about it—is its Visual Query Language (VizQL) engine. Rather than forcing you to build static charts from pre-calculated tables, VizQL turns your drag-and-drop actions into database queries in real time. That shift fundamentally changes how you interact with data and explore it as you go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

The cost is a concern, and the data preparation capabilities feel limited. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

At its core, Tableau exists because raw data is difficult for the human brain to digest, while visual patterns can be recognized almost instantly.

Before modern business intelligence tools really took off, organizations dealt with two major operational headaches: the “SQL Bottleneck” (where every report required a data engineer to write custom queries) and “Spreadsheet Chaos” (where teams made important decisions using static, disconnected, and often outdated Excel files).

Tableau is built to address those structural problems, and it changes how organizations—and analysts—work on a day-to-day basis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Tableau Streamlines Reporting with Powerful, Interactive Dashboards"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

As a Technical Project Manager, Tableau has been extremely helpful in my day-to-day work. It cuts down a lot of manual effort, and its built-in features save time that would otherwise go into coding and creating reports from scratch. What I appreciate most is how it enables both business leaders and technical teams to interpret the same data through clear, interactive dashboards, which supports faster decision-making.

Tableau makes it straightforward to turn complex data into meaningful visual reports with its simple drag-and-drop interface. Even team members with limited technical knowledge can follow the dashboards and understand the insights. It also connects smoothly with a wide range of data sources, including Snowflake, Salesforce, cloud platforms, databases, and Excel files, which helps us maintain a single source of truth for project reporting.

In one of my e-commerce projects, we use Tableau with Snowflake to track sales performance, customer orders, inventory levels, and delivery metrics. Rather than collecting data manually from multiple systems, Tableau pulls the data automatically and presents it in real-time dashboards. This allows stakeholders to quickly spot sales trends, monitor KPIs, and respond when issues come up.

The visualization options—such as charts, graphs, and trend analysis—make it easier to identify patterns and risks early. Tableau also supports secure sharing, automated report scheduling, and collaboration features, which strengthens communication across teams. Overall, Tableau helps our organization make data-driven decisions more quickly and manage projects more effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

As a Technical Project Manager, I’ve found Tableau to be a valuable tool, but there are a few areas where it could improve. The biggest challenge for new users is the learning curve. Creating basic dashboards is straightforward, but when team members need to work with advanced calculations, parameters, data blending, or more complex visualizations, they often require additional training. On my team, business users were able to build simple reports quickly, but they struggled when they needed dashboards that combined multiple data sources and relied on custom calculations.

Licensing cost is another concern. Tableau offers powerful analytics capabilities, but pricing can become expensive as more users across different departments need access. In larger organizations, this can noticeably increase the overall reporting budget.

I’ve also run into performance issues on some projects. For instance, in an e-commerce project where Tableau was connected to Snowflake along with several live data sources, certain dashboards took longer than expected to load when displaying large volumes of sales and customer data. This occasionally impacted stakeholder meetings where quick access to information was important.

Dashboard maintenance can be time-consuming as well. When database tables, field names, or business requirements change, reports typically need updates and testing before they can be shared again. Managing multiple dashboard versions and tracking changes across team members isn’t always straightforward, especially when several developers are working on the same reporting project.

Overall, Tableau is a strong analytics platform with excellent visualization capabilities, but improvements in pricing, performance with large datasets, and collaboration features would make it even better for project teams like ours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

In my e-commerce project, there are multiple data sources. Tableau helped me create a consolidated dashboard (data visualization) for all reports with accurate data, which significantly reduced my manual effort.

The dashboards and reports are real-time and optimized with key performance indicators (KPIs). Users can drill down into reports to analyze trends, risks, bottlenecks, and performance issues. This helps stakeholders make faster and more informed decisions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Tableau Makes Real-Time Dashboards Easy With Powerful Analysis Flexibility"

5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

Recently, I learned about Tableau and its features. Before, writing SQL queries took an extensive amount of time. Now, with a live connection to Salesforce and Excel, it’s much easier to build dashboards that update with real-time data.

Tableau’s calculated fields and level of detail features provide a lot of flexibility for analysis, and they also reduce the need to rely on pre-processed data from external sources.

For this organization, Tableau is helping make the platform more data-driven, especially for Excel data. Their decision and ROI feel clear because it enables broad insights and helps Tableau deliver consistently across the team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

Tableau’s UI/UX can feel overwhelming for a new user, mainly because there are so many options and configuration settings to navigate. The onboarding support within the platform also sometimes feels limited, which can make the initial learning curve steeper than it needs to be.

Overall performance is strong for the basic features, but it can degrade when using live connections to slower databases.

Ask Data–type features seem intelligently designed in theory, but in practice they feel somewhat lacking and immature. It often misinterprets natural-language queries, which ends up making the work more complicated than necessary.

Customer support is underwhelming as well, with slow ticket resolution times. It also leans heavily on community forums and predefined solutions, which can feel insufficient when you’re stuck in a specific situation that doesn’t fit the standard answers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

It solves the fundamental problem of having data that is only viewed in spreadsheets, while the underlying databases are typically accessed and interpreted only by technical users. Tableau generates reports from this spreadsheet, and we can update them each round after verifying that the spreadsheet contains the latest data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Tableau Turns Massive Data into Actionable Dashboards Fast"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

Tableau is great for taking massive data into a more digestible, actionable dashboard to actually use for daily decision making. I appreciate that I can connect different data sets really fast, build a vis withdrag anddrop, drill down into trends, and don’t need hours of report creation. It’s easy to use the UI and send dashboard out to the people that need to know without a struggle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

There is a bit of a learning curve for certain of the power features, especially around some complicated calculations or dashboard optimization to help the overall speed for huge dashboards. As you add users, licensing costs really add up, and I do wish a couple of customization things were easier to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

Tableau really cut the time needed to aggregate the data for analysis and reporting. Rather than pull the data together in separate disparate systems manually, I am able to build interactive dashboards and see what the pulse of my business is in real time. Tableau accelerated our ability to monitor what is important and make decisions rapidly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Quick and Practical, Evolve every day. Their improvements must be better communicated."

4.5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

I greatly appreciate that Tableau is fast and practical. I find it easy to use and value its ability to enable self-discovery. It is a scalable platform and I think it's a great tool overall. I love that its graphical interface is simple for both experts and amateurs, and I value its flexibility, as I can create both basic and advanced visualizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

Basically, I feel that many of the new improvements are scattered. For example, if I require agents, I must have Tableau Next, but in Tableau Next I don't have the same freedom and ease of connection as in Tableau Classic (for example, if I want to connect to an MS SQL Server that is not on AWS, GCP, or Azure). Another thing that doesn't work very well is that the improvements announced on the New Features page lack documentation directly on this page. So many of these improvements go unnoticed and are difficult to understand. Therefore, all the great work that Tableau does in improving the product often gets lost due to lack of explanation. This also leads to another negative aspect, which is that since the improvements are not explained, Tableau can also appear slow in implementing improvements when it is not. What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

Tableau helps me visualize information to solve business questions and make decisions. However, the new improvements can be difficult to understand due to the lack of adequate explanation, which causes some improvements to go unnoticed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Visualization are easy to make, using calculated field and LOD operations make sure that we generate every granular details of the data. For beginers also, it is easy drag and drop pills which makes it user friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

Sometimes we struggle in connecting with very large database and it is slow compared to other BI tools in industry when you use it with very large datasets, mainly when you have lot of textual information, thematic analysis etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

Majorly, all financial reporting are now moving to Tableau, earlier excel was most powerful tool, but with coming of drag of drop feature in BI tools this was emerged as USP of these tools.

Within 2 clicks you can show trend analysis to leadership and storytelling feature in Tableau helps us to engage leaders by showcasing them dynamic dashboards. Onboarding leaders to reporting is also easy, you just need to share the links and give right access. Also, tableau is easy to integrate with number of ETL tools, so data ingesiton is also easy. Pricing is high compared to other BI tools, but as enterprise want data security they are ready to pay. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Tableau Makes Data Exploration Fast and Intuitive"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

As a data analyst, what I love most about Tableau is how it completely changed my daily routine—from wrestling with code to actually exploring and playing with data.

Why I use it every day: The drag-and-drop canvas saves me hours every week because I can pull a column onto the screen and see a chart instantly, without writing any code. The Hyper engine lets me throw millions of rows of messy data at it, and it still doesn’t freeze or crash my computer. With instant maps, if I have a column of ZIP codes or cities, Tableau maps them automatically without me having to figure out GPS coordinates myself. And the connections are easy: I can plug it straight into our SQL databases, cloud storage, or even a basic Excel sheet in just a couple of clicks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

The price tag is incredibly expensive, especially for smaller teams or individual licenses. The formatting also feels rigid—customizing even simple layouts or moving text boxes can feel like fighting the software. There’s no real help with data cleaning either; it struggles with messy data, so you usually have to prep everything beforehand in Excel or SQL. On top of that, the learning curve is steep, and writing custom “LOD” calculations can feel like learning an entirely new language. Performance can slump as well: if you don’t build dashboards just right, large files will lag and end up frustrating your users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

Tableau solves the massive problem of data-silo isolation and slow, overly technical report generation by quickly turning messy, multi-source company data into clear visual insights, without requiring SQL or Python. For me, that means I’m no longer stuck in a constant backlog waiting on IT teams for basic metrics, and I save hours of manual data wrangling each week. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy-to-Use, Powerful Visualizations for Fast Business Insights"

5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

What I like most about Tableau is its easy-to-use interface and powerful data visualization capabilities. It allows me to create interactive dashboards, analyze large datasets quickly, and gain meaningful insights without extensive coding. Its wide range of data connectors, drag-and-drop functionality, and real-time reporting make it an excellent tool for business intelligence and decision-making. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

Tableau is a powerful BI tool, but it has a few drawbacks. The licensing cost can be high for individuals and small businesses. Some advanced features have a steep learning curve for beginners, and creating complex dashboards may require strong knowledge of data modeling and calculations. Large datasets can sometimes affect performance, and collaboration features often require Tableau Server or Cloud, which adds additional cost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

Tableau helps us solve the challenge of turning large amounts of raw data into meaningful insights. It replaces manual reporting with interactive dashboards, making it easier to track KPIs, identify trends, and make faster, data-driven decisions. This has improved reporting efficiency, reduced analysis time, and enabled better collaboration across teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive, Visually Engaging Dashboards with Powerful Customization"

5/5

What do you like best about Tableau?

What I like most about Tableau is how intuitive and visually engaging it is. Even with limited use, I found it relatively easy to create clear and interactive dashboards. The drag-and-drop interface makes it accessible for users without a strong technical background, and the ability to quickly turn data into meaningful visual insights is impressive. It also offers a wide range of customisation options, which seems powerful for deeper analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Tableau?

One downside I have noticed is that while Tableau is easy to get started with, some of the more advanced features can feel complex and take time to learn. Additionally, performance can slow down when working with larger datasets, and certain customisations aren’t always as straightforward as expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Tableau solving and how is that benefiting you?

In terms of problem solving, Tableau helps solve the challenge of making sense of large or complex datasets by turning them into clear, visual insights. Instead of working through raw data in spreadsheets, it allows users to quickly identify trends, patterns, and key metrics through interactive dashboards. For me, this makes it easier to understand data at a glance and supports more informed decision-making, even without deep technical expertise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
