I love using Tableau for building interactive dashboards and enabling ad-hoc data exploration. Tableau Prep Builder is a game-changer for me, saving countless hours by eliminating the need for writing complex Python or SQL scripts for data cleaning. Its visual, flow-based interface makes it easy to pivot, aggregate, and join data, handle nulls and outliers, and apply regex to messy text fields. I also appreciate how Tableau allows me to standardize dates, deduplicate data based on email and phone, and aggregate lifetime value per customer, which outputs a clean extract ready for dashboards. The flexibility of Tableau really helps us with complex tasks like geospatial analysis and custom visualizations, things that other tools couldn't handle as gracefully. If your source data is dirty, incomplete or poorly modeled, Tableau will just visualize that garbage beautifully. The thing I dislike most is the laggy UI. When I run it locally, it slows down my entire system, even when the amount of data isn’t that large. That makes me wonder whether Power BI is better in that regard. From a price standpoint, it also feels expensive because a lot of the functionality isn’t being used, but we still have to pay for it. This reduces more than 70% of our work because we don’t need to ingest the same data again and again.
