Now that we are upgrading to a newer version, it is nice to see how much more functionality the new version offers compared to the existing version. We use Solidworks here and in terms of the two applications working together on initial setup of a new system, you really just install both clients are are off to the races. We also attempted an upgrade from 2017 to Summer 2024 on our own, but due to previous lack of resources on our part, we are able to use Synergis themselves to bridge the gap in knowledge to upgrade successfully without issue. **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** From what I hear from the engineers using Adept it can be slow at times. The assortment of file types that Adept manages gives a company the opportunity to protect files beyond just engineering drawings. **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** It is starting to get a bit too complex so it is not as user friendly as it has been in the past. **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** Electronic signatures for drawing approvals. You always can find out who has a file for approval and at what step in the approvals a file exists. Prior to using Adept for this procedure you had to track down a paper drawing, it wasted quite a bit of time running around to find the right person. Outside of the engineering department, instead of making paper copies of drawings and files for review by other departments and then running them around from one department to another, we are using an internal transmittal to convey information about the files and the actual files from one department to another. Anyone involved in the process can always tell where it is and who should be working on it. This is saving time and money. **Official Response from Martha K. This again has freed document control from administrative work so they can focus on their core responsibilities. I've chatted with thousands of vendors/sales reps, worked with hundreds of consultants, administered dozens of enterprise software platforms (and worked closely with their support desks), and the gang at Synergis is my favorite by far. I always—seriously, always—feel like a priority! **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** As with all enterprise software applications, we've run into a few glitches during major upgrades. And while this is to be expected, we've experienced elongated upgrade engagements on more than one occasion. That said, Synergis does not hesitate to "rally the troops" and dig in to solve a problem. We were even assigned "customer advocates" on the last install. They were instrumental in helping us reach a favorable outcome. **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** To say that the Adept drawing management system is a quantum leap from multi-tiered network folders, preposterously complex file names, and dizzying AD security schemes would be an understatement. We now record everything that happens to our drawings. And for several reasons--not the least is the amount of security--you could have one person come in and do a lot of damage to the system by just making small changes here and there. Before, we used to overwrite drawings but now, we record everything. Adept brings in some standardization of how we do things and allows us to access the latest drawings readily I also use the audit trail all the time. It tells you if somebody checked out something. And if you don't know their initials, you can go to the audit trail and see them there. In training, I tell engineers when they look for the drawing to look at the audit trail. That way, they can see if somebody copied that drawing out for another project or effort at the same site, noting we have several hundred different sites just in the Texas divisions alone. **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** The product is stable, but if there’s anything I dislike, it’s the speed of uploads. We have some files or imagery over 200MB. I’d say that the speed is acceptable now that we’re using the latest 2019 release. But before this version, some files were so big I'd have to wait 25 minutes and make sure I wasn't using too many other resources on the computer. I was ecstatic when I saw how fast 2019 uploads drawings. It'd be nice if they had a timeout feature on the Adept Explorer platform. Because we have a lot of people and somebody says they need a license. We used to have email the IT guys to go into Designer and clear that out, which was a big deal. But from what I understand, we don't have to go into that to clear the licenses out in the latest version. **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** I like the security. Only two people have the admin rights to delete drawings. It's almost impossible for somebody to hack into the system. Another benefit is Adept records everything saved to drawings in the system and who did it, along with the ability to go back and fix errors. In the event of an issue, we are now able to go back in and look and say, “Well, somebody modified the drawing. How did that get there?” I love it because there's accountability. The auto naming process in Adept is priceless. We took human error out of our naming process. Plus, it's easier to track and search projects by having them all in an electronic database. **Official Response from Martha K. After having a less than optimal experience with a previous Document Management / EPDM application, where we were losing an average of one man-hour per user per day, Synergis came to the rescue, a forecasted three week data migration, application installation, and training actually took less than a week, with users actively on the application in just two hours. It's ease of use, coupled with a straightforward UI, makes this application quite effortless to use and manage. Adept has basically been bullet-proof for us in the 10+ years it's been in use. Their customer support has always been first-class, and their documentation is far superior to that of their competition. **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** No downsides whatsoever in adopting this application for R&D and Production utilization. **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ease of use and an efficient file "check-in and check -out" system have enabled our design teams to focus on their jobs, which is product development, NOT wasting time attempting to navigate through a maze of application infrastructure that renders no value-add. Adept has been at our location for 20 + years since it was implemenent before I arrive. The database has suited our needs and is customizable as our needs change. The new 11.2 Cleint works well. Searches are quick. Very few hang ups, on scrolling massive results. Thumbnails looks much better from previous versions, still need improvement for become a helpful Tab on the Data Card. Implementation was easy. Customer support is fanastic and very knowledgeable. Intergration with AutoDesk works seemlessly. **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** The new viewer is a cumbersome wreck. Opens slowly. Too many steps to print. Redundant, having to use the Publish PDF convert a Pdf file to another PDF, and then have to open it in another software to print it. No Monochrome option. Publishes all layers, even the hidden ones. Special Fonts like: .shx files must be loaded on each cleints' machine, instead of just pointing the Viewer to a central location. Installation not seemless, took multiple attempts to complete the install. In some instances users had to up grade thier machine to get the software installed. No Direct Print is the biggest issue. Our maintenance team frustated that it takes too long to view and print copies of much needed documents. **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** Hopefully Synergis will fix thw 11.2 Viewer with the Release of 11.3 **Official Response from Martha K. Report generation is not intuitive and somewhat difficult. Not being able to link certain documents together so that they are always carried through a workflow together. There is always a possibility to carry one document through a workflow separately from it's counterparts. (ex. SolidWorks parts and drawings). Not allowing a file to be move between libraries while in process. There's no error system built in to let you know when a file in an assembly has yet to be released, or to prevent you from releasing an assembly with a new unreleased subcomponent. For most systems, it is best to have all components released prior to assmebly release. **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to visually see where bottlenecks are in our drawing release process. Adept allows us to review and track accountability. Adept allows us to keep revision/version history of drawings and models. This helps us see more in depth of past changes if needed. The Synergis team came in and did an outstanding job of listening to us and understanding our wants and needs in order to successfully transfer all our facilities and engineering data into Adept. I worked closely with the programing team (Charlie Smith and his group) during the migration to add the best data fields to Adept, which would build up the database for future projects, while still overlaying with the existing data. As much as possible I wanted to recreate the same user interface in Adept as was in old system. Afterall, it was used for 20+ years. I didn’t want to overwhelm the folks who’d been working in the old system; and I wanted to make the transition to Adept smooth and comfortable. I know that change can be hard on folks. So it was important to keep the look and feel familiar to have a really successful outcome. Once Charlie’s team transferred all the data to our network, the real fun began. I worked with a great (and very patient), Jeffery Newton, a Synergis Applications Consultant. Together, we built out the system as we had planned in the beginning of the project. We created data cards, tables, databases, proper formats, lists, etc.—everything to give Adept a solid backbone-- so it would work well into the future and give folks a great user experience. The thing is, the more you work in Adept, the more powerful it is. It’s an ongoing process. The Helpdesk Team at Synergis is amazing. Josh Diehl, Jonathan Mullins, Dean Scavetta, Julian Newman and John Soto all are outstanding. They always resolved an issue for me within 2/3 of an hour max. If they couldn’t resolve an issue and/or they needed more time to research the issue, they would always follow up in a timely manner. With the Support Team, it's never about a time limit, like most places where you get 15-minute blocks. If an issue takes two minutes or 2 hours, they always resolve the issue. Another great thing about Support is having Zoom meetings, where I can show them the exact issue and/or command that isn’t working or how I missed a step in the process. Overall, I think the Helpdesk team can tackle any issue and/or resolve any issue I bring to them to improve or streamline our processes. We are alway looking to improve the system... adding more data cards and working with Charlie's team to help w/ other searches and fields that the folks have asked for. Overall the system is working very well and the data is in a user friendly format to understand the searches, information needed and how it all comes together....Lots of new folks like the document control system....search and print the latest in minutes. Overall again, I think the Helpdesk team can tackle any issue and/or resolve any issue I bring to them to improve or streamline our processes. they never stop helping and keeping the system up and running. **What do you dislike about Synergis Adept?** I can’t think of anything at this time. It seems they are a step ahead, as things change in the Auto CAD environment, they are working the issue and resolving them for the next release..The new viewer was the big one.... **What problems is Synergis Adept solving and how is that benefiting you?** Adept has improved our efficiency/processes by 200%. We experienced better and overall faster screen viewing, workflows, and viewing files without the need for additional 3rd party viewing software. It's frustrating trying to bring on new users because they become frustrated and irritated at the slowness and find work arounds to not use Adept.
