There are still plenty of apps and projects that use Objective-C, and developers are faced with the prospect of either starting again from scratch or attempting to convert them to Swift. Swiftify for Xcode automates the conversion process, handling the task of replacing the syntax while letting you focus on the other aspects of project migration. As the name suggests, the service can be accessed directly from Xcode's Editor menu. You can convert a code selection or a whole file. You can also paste Objective-C as Swift. It's also possible to convert files directly from Finder without booting up Xcode. Select the files and start the conversion from the context menu. Finally, the Advanced Project Converter app included in Swiftify for Xcode is designed to help you manage an entire project. It lets you explore the project in a dedicated UI and select files to be converted. Processed files are automatically added to the project. ## Swiftify Reviews ### 1. In this tool, you can provide the entire objective c project, converting it to swift. This tool is not converting exact word to word code, but this is helpful for the initial level. The software is beneficial to those who are not familiar with objective c. This tool saves a lot time of a developer **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** This tool has a limited free trial. Later you have to purchase swiftify key. Sometimes this tool is not converting exact code from Objective c to Swift; after using this, you have to check your code once. In the free version you can't convert entire file at a time **What problems is Swiftify solving and how is that benefiting you?** As an iOS developer, I have used this tool a lot. When I started iOS development, we used to use objective c as a language of iOS. Later we have to convert our project to swift then I used this tool. ### 2. I was working with a friend on his old app, and he wanted me to help him out by converting it to swift. I'm fairly new to swift, but this app made it so much easier to do. Of course you still have to put it quite some work, but it gets about 90% of the conversion correct. I love how the team is super responsive to any issues encountered, and how it is constantly being developed and made great. **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** Well of course there is no conversion tool that's perfect, but this app will gets you almost all the way there. **What problems is Swiftify solving and how is that benefiting you?** Instead of starting an app from scratch with swift, I can use this and it will save me SO MUCH time. I was surprised by how accurate the conversions are. It even works with Objc flags like NS_ASSUME_NONNULL_BEGIN. I was skeptical at first, but the conversion handled 90% of the work. The replace 10% of developer work was replacing ObjC enums with equivalent Swift enums. **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** There were certain cases where Swiftify would try to be overly clever with "if let" to unwrap variables safely. However, it isn't a deal-breaker and only happens once in a while. **Recommendations to others considering Swiftify:** Honestly, give it a try. Pay $5 on an Objective-C file and find out the quality you'll be receiving from using Swiftify. That's what we did. **What problems is Swiftify solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are trying to solve slow build times from ObjC to Swift interoperability. With the amount of Swift code we have, there's a huge "AppName-Swift.h" file generated each time. ### 4. The tool is so simple and fast and accurate for the most part. Overall, after migrating 70000+ lines of code, I had to spend only 6-7 days going through all the code and reviewing the changes. **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** Some resulting code is inefficient and needs some optimization (as expected). I've had one issue where a chunk of code had multiple compiler warnings after migrating but they were easily resolved. XCode is really helpful when it comes to detecting those errors and automatically suggesting fixes. **Recommendations to others considering Swiftify:** Go over some of the most common chunks of code (util methods/classes) and optimize those as there might be a few performance bottlenecks in the migrated code. **What problems is Swiftify solving and how is that benefiting you?** Minor problems here and there with compilation errors (easily fixed) but definitely worth it. The amount of time saved by having Swiftify migrate the majority of the code is heaven-sent. ### 13. Swiftify helped me to convert code in those cases which saved me a lot of time. The Xcode plugin makes things even easier. **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** Lately is became mandatory to create an account in order to convert code. This added some friction when using the service, especially for new users if you want to give the tool a quick try before signing-up. **Recommendations to others considering Swiftify:** Bear in mind converted code might not always be perfect but, the main goal is to understand the logic behind an objective-c file/piece of code. It's possible to integrate this methodology into a workflow, so upgrading is performed alongside bug fixing and feature development. **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** It would be nice to be able to get the remaining 10%, though 90% conversion is vastly better than a completely manual workflow. The Swift code outputted works and requires little changes. **What do you dislike about Swiftify?** The trial period only allows a small amount of code. This makes it hard to evaluate how well the overall product is because I want to see the result of an entire file or unit of code (function, class, etc). **What problems is Swiftify solving and how is that benefiting you?** Converting old legacy code or snippets.
