Lightweight, easy-to-use, powerful, feature-filled, cost. It is a great HTML editor, javascript editor, There is a lot of power in this program for a Mac user who needs a really solid, feature-filled text editor that doesn't cost anything. The program boasts built in features that exceed that capabilities of most, like Syntax Highlighting, Syntax Styles and autocomplete. You have a specialized form of "undo", blockediting, live Web Preview for HTML, split windows, multiple windows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about SubEthaEdit? There is literally no downside to this program. It's not overly complicated but is extremely powerful. It is a weird name but the tribute to Douglas Adams is worth it. For some purposes an iOs and iCloud aspect would be good, but not a deal breaker. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is SubEthaEdit solving and how is that benefiting you? I constantly need a text editor for different tasks. With SubEthaEdit, I don't have to worry about constant paid updates. Through AppleScript and Javascript for Automation, it fits nicely in my workflow as an HTML editor, Javascript editor, and note taker. Besides a powerful search and replace, SubEthaEdit has an underlying regular expression engine, Oniguruma. The REGEX is very strong and a great appeal to those who do a lot of pattern matching find and replace, like I do. Also offered is a command like tool and full applescript. All this is available in a very clean and well-organized Macintosh interface style. SubEthaEdit is one of the robust and easy-to-use coding app that I've used. The interactive way of collaborating the codes along with your buddies makes it even dynamic. I enjoy how syntax highlighting uses colour. It was designed and continues to be designed with the MacOSX user in mind. As a result, all shortcuts seem entirely natural and incorporate other MacOSX features. I typically update network configurations and occasionally write a python or bash script. One of the things that I dislike and is also apparent is that it's available only for macOS. There should be a couple of other language choices or lack thereof. It was created and still is with MacOSX user integration first and as such all shortcuts feel completely natural and integrate other MacOSX tools, it's the equivalent of Notepad++ in Windows with a lot of addons and very extensible by custom scripts with the plus that files can be edited and updated as a team. Editing as a team is really cool and it works great but I have used it with my coworkers a big total of 3 times across 5+ years, it is a really nice and interesting feature but not very practical to be honest, as I mentioned before the other big upside is that it is created with MaxOSX users in mind but it also means that isn't cross-platform and a cross-platform version would not really work as it is tightly integrated with the OS. It is native for MacOSX and blends in very well with the theme of MacOSX, I'm a big fan of dark mode and the theme matches really well with the OS. I like the colors used in syntax highlighting. I tend to work a lot with HTML, XML, json and python files and it is easy for my eyes, the color scheme allows me to focus especially when using Blockedit(editing several line at the same time) and is very easy to do a live preview of HTML. First got it for the name, as a The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan just needed to try it, but I keep it for the regexp search, python support, and overall good experience when dealing with files. I mostly edit network configs and do a python or bash script here and there when needed and the jokes about using the Sub-Etha communication network with my friends will never get old. It can be used in a collaborative way or not, has really good syntax highlighting for tasks like regular expressions. It's not cloud-integrated so if I want to keep my files on my computer and avoid mistakenly editing them on notes I don't have to worry about being synced and overwritten by mistake.
