I love the click and drag capabilities of Studio compared to any other DAW I have ever used. The work flow is just simply amazing. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** I realized a very serious challenge when I started using the software on Desktop Computers. There was a time that power was suddenly interrupted which made the computer abruptly shut off. By the time I switched it on and loaded my Project, Studio One says the file is corrupt, so I couldn't load the project again and it has happened consistently. So I'm now careful to use the UPS and backup my project regularly. That has been my major challenge with Studio One. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a Music Producer, Studio One has helped me in creating amazing music for my clients. The work flow is great and I'm glad I'm gracually getting International recognition for my Job ### 2. The multi-tool that was first seen in Pro Tools feels even more intuitive in S1. The user interface is clean and precise with many options to suit different workflows. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** There are several things that can feel a bit like a gimmick. The Scratch Pad sounds like a good idea but unless you have a large monitor this becomes awkward to use and if you open a few by accident, closing them is laborious and disrupts your workflow. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use S1 to make dance music. I find the MIDI very accurate and the audio editing functions are so easy and quick. The workflow is fast and I can set my channels up in various different ways to suit my needs on projects. ### 3. The advantage PreSonus gives its users has to be the fact that they care about the user experience. This shows not only through their continual updates, but also through their instructional and helpful videos put out on various platforms. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** The only thing I would improve is that they would list similar standards for new users on bit rates and other things. For instance, maybe implement a tool tip that notifies users that having a specific bit rate is what is used on various platforms the most. This is only something that might be helpful for those who don't know that much about mastering/mixing, or are new to using audio software. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** They have everything I need and keep updating with stuff I didn't even know I needed. The best thing is how fluid creation and edits are, even swapping between mixes and plugins. ### 4. Luckily, to minimize this aspect, there is a monthly subscription plan that allows you to have the most complete version of STUDIO ONE for a reasonable monthly amount. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** I have used several DAWs and finally, I think I have found the definitive one, at least to this day. It is easy to use without losing professionalism. Highly recommended.! **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** As an amateur musician, the little time that I can dedicate to my passion for music, I prefer to allocate to the act of playing and composing, with STUDIO ONE being so well planned, making a home recording is something accessible to everyone, even if we do not have great technical knowledge, being able to focus on the main task of making MUSIC. ### 5. I mean, yes of course most people will go looking for those things but you don't have to. There are plenty of virtual instruments and plug-ins effects to make incredible music without anything else. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** I don't like that they want you to pay extra to be able to have the ability to allow plug-ins from a 3rd party, but I understand the pricing model. I am sure that helps them make some money. It also can be confusing when first trying to understand the layout and operation of the DAW. It works a little different from what I was used to coming from other software. But it didn't take to long to figure it all out. Youtube is a big help. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Studio One solves the problem of having a one-stop solution to writing, recording, producing, and mastering an audio track for professional use. It works incredibly fast and is super reliable. it steps out of the way so you can get down to creating without being slowed down and hindered by the software. ### 6. More templating to apply individual preferences on top of a recordings settings would be helpful. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** The price point is unbelievable, and the workflows and features are better than almost all of the competitors on the market. Make sure your computer has lots of RAM and just go for it! **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Studio One has made it easy for me to do a live concert recording and quickly pull a song, mix it down, and produce a studio-quality master recording using the same hardware and software controls from start to finish. ### 7. I AM a Senior Citizen (age 64,...'when I'm sixty-four...) and wrote and performed music for 40 years of carpentry and home remodel, and I quit my day job, as a home remodel specialist. NOW I'M RETIRED, and Studio One actually makes it possible for me to bring all of my music to life in my new second job as RETIRED. FUN HuH? What more could you ask? Besides the learning keeps me young. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** I've been using Studio One for 10 years now, since 2010, and I still have steep learning curves on all the new gear that comes out. Some of it is the same with different names and the extra time to find out the difference sometimes leads me astray. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** Give it a try. There is always room in your bedroom for THIS studio And you can run it OFF LINE, unlike other programs that you can't use without internet. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Once you establish a BASIC PLAN to start, something not too complicated like an orchestral or symphonic program, it is much easier to keep adding instruments and tracks later in the development. It works with all plug-ins and can take you from proof-of-concept, to recording, all the way to finished product - ready for publishing. Very cool. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** There are very few downsides. The only one that comes to mind is that when importing MIDI files, Studio One does not recognize the timing. That is an extra step you have to do every time you import MIDI. A little annoying. But despite that, it is a very powerful tool. I do love it. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am both using Studio One to record music in a Studio, as well as using it to create mix music (dubstep, EDM, and the like). It does both very well. I love that I can record as many tracks as I need (e.g. 5 vocals, 5 drum mics, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 2 keyboard tracks, etc.) ### 10. With the addition of the new Sphere setup, Studio One is made even better for advanced and inexperienced users alike. The scratch pad is definitely one of the cooler features! Being able to "scratch out" ideas and not harm my original project gives me a huge advantage in my workflow. I really appreciate that I can strengthen my workflow in music all in one app. With the update of Studio One 5, you now have access to premade recording templates, which makes my recording process even easier! There is so much offered for the low price point, it is just amazing to have all this at my disposal. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** I wish that the Chat window was built into Studio One. It would be so cool to be able to chat in the window as I am recording and working with a collaborator. I could definitely benefit from a cleaner mixer view; I sometimes find myself getting lost or working on the wrong channel just because it's unclear which channel I have clicked on. I really wish that entire mixer channels would be colorized, instead of just the labels, this would make it so much easier to quickly see which channel I am currently on. Also, when I create a new project, Studio One auto creates a folder for it, this is kind of a pain, as I now have to remember my project by date, unless I have saved and created a new folder to save all files to. This usually creates duplicate files up to the time you saved the new folder. Help me save time on my hard drive by only creating a folder when I actually save the project. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** If I am already using another DAW, I would start slow, using this alongside my main DAW to try and understand how my workflow transfers over to Studio One. This was a pain point for me at first, but only a small one. Other than that, I would definitely dive in and most importantly, I would use the learning platform to quickly get you started in Studio One. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to easily organize and keep track of my recording sessions. I am also able to make "sketches" for Ideas that I am having without damaging or erasing my current session. Being able to open other DAWs as "sub DAWs" inside Studio One and pull whatever I work on into the main interface easily just makes my workflow so much cleaner, I really look forward to opening Studio One whenever I am ready to record. ### 11. They make the workflow very intuitive. The macros make every thinkable shortcut possible, even if it involves complex processes. Studio one uses the processing power of the computer better than Logic. Logic crashes a lot with big projects. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Videos seem to loose quality when you export them. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** It takes a while to switch from Logic Pro X to StudioOne, but it is worth it. Studio one has an intuitive function for everything. You end up twice as fast as working with Logic. The Macro function can really combine your favourite shortcut to one powerfull one that does the whole thing in one go. The amp simulation of Studio One is brilliant. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Studio one is very intuitive for sound design the drag and drop function onto audio files in a track makes it easier to get ideas realized quickly. ### 12. Allowing for advanced organization during utilitarian editing iterations, providing full video support and enough stock plugins to do most anything you need to efficiently, S1 covers a wide variety of needs in elegant ways. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Needs a simple solution to split a stereo clip to mono without the 'select in pool' option. There is a way to do this, but its longer than it needs to be. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** Studio one probably has the tool you need for whatever job you're doing, although it might not be easy to find or do the job in one step, but it is likely there nonetheless. There are a number of in-depth functions like the strip silence feature, elastic audio, and markers that you'll find in "AnotherDAW" and will be different, but with an open mind one realizes these tools work just as well. As with any tool, make sure it does meet your needs before purchasing, but overall I recommend studio one for anyone looking to get the best bang for their buck. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm able to use studio one for any project I'm working on - whether its recording and writing to video, stripping silence from a thousand sample library clips in batch in one project, mixing and mastering a multitrack recording or fixing a two track record with a buzz in one side. It is an incredibly versatile software in this way, where it can be as musical or functional or both as an engineer needs it to be. ### 13. You can add Murillo tracks at the same time without it looking all squeezed up. Adding colour combinations makes the whole mixer look amazing Recording on the go: I use Studio one on my iPad and record many tracks on the go. I’ve used Garage band previously but it doesn’t come close to the abilities of studio one. Especially if you’ve got a person is audio-box there’s no stopping you. Reliability: If you’ve have not saved your file don’t worry it’s still there **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Lack of number of stock plugins. Accidentally pressing certain hot keys Lack of YouTube tutorials for studio one, only one that’s reliable is Joe Gilder, do check him out. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** Go through the presonus website before using Studio one and I recommend reading the queries asked by others on the platform cause they post a lot of doubts that you might be having. Presonus is is quick in its responses **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** While using Pro tools I often get this message saying: CPU overload error occurred You never get the above message with studio one. Never crashes on you. Even if it does it easier to start the software fast again. Unlike pro tools it takes very less time to load ### 14. The color coding and general ease of layout are excellent. Also, when I track vocals, I truly love the grouping and folder function - it helps keep my workflow organized and easy to navigate. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** The first thing I dislike is where the hot-keys are located. I have a tendency to activate certain hot keys while I use my QWERTY midi-keyboard. The bus/fx routing also takes a lot of CPU on my device, so I have to be careful with how much routing I do - which is a pain sometimes. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** Know if you want to build your DAW on mac or windows. This might now be the right fit if you are MIDI intensive or producing mostly electronic music. I would also suggest building a library of external VSTs. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Studio One helps me solve the problem of needing a portable, sleek and well rounded DAW for recording, post production and mastering. The mastering suite is actually a big highlight I forgot to mention. ### 15. Looks like a complex system, but once you get it, you seriously get it!! Built-in Melodyne: Melodyne is just ctrl+M. Best for people who do a lot with vocal tuning. Event FX: Drag and drop function, you select any effect and add it to your channel. Stock Plugins: The stock plugins, are too good especially if you get Studio one 3 or 4 for free along with a Presonus product. The Fat channel plugin is an amazing all-in-one option for beginners as well as professionals who want to EQ, compressor, etc. Upgrades are worthy of the name: Studio one 5 is way better than the 4. Every upgrade adds more depth **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Moderately High CPU usage. Free versions do not have a VST3 plugin option **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** Do not watch Youtube videos to learn about Studio one, do your own trials. If you feel that Studio one is tough to understand, try another DAW and you will know you have been blessed with Studio one **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Low latency: I was facing huge latency while recording vocals in software like Pro tools. Studio one never gave me any latency, through the studio monitors Studio one has never crashed, while other DAWS have. Seamlessly working since day one. Track folders: Since I record vocals a lot, I have a lot of folders, Studio one helps in organizing your tracks easily Cost is significantly cheap when compared to other DAWS ### 16. If a feature is missing, you can be damn certain that a gang of VSTs will be waiting to surround you, punch you lifeless, take your money and fill the void. So for a review to be worthwhile, the most important features unique to this DAW must be put to light. The workflow here is incredible, key commands are easy to learn and quick to customize and I can put down drum machine beats through the keyboard or Maschine or midi controller lightning fast. The way you can split these bars with the "grid" feature is stupid rad if you make hip hop. Also, it almost never crashes. I don't have to bounce my tracks very much, even with nice plugin chains (at 32 RAM which is ok). even latency when playing guitar is minimal here. External sound card dropped in the mix and you can just go home and pee your pants, bro. also this might sound extremely pleb but idc - the colors are bright and easy to navigate. I literally chose this DAW when I didn't know anything about production because it had the prettiest colors (Studio one 3). they get even prettier with each edition. IDK how!! I thought I knew what colors looked like but I guess I'm a chump. Much like you, reading this. Since you probably don't have it. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Almost nothing. Maybe add some synths, its not super strong on virtual instruments. But there are 666 VSTs dying to rob you blind so have at it. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** 100% THE BEST DAW YOU CAN GET RIGHT NOW **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Pro Tools has a workflow that... leaves something to be desired to me. This just crushes it in speed and .. whatever the word is that describes this software as an old, well worn glove you've had since being a teen. Old faithful glovey. But its all new and the best thing you own and you neglect your girlfriend to play with it. ### 17. And I can throw a truckload of VST's at it and Studio One eats them all up and the drag and drop features are what brought me over from Pro Tools. I've been on Studio One since v1.5. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Honestly, there is really only one negative about Presonus S5, at least from my perspective, you can't export your score along with the picture as an MP4. It is an easy to use, intuitive software that has most options laid out in front of you. For example, setting up new busses and aux fx channels is so simple, it has dramatically increased my workflow. I come from a Pro Tools background and I have noticed an increase of speed through to completion of a project. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** I have noticed occasional bugs in the software. Sometimes depending if you are working completely in the box, I have to be a little more smart with insert choices as my cpu seems to run out quicker than on other DAW's. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** Benefits mainly are just increasing workflow speed, which is a huge benefit for me. ### 19. Also, it has a separate mastering station, which is just awesome! **What do you dislike about Studio One?** The saving functions are a bit confusing. There are different types of saves, and you should learn how they each work. One setting will not actually add recorded material to a file. I've lost important work once because of this confusion. Sometimes when I update it, my MIDI files change and required fixing. Not sure why, maybe it's just me, but I'm afraid to update now. I haven't investigated this or checked to see if this bug has been fixed, though. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** Take the time to learn the functions. Different variations can be applied with software integrations like Arturia. There are plenty of options for distortion, reverb, delay and more audio editing and producing guitar music. There are custom pedal boards we can use and also customize one of our own for getting the perfect tone for our songs. There are some inbuilt drum loops and an easily programmable tool to to make your own drum loop with all the sounds. Overall, it is very exciting to use and incredible output as well when it syncs. We have sound modifiers for better quality as well for the overall output but if you are a pro you are going to need some other filters as well to go along with it for heavier sounds. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** Sometimes you do not get the quality you would expect from your music. While recording heavy metal you get a lot of noise in the background which is hard to get rid of. The best way is to create or choose the right pedal board setting and set the pedals according to the tone and pace of the music. The overall audio quality of the recording also degrades slightly after extracting the file in the desired format. **Recommendations to others considering Studio One:** It is a great software if you want to start recording on your own at an affordable price. It comes with other mods like Arturia, Presonus headphones and audio box. It is a great pick especially if you are starting out in this field of sound engineering. **What problems is Studio One solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am creating a progressive metal album to explore and learn more about music. I got a Presonus Audiobox which came with Studio One. I record guitar mostly with studio one and it has been fun doing so. But not a cluttered GUI, nor are there a million and one menus and sub-menus you need to select in order to complete common tasks. And of course, it is multi-processor capable. So the more cores you run, the more Studio One can utilize each one of those threads for running everything in real-time. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** It can be a little lacking in reserving CPU Processor resources at times. But then again, I'm currently using Studio One Pro v3. So things may have improved in version 4. Not really that much of a complaint. There are 3 different version with different features, but the price range is low compared to other DAW, and every once in a while PreSonus releases good offers to upgrade. Clean, slick and visually appealing UI. Hundreds of built-in features to speed up your workflow, powerful built-in virtual instruments even for the basic version, smart tools with handy shortcuts, fast and reliable software. Even with lots of tracks and effect, I never experienced a slow rendering/playback or crash, on a 2011 MacBook Pro. **What do you dislike about Studio One?** The amount of options can be overwhelming at first. You can literally do everything you want, and this much freedom can confuse you and loose you inside small options windows or editing panels.
