Having a remote server carrying the hosting chores is also of great benefit, especially for those, like me, that may not have the latest and greatest computing systems. **What do you dislike about StreamYard?** It doesn't always play well with STMP sites. I do wish there were a slightly lower cost tier between the first two tiers. **What problems is StreamYard solving and how is that benefiting you?** Being able to interact with viewers in near-realtime has been fun. I can literally have all my programs closed, be next to my router, and only run my browser and there will still be a delay. **What problems is StreamYard solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm saving a lot of time by using Streamyard. The ROI vs. OBS is enormous - you can spend far less money and time setting up your stream and still produce an incredibly professional show. **What do you dislike about StreamYard?** There are a handful of advanced features I'd love for StreamYard to adopt - alpha channel Quicktime overlays, dedicated audio channel, etc. But these are all icing on the cake. If I really needed these features, I could spend a lot more money and time learning OBS or some other production software. **Recommendations to others considering StreamYard:** StreamYard is an excellent middle ground between producing a show using Zoom (or any meeting software) and scaling up to OBS. **What problems is StreamYard solving and how is that benefiting you?** With StreamYard, I was able to quickly take a live call-in television show and move it to a streaming platform. It is incredibly easy to set up (I got up and running in 10 minutes), and has an almost undetectable delay. It can even act as a replacement for Zoom for meetings between 6-10 people and runs much more stable. If you integrate it with a virtual audio mixer like Voicemeeter Potato, you can even stream games or other footage from software like OBS acting as a webcam. Plus, you can save a whole slew of banners, art, video assets, stream watermarks, and organize them into folders that stay tied to your account so that you can pre-create and reuse this content whenever is appropriate. Also, you can showcase comments from users in stream, or use the private chat to have BTS communication with your cohosts. And you can send a live stream to multiple locations at once, with more locations available for more expensive subscriptions! Without downloading anything! Can you see why I told the person who introduced it to me that I was mad that they didn't tell me about this sooner? **What do you dislike about StreamYard?** I wish the screen sharing with audio wasn't as limited. I'll break it down more below, but the basics are: - You can share if you're using Chrome. - Chrome Tabs can have their audio shared with no issues. - Applications cannot share their audio. - if you share your actual screen, it's possible that sharing the audio will lead into an echo (unless you use a virtual audio mixer). Also, while you can download either the audio or video of streams from the past two weeks, you can't download each participant's audio as a separate track (though you can solve this by using something like ennuicastr or having each participant record a local track and have everyone clap to create a sync point). This means that people could have various audio levels leading to editing problems, though the new auto level volume tool could fix it (and development is constantly going on, so this could change in the very near future). **Recommendations to others considering StreamYard:** If you want to get the most out of it, consider adding the following freeware or donationware: - Voicemeeter (specifically Voicemeeter Potato): Having a virtual audio mixer will take a little time to set up, but that investment will let you share audio from Applications (which typically aren't allowed to share audio with Streamyard) or more easily adjust the volume of your microphone. - Virtual Audio Cable: It will let you have an audio input to send software to, letting Voicemeeter mix it and your voice together so you can share it on Streamyard. - OBS Studio (or XSplit, which I already have): This will let you skip the screen sharing tool in Streamyard as a default, as you can have your camera be whatever OBS (or XSplit) would stream out. This means you can have a second screen share (like a YouTube video or flash game) set up and waiting in the wings. **What problems is StreamYard solving and how is that benefiting you?** This makes it easier to stream gameplay, record podcasts, and have team meetings across state lines (our team has members in Florida and Texas). Because the footage we'd be reviewing is kept in sync (even for footage I'm playing locally), it makes having a movie review podcast much easier. You can even run a whole online convention using this software. Which I wasn't expecting to help do, but what a hectic and fun two months of my 2020 that was! ### 41.
