It makes it easy to develop powerful and suitable models which has improved the state of the applications in the organization.
Stoplight is very intuitive and easy to get started with.

  ### 2. My company is an API marchant who needs to expose documentation for his public API to his clients.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

It satisfies my requirement for interactive documentation based on Markdown and OpenApi documents.
The client snippet generation, the API linter, and the mock server features.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

The billing plan does not allow to scale to an unlimited number of Studio guest users nor to a significant number of Studio writers without significant costs. I wish to use Stoplight for both my public and internal APIs and with unlimited guest users.
The absence of support for gRPC and AsyncAPI specifications.
The absence of support for external authentication and authorisation providers; for instance, I use auth0.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Good product that supports interactive, Markdown-based and OpenAPI based REST API documentation, API linting, Client code snippet generation, Mock servers, and API design process.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To expose interactive documentation (try it out) for my public REST API to my clients.

  ### 3. Best way to organize API documentation

  ### 4. Free tier does everything I need

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert L. | technical documentation manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Stoplight has worked great for us for several years. It makes it easy to manage multiple versions of the OpenAPI spec and add additional explanatory content. Code generation is excellent.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Stoplight shut off the SaaS service we had been using with no notice. It was just suddenly offline. It took several days for them to restore our project, help me migrate it to the new service, and redirect the old URL.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a tool to generate documentation from OpenAPI specifications. If the free tier meets all your requirements, it's hard to beat.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great tool for tech writers who need to generate OpenAPI documentation. The developers don't use it so we have no experience with the other features such as collaboration.

**Official Response from Anna Daugherty:**

> Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. This is definitely frustrating.

We tried our best to reach everyone about the shutdown of legacy Classic, NEXT, and V1 versions over the past year. According to our records, your account was canceled in September of 2021; that may explain why the communications were missed in the app. We are working to address your request, and have an open ticket to ensure we’re able to provide your documentation to you as soon as possible.

Thank you again, and I will update this reply as soon as more information is available for your support ticket.

  ### 9. Stoplight serves it's purpose in terms of being easy to use and it's very resultive as a software.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chetan B. | Staff Technical Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2022

Stoplight feels great for generating, writing, and testing OpenAPI spec files. It is also well made for linting and previewing API docs in a more modern layout.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Stoplight competitors provide a better experience for publishing a customer's API reference documentation.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Swagger online editor and its preview section feels old and obsolete. Stoplight has built a more modern experience for working with OpenAPI spec files. We use Stoplight for all our spec editing needs.

  ### 11. A perfect API modeler.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jean F. Q. | Founder & CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

It's really easy to model APIs with Stoplight. From model definitions to Responses to documentation, it makes it extremely convenient for a team to coordinate.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Some of the features (such as map view) are only available on the higher tiers. Some minor bugs on the markdown interface for documentation here and there; nothing major.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

It's definitely a great product and would recommend it any given time.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed to have a collaborative platform to model our APIs.

  ### 12. Perfect tool to create and share APIs!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shubham S. | Technical Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

The APIs can be directly created on the web by just sharing a simple URL, many other API creation software is not allowing this. It also auto-detects the issues that may persist in the creation.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

The body schema is not validated against the body images which is a downside for this software. Apart from that, the UI of the software in the desktop version is a bit complex and hence takes time to set things up.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This application is reducing my time to market for the application. Apart from that, it also improves the business process agility and drives innovation. It also manages the cost for the product which is being developed.

I'd love a better export method of the json

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Designing apis that are responsive to changes and versioning

  ### 14. Documenting an API and providing a testing harness is a breeze

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Trey E. C. | API Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

This platform is so balanced that it provides developers with a developer experience (Code and Design view) and a Read and Design view for the non-technical staff

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

The learning curve was dramatically reduced by the training the Stoplight team offered and the valuable documentation

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stoplight guides my team to create better APIs by initiating a front door method that streamlined how we design and build APIs

  ### 15. Best off the shelf API documentation solution, but can still use some polishing here and there

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Performing Arts | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Stoplight offers a great solution both for writing API documentation as well as publishing and sharing it. The OpenAPI editor in Stoplight Studio is miles ahead of anything else we've tried. And the support for Markdown files is a great complementary feature for writing step-by-step guides for specific use cases.

The published documentation looks excellent and is easy to browse. We continuously get feedback from integrators that they love the look and feel of our API docs.

We also like how we can create multiple projects in Stoplight to document all of our APIs in one place. This is something that other solutions often lack, as they focus on providing a documentation UI for a single API.

Stoplight's technical support is also excellent, even taking the time to set up a call for more complex questions if needed.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

While the editor and published docs are both great overall, there are still some minor annoyances that we have with the product. This ranges from minor bugs like API operations being sorted randomly in the published docs (instead of being sorted in the same way as specified in the OpenAPI file) to missing (minor) features such as support for conditional schemas in the OpenAPI editor. However, we are confident that over time these will all be polished by the team at Stoplight as we see continuous improvements to the platform.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

On the one hand, Stoplight provides us with an easy-to-use and beautiful API documentation portal for our integrators. On the other hand, the Stoplight Studio editor makes it a breeze to write OpenAPI and JSON schema files. This makes it easier to work API-first by designing the API operations and resources in Stoplight Studio first before implementing them in the API's codebase.

  ### 16. Amazing and simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Artur T. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Stoplight provides a very simple interface to document your APIs, and you can also separate them between internal and external ones, so that only your team has access to internal stuff.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

The long time I took to discover Stoplight :)

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are documenting our public API for companies to be able to query our large database with information about non-profits, including donations, fundraisers and charities.

  ### 17. Nicer than Swagger but questionable for professional use because not finished

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco F. | Senior IT-Architect, Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Nice look and feel. Logical UI. Not just to publish YAML but also to create context pages.
Customer support exists, but is of limited help.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

One of the recommended ways of working - splitting OpenAPI document into multiple files - does not work properly. All attributes of the child class are overwritten by the parent class, destroying descriptions and validations of the child, which is unacceptable. There are further issues not propagating comments properly to the UI.
If this is not fixed soon, we must revert to Swagger reluctantly.
Poor price performance ratio, expensive.
Poor support of password protecting docs to a limited audience. Registration does not work well.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

API doumentation.

  ### 18. Easy, Fast, and Effective Software For Business

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Agarathua W. | I, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

We usee this tool for designing API. It's fast and effective.

  ### 19. A great tool for API designing and documentation sharing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

How easy it is to create new documents (OpenAPI docs, guides and articles) following a consistent theme.

The immediate publication when documents are ready.

The possibility to apply version control to documents thanks to git integration.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Integrated forms (i.e., the possibility to create a form and receive the filled out data either on a page within the Stoplight dashboard, or by email)

Additional media items (embedded videos, sound files).

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

An excellent Technical Documentation for Developers

Use our portal in Stoplight as the entry point for prospects willing to learn more about our application.

  ### 20. Great All Round API Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam H. | Backend Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

The ability to have all of our API docs in a central location is amazing. Stoplight studio is also an amazing tool that removes the need to know the openAPI spec.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

There's not a lot to dislike tbh. I suppose that the cost is a little high but this is a great tool aimed at companies so even that isn't really a big problem .

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Give it a go. It's a great tool for managing all things API related.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to collaboratively design, test and mock API's. Stoplight has given us all the tools we need to be able to do this.

  ### 21. Stoplight Design Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Easy to use, well structured and intuitive user interface with all necessary functionalities.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Downsides include the lack of support for multiple languages like Python

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Saves time in designing simple yet repetitive APIs that are syntax error free

  ### 22. Nice system - Easy to understand... but some issues

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lou M. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Useful and nice options like visual customization.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

White label must be a basic thing in this case. I do not understand why I have to pay 2-300$ to have a white label system.
Also, several times when we try to update content, it doesn't work.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Really nice for team and external contractor collaboration

  ### 23. Stoplight is really good

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Ease of use.
Dashboard
Studio is awesome

API Documentation

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

the ui and design management is very well.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

support is not enough, can't get help in time.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

my be a feedback system for issues，which can help user to connect developer and support.

  ### 25. Makes API documentation easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cody J. | Software technical lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Easy to use, clear interface, fast, multi platform

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

When I want to change the order of fields, the interface is clunky

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping our business be API first and design contracts up front

  ### 26. Stoplight Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David V. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Great design our of the gate, easy to deploy (sometimes was a little slow with the updates), simple conversions from Markdown.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

With ease of use comes loss of control. We loved how fast we could get something up, but felt it lacking when we got in the weeds a bit, and had to find workarounds.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single source of truth for documentation internally and externally. We liked how the docs were close to the code in the repo. And the result looked professional.

  ### 27. Great platform to host your internal documentation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Ease of use when building out different documentation for APIs

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Sometimes the editing of the JSON or YAML document is hard to debug if there are any errors.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Internal documentation

  ### 28. A fine API documentation platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dibyani D. | Technical Writer (Proposal Manager), Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Our team of technical writers uses Stoplight for API documentation and interacting with developers and their code.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Consulting fees could be on the higher side. Also, integrating with our existing platforms was quite a headache.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Try the freemium model (for upto 10 users) before getting into business. You can check if it works for your organizational needs.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Collaboration with developers is a breeze.
We can see real time development on any project and contribute remotely.

  ### 29. The best tool to edit swagger

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oliver F. | Senior Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

This tool removed my need for manually editing a swagger file.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

I'm not a huge fan of all the cloud features

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps maintain swagger files between developers

  ### 30. Great tool to help designing API, still some gaps for a perfect documentation platform for our users

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Fairly easy API design editor with integrated API requests and the ability to build very quickly some mock servers.
Good way to mix business (markdown, images) and technical documentation (API specs, example requests, mocks) into a great support portal for our clients/users.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Not all OpenAPI v3 flexibility is implemented yet, but one can still go into the "raw" code to modify it.
Cumbersome to use the tool for external documentation platform, the notion of company login (that existed in Next for us to send 1 login to our client) does not exist anymore. Every user needs to request access and us to approve it as a guest which is not really scalable.
With migration from next to studio, we lost the possibility to inject environment variables linked to a login/organisation which restricted our possibilities and makes the portal less "custom-made" for our clients.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Tool with great potential

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* Quick API design / brainstorm
* Client support portal mixing business and technical content
* Easy mock servers

  ### 31. Best API documentation tool for team collaboration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Quoc Hoang V. | Backend Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

- Stoptlight Studio -> Can work offline
- Mockserver -> Easy for working with frontend
- Git integrated -> Everyone can collaborate without confliction
- Well documentations

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

The UI is quite confusing with too much information.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Thanks to Stoplight, we have a unified api document to lean on. It stops us from many async meetings to help improve the team's productivity.
- It's flexible to change/update the document. It's also provides history for tracking.

  ### 32. Stoplight works as advertised, open api platform to collaborate on api documentation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Stoplight has a simple interface, just what i expect from an open api platform. It's easy to create, sync and update documentation. Git integration and hooks work well, and the CLI is simple to use

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

There is no async api option. The CLI does not allow us to edit the files after the upload has happened. You can not sync back files to github. Would be nice if there was a 2-way file sync.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We want an internal open api documentaion for other developers to see and understand other team's api's. We also have customer facing apis that we want to share and document so they can integrate better

  ### 33. Stoplight serves the purpose

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kirti K. | Product Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

It is simple and easy to get the documentation ready for your users. We were looking for a 3rd party tool to launch our developer portal, and we were able to do it quickly. The platform is growing in the right direction, and indeed it would add more helpful features.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

While we were creating the docs, it had few limitations and was automatically changing the indent by itself. But it's resolved for now.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use stoplight to host our developer docs, and it has helped us a lot in making quick changes and improvements due to no engineering team dependency.

  ### 34. Comprehensive open api design and integration tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanuj D. | Software Engineer 1, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

It is a simple tool to learn and easy to install. It is a great tool to create API mocks and to test apis. It is a API suite which helps in developing, managing and testing APIs. It has inbuy integration with GitHub and it is quite similar to Postman and provides multiple workspaces to work.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

There could be more integrations with different tools which are used on day to day basis. For example it is missing integration with Microsoft active directory. The UI can be improved as well.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We deal with a lot of APIs so we use Stoplight to manage, test and debug APIs. We use the workspaces provided by Stoplight so that we can share these workspaces with internal as well as external teams. We use it with Swagger for documentation of APIs and testing it on the fly.

  ### 35. Great interface but needs to improve stability

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Excellent UI, easy code snippets, easy to get started with, good mocking tools.
Good integration with Jenkins allows easy deployments.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Stability is the biggest con. Internally we have discussed multiple times to have a self hosted version because the platform goes down from time to time. Performance is also an issue as speed is quite slow.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Greatly reduces time and effort to mainrain docs

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

With ui you can create open api specs and if you don't use you have to write yourself.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

There is not many themes at the UI. And sometimes the diff thing is not working well.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Generating open api specs yaml. The ui is most appealing thing in this product.

  ### 41. The best API design and documentation platform available

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael L. | Partner, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Stoplight provides an excellent API design and documentation platform, unlike anything else available in the market.

It is useful to:
1. Developers because they can export the OpenAPI file and import it into their development environment. They are also able to access API mocking to test their implementation.
2. Business and Product teams to be able to access business/functional requirements (beyond just the technical API specifications).

Stoplight, by far is the most progressive and comprehensive technical design and documentation platform we have come across.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

There are opportunities to improve certain user experience features, such as being able to drag and drop to reorder the menu of pages/APIs and, within particular models or methods, the order of fields.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Stoplight is highly effective at providing a design-first approach to software development - consider using Stoplight to ensure APIs and technical documentation are available to both technical and business personnel.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are utilising Stoplight to develop an industry-wide interoperability solution and have found Stoplight to be invaluable as a platform to enable collaborative technical design and centralised access to documentation - all presented in a user-friendly way.

**Official Response from Anna Daugherty:**

> Hi Michael,

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're glad that Stoplight is helping you take a design-first approach to building APIs at your organization.

You'll be happy to see that a few drag-and-drop features are on the horizon. Feel free to vote for your favorites on our roadmap!

  ### 42. A platform for mature REST API development

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dmitry P. | Senior Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

- A robust visual editor for OpenAPI documents
- Instant preview of API spec edits
- Ability to internally review unpublished spec changes
- Team collaboration
- Git integration
- Built-in linting and mocking tools
- Automatic API docs generation

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

- The UI is a bit confusing, feels like a tool built by developers. Although it has received some great improvements recently
- The generated docs could have easier navigation and discoveray
- Generated docs aren't responsive (but they're planning on addressing it)
- Cross-linking between articles or API endpoints is a pain
- Not enough control of what items from the OpenAPI document appear in the navigation sidebar and in what order
- Not enough customization when you embed Stoplight's docs into your own site, but they're planning on addressing it in the next version

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

Stoplight is a thought leader and an innovator in the API design and development space and I recommend you look into it. There are other products that implement a subset of its functionality (e.g. visual editing of OpenAPI docs), but Stoplight intends to be an end-to-end solution for API design and delivery. That said, the UX is a bit rough around the edges and it feels like not all pieces of the grand vision are yet in place. I'm still optimistic about the future of the product and look forward to seeing it evolve.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have adopted a design-first API delivery process where we design a spec for our API (using OpenAPI Specification) upfront, review it, and only then proceed to the implementation. Stoplight has been instrumental in facilitating the adoption of such process with a visual, collaborative OpenAPI editor, integration with Git, and a documentation portal for consumers of our API, all in one product. The team behind Stoplight also has additional tools that support API development such as Spectral (OAS linter) and Prism (OAS-based mock server).

**Official Response from Anna Daugherty:**

> Thank you again Dmitry for the kind words about Stoplight Platform. We're glad you're finding value and are building a community of design-first APIs at your organization.

And as always, we truly appreciate your product feedback! We've shared it with the Product team, and hopefully you'll see your suggestions in action soon.

Thanks again!

  ### 43. Stoplight made planning my API architecture a breeze

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rees M. | Frontend Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

The straightforward user interface makes creating mockups for API endpoints and database models a breeze. Having migrated from other platforms that force you to develop your API specs in YAML/JSON formats, I realized I was wasting more of my time figuring out the structure for writing API mockups than writing the mockups themselves. Since using Stoplight, almost all of my time dedicated to architecture planning has been spent actually planning the architecture, rather than having to validate my schema every couple of minutes.

The amount of detail that Stoplight allows me to provide for my models and endpoints, all through a UI editor without ever needing to switch to code, is fantastic. Stoplight does also offer the option to edit the code it generates (either in JSON or YAML format), though I rarely tend to use that.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

There is nothing about Stoplight that I dislike, though there are some pet peeves I have from my time using the service.

I usually provide an API response example for every HTTP status that my endpoints return. The majority of responses often include the use of Stoplight models (such as returning a user model from a `GET /users/:id` endpoint), though Stoplight does not update the examples if the model returned in the example is modified. This has little impact on my smaller project, though I can imagine large-scale projects running into issues where outdated models are returned as part of the example.

Another minor issue is the lack of sorting options for schemas. Whilst I completely understand JSON objects don't actually have any order, I often see myself switching to the code editor just to move API fields around in my schemas to just add a little bit more logic to what the model represents. For instance, I tend to keep any "metadata" fields (such as a title, slug, etc.) at the top of the schema, and everything else below. When constantly iterating on these designs, things often get moved around and separated which can make the model seem more complicated than it is.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

A fantastic tool for anybody looking to spec out their API/database architecture without wanting to spend hours doing so.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In cumulative hours, Stoplight has probably saved me days in writing spec documents for my architecture that I would have wasted on other platforms. I spent quite a fair amount of time looking for services that offered precisely what Stoplight does: a simple but effective editor for creating database and API schemas.

The main benefit I have realized is that planning architecture for an API/database doesn't have to be complex and time-consuming, but instead can be very straightforward (and somewhat relaxing!) when given the right tools.

**Official Response from Anna Daugherty:**

> Hi Rees,

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We're glad to hear that Stoplight is helping you plan effective API architecture!

You'll be happy to know that we're implementing a series of UX/UI changes and refreshes across the Stoplight Platform, including updates to drag-and-drop JSON Schema properties and other quality of life improvements. Feel free to vote on your most desirable features on our roadmap.

  ### 44. Spotlight has a very reliable software that allows users to customize their API to client needs.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Spotlight has a feature that has an AI based autofill tool that makes constructing new APIs very easy, and if it is based off of another existing model, it is even simpler.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

I think like most things, cost could always be improved. Stoplight is able to support bigger businesses, but they're pricing model prevents them from helping out smaller ones.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

It is a great solution for engineering and technology based companies to design APIs more clearly and efficiently.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company is able to create real engineering related problem solving tools for clients to use in the construction industry, which allows for greater ease and efficiency.

  ### 45. Good Balance of features and First class Documentation as code support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Srikanth N. | Technical Principal/Principal Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

* Ability to manage documentation as Code, in Git repo, CI/CD integration and also ability to preview and publish.
* Stoplight is the only SaaS based solution that allowed to to keep the workflow closer to the dev workflow
* It ability to allow tech and non-tech users collaborate is awesome.
* Publish API and general documentation relative to each other is wonderful

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

* Images need to be publicly accessible.
* Images in private Git repo are not supported.
* Not able to have documentation tied to multiple "environments". It has only pre-publish, and publish views, If it allowed a simple way to tie multiple envronments to the corresponding documentation and promote together it would have been more awesome.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

If you are looking for Handling documentation and API specs as a first-class citizen in your agile organization and want to promote good DevOps practices to go along, I would highly recommend it.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* Keeping documentation in sync with code changes.
* Using the same Versioning, CI/CD practices similar to code for documentation.
* Ability to control access for external viewers.

  ### 46. Monitoring Production

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jay K. | developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

This product is fantastic. It is robust monitoring help to the database. We cannot go and check manually. it is best

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

nothing is dislike, only one think is the priceing model become a higher, so if a smaller business cannot afford this

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefit is I realized that we could control access to the external spectator.
Also the graph we get is awsome so we trace it easily

  ### 47. Simple & intuitive interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lloyd Y. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Stoplight allowed me to jump into writing the API docs immediately without any hassle.

First of all, the interface was incredibly intuitive, and it was straightforward to do simple things like creating new page manuals and writing the API itself. When I logged in for the first time, it took me all but a few clicks to get started on writing.

The default layout was also incredibly professional-looking, and for those who are like me that do not require any bells & whistles in terms of the look & feel of the documentation, you would find Stoplight more than sufficient.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

One of the issues with the generated docs is the lack of mobile responsiveness of the generated documentation but it is already on their roadmap.

It's not a huge issue as API docs are rarely accessed over the phone but there are potential consumers that do check out documentation using their phones and this can be a cause of deterrent.

If you ever want to stop using it, you can simply export your existing work and work on it elsewhere.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

For those looking for an intuitive editor to write simple API documentation, I sincerely think that Stoplight is more than sufficient for it.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We just needed a professional-looking layout for our API documentation, and Stoplight made it incredibly easy for us.

Because of Spotlight, we do not have to worry about maintaining the look & feel of the layout.

Instead, we can now focus on editing the content of the documentation.

The test codes widget was also incredibly helpful for our users to quickly test our API on the page itself, which according to our consumers, is a huge plus.

  ### 48. Fantastic tool for designing and publishing API spes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott E. | Head of Architecture, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Very easy to use platform that is constantly delivering new features to assist with all things APIs. Great blogs around best practices and guidance on designing and building APIs. I also like the inbuilt mocking ability and the fact that the responses can by dynamic and even generated using Faker to make them more realistic.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

Licensing costs- can be quite costly for smaller teams where all members need to edit the spec.

Their support response times can be a little slow sometimes especially for me given I'm based in Australia and they are on the other side of the globe which means it can sometimes be a couple of days turn around on my enquiries.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

We looked at a number of options before choosing Stoplight. We found it to be a very well rounded product with design (including linting), publish and testing (mocks and Prism) all built into an online platform which makes it very easy to maintain and operate. Their product is constantly evolving with new features and gap fillers to make the platform even more enjoyable to use.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to easily edit OAS specs with an online graphical tool and then the ability to easily share the published specs with my peers.

**Official Response from Anna Daugherty:**

> Hi Scott,

Thank you for taking the time to review Stoplight! We're glad that our platform is able to help your team not only with creating great API designs, but also with thought leadership.

We recently brought on a new Support Director who is leveling up our entire support experience. Hopefully you'll see positive changes on your side of the world, as well!

  ### 49. Awesome tool to documents APis and Endpoints

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roberto H. | Senior Backend Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

Have a refreshing interface; also use versioning it GitLab. It's an excellent feature. The Dark mode is incredible; looks cleaner. Also, I can select to use JSON or YAML structure. I'm excited about how this tool can evolve in the future.

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

You cant export to JSON your models or structures created in the custom responses. That would be a cool feature to export examples made with the UI in YAML or JSON, some button or option in the UI. Creating a new branch for every commit can create a mess in Gitlab. The navigation menu in the dashboard would present the Endpoints in a folder, not all at the same lvl.

**Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:**

For now, it feels more like a tool to create good APIs documentation for devs. It would help the customer but need maybe more sections to add extensive descriptions.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are creating proper documentation for APIs for developers and customers. So stoplight comes to solve a problem; we need a place to centralize, make cleaner and accessible documentations to anyone.

  ### 50. Great Tool to document APIs and share them

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amrithnath V. | R&D Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Stoplight?**

I liked how simple it is to setup API documentation with mocking and all features. It is very easy to share and has a clean, simple UI. I also love that all files are stored as YAML in your own github repo so you can easily migrate to any other tool if needed

**What do you dislike about Stoplight?**

I would have loved to see more control over the link sharing settings. Maybe I want it to be private or visible to only a few people etc. Also the product onboarding can be better. For the most part I had knowledge about it so I was able to figure things out but in general people might need some help to get started.

**What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With spotlight I am able to document my code and APIs better for sharing with clients or other collaborators. I like how easy it is to export APIs you have documented in any format, The people I shared the documents with loved the mocking feature and found it easy to transition to code from documentation.
