Stoplight makes API design really easy. The graphical interface is very intuitive to use. It can easily switch to the code view and back. Even it is a web interface it works realtime when having other instances open. The git integration is well done and style guide validation is helping in avoiding mistakes and keep uniformity across all API design. The perfect example of how software should be. The only thing that could be really benefitial would be the option to have a so called API developer portal. A way to catalogue available API of the business and to mock them for users that don't count in the 'user' count. Another thing is the enormous price gap for the pro version. I could see this also as a pro because it means the most important features are available for a reasonable price, but rather would see the ability to select seperate features from the pro version without the need to completely move to the pro and paying the pro price. Structuring and documenting all the features of your API are very easy with Spotlight! It helps you create a scalable and easy to export OpenAPI specs which is very useful and structured! It lacks bulk editing tools, which can make things slightly manual, but if you're familiar with json/yaml then you can be more efficient! First of all it looks like modern tools about the UX - it's really user-friendly and you can do everything without reading tons of documentation. You just open the page and start creating your API models and endpoints. About possibilities it offers - you can create an endpoint with all needed parameters which some of them can be linked schemas created aside in the same UI. Entities can have its own children also linked from other schemas. There is also an export straight to YAML/JSON for external use. I like the versioning and email notifications with recent changes after publishing. I hope Stoplight will be continuosly growing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Stoplight? I don't see any significant cons of the product. Maybe it could be less expensive or free for internal projects (special license), but the cost it's not something horrible. We needed to have an API modelling and documentation creation tool which is easy and offer what we need. You cannot create good API maintained for years just from code. What do you dislike about Stoplight? If I had to pick something, it took a bit of time getting used to how to use it - switching between the code view and the textual view. Also when we want to find discussions we've had about a particular method or endpoint, it's there with that method and endpoint, we don't have to search some other third party repository of info where it's hard to find the discussion that we had. We at SevenApps are developing and maintaining mobile applications that have huge business logic behind the scenes. We use Firebase's remote config to control the logic, and every key returns a JSON value that has lots of primitive types but also polymorphic structures that reflects the internal models that we use to drive business logic. To validate and document these models we use stoplight's interface. This helps us to maintain a better communication between the development and product teams. We had to write some middlewares to validate JSON values, an API simply that validates values by the schemas on stoplight would be super cool. I like that you can still edit the code form of things, and that it's compatible with swagger style documentation. It's got a really great UI for the person creating the API documentation. It's often surprising the disconnect between how the editor sees the layout and organization of calls, compared to how the public read view sees it. You forget how important tags are for organization and hierarchy.
