As the data increases with time which the virtual tape library alos increases without significant additional costs or complexity. -Reduces cost and harware requirement significantly by eleminating the need to purchase physical tapes. What do you dislike about StarWind Virtual Tape Library? -As it was newly setup into our environment, the initial setup and configuration seemed a bit complex. Trained professionals are required for inital stages, not everyone can easily set it up efficiently. -The license fee of the application seemed to be on a higher side Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is StarWind Virtual Tape Library solving and how is that benefiting you? Here data is retrived much faster in comparison to physical tapes. It significantly reduces DR time in comparison to the legacy tapes which needs to be loaded, located and mechanically read. Also it supports scaling. As the data keeps on incerasing the StarWind Virtual Tape Library keeps on accomodating that data. Thus it eleminates the need of additional hardware and manually adding storage like it would have been done in case of physical tapes. Data stored in StarWind Virtual Tape is stored in immutable state. So data remians in WORM(Write Once Read Many) state, thus securing data against ransomeware attacks. StarWind Virtual Tape also provides the flexibility to leverage both onprem and cloud environments for both backup and archiving. It can easily be deployed in organisation's data centre as well as leverage cloud storage services from cloud providers likeas Azure, AWS or GCP. Also, there is no indicator currently on how long the duration of the offload will take. Recommendations to others considering StarWind Virtual Tape Library: Starwind VTL is an excellent option for companies that want to avoid the high costs of purchasing a tape library and manually changing tapes which can be prone to human error. We needed to keep air-gapped tape backups; however we wanted to avoid physically changing and scheduling tapes for offsite storage. I can finally move away from Physical tapes needing to be changed and rotated. What do you dislike about StarWind Virtual Tape Library? From my experience, it is not fast unless you set up several instances. Now the bottleneck could be the storage that I am writing to, as it is a spinning disk.
