The StarWind HCA is great product and solution for a SMB. Very well priced, easy to manage and the support engineers are exceptional. Their sales team was excellent and had absolutely none of the typical salesman tactics that I've experienced with most vendors. They were incredibly knowledgeable, and any time I had a question that they weren't able to answer, they would get one of their engineers on the phone to answer the question immediately.

Their support team has also been excellent. You never get sent to a support person who is just reading a script and asking you to do things that you've already done, and every single one of the support personnel that I have dealt with has been knowledgeable, polite, and solved the issue on the spot. They also handle the entire initial setup of the hardware, the StarWind VSAN software, and the migration of your VMs, if you want them to, no matter which hypervisor you use, and they did an excellent job with that too.

I really can't recommend them enough. Their VSAN software is excellent, the ability to get a highly available setup with just two nodes is fantastic, their support is top-notch, and from a cost perspective, they blew everybody else out of the water. From the initial sales contact to the final sign-off, everything was very easy. Even with the scope of the project changing way too often and constant delays; StarWind was a dream to work with. Once we finally settled on the hardware and got it installed, StarWind support took over and got everything working. Fit right into our environment and we were up and running and moving VMs in a few hours. Moved from a random gathering of Hyper-V servers of various ages to a 3-node cluster THAT JUST WORKS.

I can imagine this would be a nice solution for similar situations to ours - hardware refresh with additional redundancy. We have ~100 VMs using ~480GB RAM and 50TB. These are VMs with similar CPU needs, so it worked out well. If there are one-off VMs with higher CPU needs, I would look at maybe a separate cluster. Trying to do too much would have been much more expensive.

We had one issue with a drive that went bad. StarWind informed us before we knew. Few emails later and a tech was scheduled, few days later everything was replaced. Was a painless process. We have done maintenance in the middle of the day - Windows and Dell updates. No impact to production - users had no idea. This is all built on proven Windows Server technology.
