We are better able to focus on delivering the right compliance outcomes rather than running a software development organisation. We have moved from a position where we were largely consumers of the product to one where we have a genuine partnership with Star, influencing the product roadmap and working collaboratively on enhancement that benefit us, Star and their other clients. This is an enjoyable partnership working with great people at Star. There are significant operational and financial advantages to the operating model as we avoid the substantial investment that would be required to build and maintain an equivalent in house platform, including recruiting and retaining specialist software engineers, product managers, infrastructure specialists and cyber security experts. We also avoid the ongoing costs of hosting, server maintenance, resilience, disaster recovery, security patching, technical upgrades and some platform support. While there are naturally areas where we must ensure the platform aligns with our own internal security, architecture and governance requirements, the overall model delivers significant economies of scale an reduces operational risk and the long term cost of ownership. In addition, the move to the new micro services model will drastically lessen the burden on us whilst increasing stability. We are using the Compliance Control Room module, Gifts & Entertainment, Business Procedures to handle our Outside Business Interests and Close Personal Relationships (pending transfer to the new architecture and OBA module) and Personal Account Dealing, plus we have a Snowflake instance to help to handle historic reporting data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about StarCompliance? The primary trade off of using a third party platform is that we are one of many customers. While Star Compliance is highly collaborative and responsive, its product roadmap must balance the needs and priorities of its entire client base. As a result, enhancement that would deliver significant value for us may not always align with sider customer demand or Star's immediate development priorities. This can sometimes affect the timing of new functionality. As one of Star's larger and more complex clients, our implementation is perhaps different from others. That complexity brings considerable business capability but can make troubleshooting and diagnostics more challenging. Issues are not always directly comparable with those experienced by other clients, meaning investigation can require a deeper understanding of our specific configuration and operating model. In addition, whilst the platform provides a high degree of configurability, there are naturally some constraints associated with working within a shared product. Certain design decisions or architectural changes need to be considered in the context of the wider platform rather than solely our requirements. In addition the read across between the modules is planned to be strengthened over the coming iterations once the architectural changes are made. These are, however, the typical trade offs of adopting a mature enterprise solution. In most cases, the benefits of leveraging a specialist provider, including continuous investment, resilience, specialist expertise and reduced operational overhead, significantly outweigh the limitation, particularly where there is a strong collaborative partnership and clear governance over priorities. From an onboarding perspective it is really important that the product is understood prior to implementation as a number of problems that we have encountered along our journey have come from our own prioritising speed over quality of implementation which has meant that we are now going through a process of re-evaluating unused capability and adjusting our processes to make better use of the products. Star Compliance is solving the challenge of managing complex regulatory obligations through a single, integrated platform. It standardises and streamlines key compliance processes, replacing manual or fragmented workflows with consistent, auditable controls. For us, this means simpler and more efficient workflows, stronger governance and better quality data. The platform provides the core capability required to manage obligations such as inside information controls, personal account dealing and related compliance activities while allowing us to confiture those processes to meet our specific policy and regulatory requirements. The personal account dealing processes is a good example of the improvements in data control and structuring. Compared with our previous internally development solution, Star delivers a better workflow and a more efficient end to end process for both employees and Compliance. This reduces operational effort while improving the effectiveness of the control environment. Overall the platform enables Compliance to spend less time administering processes and more time focussing on oversight, risk management and supporting the business. We are using the Compliance Control Room module, Gifts & Entertainment, Business Procedures to handle our Outside Business Interests and Close Personal Relationships (pending transfer to the new architecture and OBA module) and Personal Account Dealing, plus we have a Snowflake instance to help to handle historic reporting data. I appreciate that StarCompliance makes activities more visible, transparent, and easy to follow for users. The system itself is good overall, and the back-up service is excellent. It's straightforward to use once you get used to it. The dashboards are becoming more helpful as they evolve, and we've been able to extract and build a good MI suite. The support in answering query tickets has been extremely efficient at all times. What do you dislike about StarCompliance? The system could improve in flexibility around changing some of the forms and filters. It is hard to add a box to an objectives page to demonstrate the activities undertaken to complete that objective. The platform is continually evolving to keep pace with changing markets and regulatory environments. Sometimes we need small customisations, but these can’t always be accommodated because they need to maintain a common codebase across all clients. That can be frustrating at times, although I understand that too many customisations would significantly increase support and maintenance costs. StarCompliance is most valuable in how it centralizes and standardizes employee compliance processes that would otherwise be fragmented across spreadsheets and email. Having personal trading, outside activities, gifts & entertainment, political contributions, and attestations in one system, combined with configurable workflows for pre-clearance and disclosures, makes the process far more consistent and audit-ready. It has meaningfully reduced manual follow-up and allowed us to focus more on reviewing risk rather than chasing submissions, while the reporting and dashboards give a clearer, more consolidated view of employee activity. StarCompliance is a very comprehensive platform, and that breadth is a strength, but at times it can feel like the product is expanding quickly with new modules and capabilities. As a result, some existing workflows could be further streamlined to reduce friction and improve the overall user experience. Separately, report creation can still require some manual effort to tailor outputs to specific needs. That said, this is clearly an area of active investment, and the newer Analytics offering is a positive step forward - continued enhancements there would meaningfully improve efficiency and make it easier to extract insights without additional work. We historically struggled with fragmented and manual processes for managing employee compliance; personal trading approvals, disclosures, and attestations were tracked across spreadsheets and email, which made it difficult to maintain consistency and a clear audit trail. With StarCompliance, these workflows are centralized and automated, so requests are submitted, routed, and recorded in a standardized way. This has significantly reduced manual follow-up and improved audit readiness by ensuring all activity is documented and easy to evidence. As a result, the compliance team spends less time on administrative tasks (e.g., chasing submissions or reconciling data) and more time reviewing actual risk. We also have better visibility into employee activity through consolidated reporting, which allows us to identify issues more quickly and manage compliance in a more proactive, scalable way. Due to business reasons, we needed to cancel our subscription. Despite informing them after receiving our annual invoice on December 2nd, they are insisting we pay for the entire 2025 year because we missed the cancellation deadline of November 1, 2024, as per our agreement.
