It's really helpful in understanding how a query is going to execute. It also has lineage and audit features. I find it user-friendly for managing data security with RBAC and based security controls, which are necessary for data governance. Starburst is especially useful for running complex queries, especially when dealing with multiple joins and data source systems. It supports multiple languages, which I find very valuable. Setting up Starburst wasn't complex, and I had good support from the solution architect, which made the process successful. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** Sometimes I face challenges with the query editor. Whenever we have a big source code, it's not big enough to troubleshoot and run the query faster compared to a traditional SQL editor. I would definitely give feedback to the internal team to make it more user-friendly. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starburst solves data duplication issues, allowing access to any source without copying data for analytics. It's user-friendly for managing data security with RBAC and facilitates complex queries across multiple data sources, supporting multilingual analytics. ### 2. I’ve found that it optimizes query execution whether the data is in multiple systems. And it helped reduce the hassle of asking people for data and querying it manually, which had skewed to a massive part of our time. Having the ability to take complex join queries, without worrying about movement of data has really elevated our workflow to be able to see more analysis instead of thinking about logistics. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** To be fair, Starburst is a very full featured product and pretty intuitive but some things are not so intuitive as I’d like them to be so troubleshooting can be more difficult. Moreover, when it comes to distributed query engines, those teams that are new to them will need some time to really get a whole picture of all the choices here offered. Occasionally, on a problem, I get so lost in the docs and have to dig it that we can’t work. This could certainly be made clearer and more accessible. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** By using Starburst we have removed the problems or fragmented data across many platforms as we can query everything through a single interface. By cutting down on the manual release of data from separate systems, we’ve saved ourselves a lot of time, and workflow has been streamlined with the data made easier to access. It’s also allowed us to work better with data, through more efficient use of data to work faster on the whole company and faster to make decisions on data. ### 3. It lets us query data in multiple system data, AWS and google cloud without having to worry about integration issues. It’s also fast, and that worked even with large amounts of data, which is the performance, and the results. Making our data access just much easier and indispensable for our analytics team. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** For some reason, the initial setup for Starburst is the main downside I’ve found to it. It’s strong, but a lot of configuration is needed when combining with other data sources. Assuring that everything is attached and working in concert can take some time. Furthermore, there are some issues with dealing with bring complex queries, which can cause a performance hiccup when trying to pull all the data from multiple sources at once. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starburst has changed the game for us, out of data relevant to us now comes automatically and effortlessly. Instead of dunns between platforms to get to all the information we need we no longer waste time switching between platforms. All that is now accessible in the area of one place, and makes data analysis faster and more efficient. Moreover it’s helped with teamwork and fasten made making decisions suitably. ### 4. Starburst SSO integration and SCIM capabilities along with the IAM integration with AWS was very well implemented. RBAC and ABAC capabilities are also robust. Starburst support team has also been very responsive so far. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** Telemetry capabilities are still far from robust. CPU based autoscaling had a lot of issues, but has greatly improved recently. Lack of integration with alerting tools like slack or pagerduty is very limiting and making users to spend time integrating custom plugins. There is also no current feature to warn users if certain queries are blocking the cluster resources or some automatic termination of such queries. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Enabling Data Scientists and DataEngineers to run Large analytical workloads and ad-hoc querying. ### 5. We no longer have to extract and put things together from separate locations because it is accessible in a structured format. It has substantially reduced redundant work and made sure that our team dedicates its time to meaningful analysis rather than an excess on data preparation. This has helped us structure our decision making a lot more and has made it more efficient. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** Starburst is powerful, but some advanced query functions are as complex as you would expect for something that involves moving notoriously complex data. Not all team memebrs are comfortable with some features sometimes which sometimes causes to hindrance as we wait for someone who is more experienced. The documentation could also be clearer, most especially when trying to identify a particular scenario. Because of this lack of clarity, some processes have been slower than they should be. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starburst has saved a huge amount of time that we used to spend performing data preparation. This means we’re duplexing our limited time concentrating more on applying insights rather than piecing together information from a number of sources. It has proved a great advantage when working on cross functional projects as everyone has the same copy of the information to be able to work on. It has allowed us to work better with less of the usual bottlenecks. ### 6. As part of a project I needed to assess sales records stored across three separate databases. Through Starburst I was able to execute multi database queries so I avoided spending one full day conducting the work. The outstanding security protocols of the platform bring reliability during the handling of critical data. Our daily operations thrive from automatic data encryption combined with user authentication features. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** Unfortunately, one thing that can be a little frustrating on Starburst is closing the query window before saving your work. If there was an auto save feature for this it would be great. One issue is that very complex queries sometimes bogs down the system, and there are some performance problems here and there. Take for example, I sometimes had a query that needed to be run, and it took over 10 minutes to complete, that was a pain. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using Starburst enables our organization to conduct flawless integrated data queries and analysis through multiple data systems. We formerly put a great deal of effort into manual data consolidation between multiple databases yet the work often included mistakes and variance. Starburst enables real time access to updated information which streamline decision processes for our organization. Our data security expands stronger because we no longer need to transfer data nor worry about unauthorized database entry because implementing Starburst. ### 7. Despite this, it keeps working, running smoothly, and maintaining standard and precision in every organization even when dealing with different environments. The use of research has helped in minimizing the risks posed by incomplete and other mismatched data results. The flexibility it has shown in dealing with the different types of queries it receives has helped minimize on overly complicated intra-functional work flows while directing more effort to the production of relevant results. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** One major inconvenience of Starburst is that during heavily utilized periods, when executing complicated queries, it draws a rather large number of resources, and hence can be slow. Because fixing these queries involves some high level of technical experience, the problem solving would take a lot of time consuming time than required hence the disruption of the normal working progress hence affecting time bound projects that would be very crucial in the achievement of business objectives. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starburst has addressed the problem of having different sources of data where the user has to develop different pipelines to handle them and this has reduce a lot of time and energy. It relieves our team of managing infrastructural issues that would otherwise distract from creating the desired impact. The ability for us to pull insights directly from where the data lives greatly benefits our workflow. By not having to manually collect, transfer, or aggregate data before using it, we’ve been able to streamline our processes and save us a lot of very valuable time. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** In sum there are many good things with Starburst search engine but it is not always suitable for task of executing very specific, detailed questions. In some cases when a certain level of depth or specificity is required for business operations we have had to turn to other tools. Sometimes this longer process can be quite bothersome, especially when one has to shift between the tools for the purpose of the different interfaces. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starburst helps us solve one of its main challenges – use of dataset across multiple platforms for analysis becomes challenging. We found ourselves daily shuffling and merging data without the use of It which was greatly involving and full of errors. Now with Starburst we can go direct to where the data sits and it has helped to do a lot of these things for us, so we are more efficient and pretty much get accuracy in our working which has led to making quicker decisions. ### 9. What that platform is fantastic with is processing huge quantities of data quickly so when we want to do detailed analysis, we don’t have to worry about slow downs. It's especially helpful when we're dealing with highly complex queries that span different databases. Querying without needing to physically move the data saves a lot of time and resources. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** While Starburst can be resource intensive with large or complex queries especially. Although it does well with data, when at peak usage, some queries might be slower to process or consume more resources than they should. By doing this however, we end up with delays, particularly when we want to be making analysis out of the real data in real time, or delivering insights immediately, which is very undesirable in a fast pace environment. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starburst is a solved problem to querying across multiple platforms without the need to consolidate everything in one place. This has speeded up our analysis process to the point where we can run complex queries on disparate data sources such as databases on cloud and on premises. It helps us make more informed decisions faster, get insights, save us time and we spend less resources getting those insights which in turn enhances our operational efficiency. ### 10. Either way, we use it to run complex queries across our cloud data warehouses and on premises systems without having to think about the data silos. We’ve seen seamless integration with tools such as AWS Redshift and Google BigQuery which has meant our team can access and analyse data much quicker. More specifically, it is most useful for running analytics at scale to allow us to make data driven decisions faster. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** Starburst’s one downside is that it doesn’t perform well for very large datasets. It does a great job most of the time, but if you have an unusually large dataset it can slow things down. It has meant that we’ve been unable to get real time insights on some of our more complex queries. This can be costly and time consuming to fix and is not good for businesses that run on tight budgets. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problem of access and Analysis of data from multiple sources in real time has been solved by using Starburst. With it, we can seamlessly query both cloud and on premises data systems without concerning ourselves with moving data around or with silos. It has saved us time, improved coordination between departments and expedited our decision making process. Great product that meets practically all of our demands. Delivery was of good quality and extremely accurate. It needs to improve in a few areas, but nothing that discredits or leaves much to be desired. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** We sometimes experienced delays in the ticket loop. Should make some aspects toggleable to increase flexibility. FTE, multi-tenant, and displaying query history on the console with statistics would be ideal. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** When we made starburst available to all corporate members, it transformed the way they saw data. We no longer have delays in delivering information because Trino can connect to numerous databases/datastores by design. ### 12. Good query editor. Responsive autoscaling with good performance in query execution. Support for different datasources and federated query execution. Great customer support. Easy to implement and start using starburst galaxy. **What do you dislike about Starburst?** Catalog features are still basic and lack certain functionalities. Its a lot of manual effort to maintain access policies as we have to add each schema/table while creating policies. We are missing AI features to convert text to queries, optimize certain queries etc. **What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using it as query engine to read data from datalake and use it in for creating analytical usecases in the company.
