Setting up the basics—adding products, customizing pages—is very intuitive. You don't need to mess with separate hosting, security, or many third-party plugins. Limited Scalability & Integrations: If you plan to scale rapidly, manage thousands of products, or need deep integrations with niche third-party software (like specific accounting or warehouse management tools), you might eventually feel restricted. It's not as robust as a dedicated e-commerce giant like Shopify. Less Flexibility: While the templates are gorgeous, the design freedom is more contained than platforms like WordPress. If you need highly complex or custom layouts outside the template structure, it can be a bit challenging. Pricing: The higher-tier commerce plans can get pricey, and you need to be on a commerce-specific plan to avoid transaction fees (which is a must-have for any serious seller). This makes launching your online presence fast, non-technical, and accessible to anyone. Problem Solved: Inconsistent or Unattractive Design Squarespace Solution: It offers a curated collection of professionally designed, mobile-responsive templates. "A Robust Platform That's Difficult to Design" 2/5 What do you like best about Squarespace? There are so many capabilities Squarespace has in-house—most notably, mailing lists and monetization. It's easy to post content, and there's a lot you can do with no knowledge of coding. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Squarespace? The design is completely in-flexible if you need to change, say a title to a different spot or creating columned sections of text/images. The user interface is buggy when you want to change margins on the page or rearrange objects. It takes so long just to move one paragraph above a paragraph and add spaces for margins, it's completely unreasonably buggy—the paragraphs flip away from the cursor and refuse to be positioned in spot. And while the interface for a regular website is easy to add content in, if you make any changes to the spacing, then the responsive is also difficult to work with. I redesigned the entire website in Wordpress, and it was like a breath of fresh air, because I didn't have to fight with the interface to get it to do what I wanted. I understand that Squarespace is designed for people who don't have an understanding of website development, and I do. Even so, if the responsive were more intuitive and the margins and columns were easier to work with, this would be my program! Because the rest of it is really incredible. Squarespace was great to get a website started, and it has a lot of options on fonts and styles, but the building blocks for it are rather pedantic and a little difficult. IN the new version, they have a style editor, and it really has limited functionality and makes the websites look so elementary. Much prefer Wix to Squarespace for this reason. Reminds me of Rapidweaver which I loved back in the day before online website editors became available everywhere. Customer service usually offers a quick response, but more often than not just throwing links at you, even if the answer might be as simple as a yes or no. Quite a bit pricier than other options and SSL's are not included with hosting like some other hosting sites offer. Even if your content is just informational secure sites are preferred on Google searches and rank higher than non secured sites, so SSL is important. Also, themes can be inflexible and the learning curve is equal to just learning WordPress yourself. Once you do that, there are a huge amount of plugins to help you achieve almost anything you want. Squarespace has some nice templates and is fairly user friendly if you don't have very specific ideas about what your site should look like and you don't need it to do much other than advertise your business. You can't always get elements to go where you want them to go and you are stuck with a rigid column-based layout dictated by your template. If you want one section of text to be a different color than the colors specified in your styles for whatever reason, you must use custom CSS code to make that happen. E-commerce has limitations as well if you're selling experiences (like tickets to an event, for instance) instead of physical products.
