## SQL Developer Reviews
  ### 1. Good Tool. Does the Job. Prefer PLSQL Developer

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vipul J. | Product Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2016

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Has a nice export query result functionality which supports exporting results to csv, xls, as well as a loader script. Easy to use UI. Provides nice to have interface for accessing DBA objects if you have DBA privileges. Has easy integration with version control tools such as GIT and SVN.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Not so stable and lags if the query is taking a long time to execute. Hangs if query execution is stopped before completion of a time-consuming query. Cannot keep the application window open for a longer time as the application will stop responding and you will have to restart the application.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

Free and comes with oracle installation. Has almost all the features which a Developer would need. Not fancy though. If you have a choice, go for Toad or PLSQL Developer.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I have worked in the Financial Domain, most of the business logic resided in the backend. Creating MIS daily and quarterly reports for a major financial institution is the main business goal for our project. SQL Developer has inbuilt features which help in performance tuning of the application. Provides explain plan window as well other query analyser features which are useful for performance tuning of the queries.

  ### 2. Awesome Database Tool!

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

I find SQL Developer to be just as powerful / robust as Toad, but SQL Developer is FREE! I've used SQL Developer for many years to interact with Oracle databases. It is very handy for writing queries, reporting, and drilling down into database tables for additional stats.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The update process of SQL Developer is lacking. You generally have to proactively seek out new updates and manually install them.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

While there are other options out there such as Toad, I find SQL Developer to be just as useful and FREE. I have never encountered anything I was unable to do in SQL Developer that I felt another program would handle.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SQL Developer has allowed me to extract all sorts of information from the databases I connect. It even has query / syntax helpers if you are in need of some assistance.

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Flexible GUI. The UI updates of the latest version have made navigating through the various features of Oracle SQL Developer quite easy. Great Tools for Testing and Developing SQL Scripts. SQL scripting can be a hassle when working with large tables and such. Oracle SQL Developer makes it easy to preview how many rows and tables will be affected. Ability to Load Data from Different File Formats. Some of our data comes in the form of Excel spreadsheets, XML, and JSON. Oracle SQL Developer allows our database administrators to easily push the data from these formats into our database tables automatically.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Setup can be challenging if your schemas aren't well formed or managed. Also, the ability to model/develop extensions for an existing database solution will depend on how robust the DBA provisioned roles and designed the respective schemas.
Detailed analysis of models can be clunky for complex relational models.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our database administration team is using Oracle SQL Developer for the sake of increased productivity. Instead of writing SQL queries out, they use Oracle SQL Developer's IDE interface to quickly create complex queries. Some other features we use include browsing/managing data, ad-hoc reporting, migrating 3rd party RDBMS systems over to Oracle, and data modeling.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

It's free. Everyone likes free tools. The UI is quite simple, you will not need any manual to operate it.
The tool was used throughout my organisation. I used it in software testing. The fact that handle multiple data bases at one time and you can work with data very easily through queries directly makes it user friendly.
Exporting data is another useful feature to analyse data. This was required while we were making software from scratch and it was very helpful in root cause analysis.
Another simple yet useful feature is the color coding of keywords while writing sql queries.
You can also save your work into a sql file which can be used later.
From beginners to experts it's useful for all.
End user reports extraction using sql queries is very direct easy.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

There is nothing as such to dislike but sometime while running large set of queries it used to hang (running displayed always) and we were never sure that the changes were made or not. Anyway we have to execute the changes again which was a rework.
The UI is not customizable which is think is a feature present in many tools.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

It's a very nice and easy to use tool. I highly recommend it. Even if you are a beginner in SQL you can make use of the tool for learning purpose too.
For industry purpose, it surely reduces cost and time.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exporting the data in excel, csv and other formats. We had a large data to analyse and this really helped us in saving a lot of time and effort.
And the UI is so simple that even the freshers with no experience were able to run the queries, you need not to go to the server. All the databases were connected through UI and the work was simplified.
The use of filters is very easy and direct. You can direct use filters and do sorting on the tables/columns.
Making connection is also simple. You can work with all the instances simultaneously.

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

You can add as many connections you want, creating a table or updating any table structure - variable type, size etc is just so easy with Oracle sql developer by just right click and edit.. / create table.. A Connection added is so well structured with tables, views, triggers, sequences, views, procedures, functions, etc

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The timeout span must be increased.. and there's no shortcut to switch between two connections. Also the export time is too large for a small file too..

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maintaining database for healthcare management system. Easy to maintain bulky data, search, store. Use functions, triggers, procedures, etc without having to actually write the query..

  ### 23. Fast Database Processing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

We can save multiple session of different schema. We can view all table and user in the schema in a single window, can place request to view DDL which is generated automatically. Multiple queries can be made in a single window.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The SQL developer does not prompts with correct syntax if something is missed. If a query is killed it take lot of time to execute it. Unable to export data in the latest excel also very less format options are available to export.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

Use this developer for any amount of data

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The data visualisations are made with very large amount of data are being made with SQL developer. Query enables various operations to be performed on the base of very large amount and results in desired output.
The manual calculations and filteration of data are easily being done using SQL developer

  ### 24. SQL Developer Reviews

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Oracle SQL Developer is a free, integrated development environment that simplifies the development and management of Oracle Database in both traditional and Cloud deployments. SQL Developer offers complete end-to-end development of your PL/SQL applications, a worksheet for running queries and scripts, a DBA console for managing the database, a reports interface, a complete data modeling solution, and a migration platform for moving your 3rd party databases to Oracle.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Never know when a query has been truly terminated. Even if one has access to the SQL Monitoring or Monitoring SQL Sessions, it still may show as being terminated but in actuality, within OEM, the query could still be running and need to be killed there. The inability to truly know when a session has ended results in frustration because the next query may not be able to run because the last is actually still running.
The tuning advisor runs very long and is not always helpful.
Not knowing the status of a query can be frustrating. That is, if a query is running long, it may show as "running" (i.e. the horizontal bar moving back and forth at the bottom of the screen), but in actuality, it may be hung up.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SQL Developer is useful for navigating the DDL of a table.
Easy-to-understand errors and explanations on incorrect queries.
Quick load time of application from start-up.
Explain plans are very helpful in tuning.
Some users in our IT department use TOAD, instead. Because SQL Oracle Developer is free, it is the preferred choice by management. Having an application to query our databases allows non-expert users to write and query SQL without the use of command-line applications, like SQL Plus. This "user-friendly" attribute is appealing to non-DBAs.

  ### 25. Has all of the functionality you would want and expect

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

I enjoy sql developer for what it is. It's quick, easy to use, the layout makes sense, and it's not a super resource hungry. Switching between connections is quick and it offers a fair amount of functionality tailored towards DBAs.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

There isn't much to dislike really. One thing I would like them to add would be themes. Personally I enjoy the dark theme option from Microsoft products, I wish Oracle would adopt that. It's definitely not crucial functionality or anything, but a nice feature when all your other apps are dark and you're working at night.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

Overall it makes life easier when dealing with oracle databases. It's a much better app than the Windows command line sqlplus. It runs nicely in a Linux based environment as well, but at that point your messing around with command lines anyways. It still works really well in that it gives you a kind of scratch pad to keep past queries handy. Useful for investigating issues.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It just makes it easy to jump into a database and get a quick visual of the data that's easy to read and understand.

  ### 26. SQL Developer

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

SQL Developer is a great tool to assist with tuning and testing SQL, as well as looking at explain plans and generating better outputs (xls, csv, etc.)

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Not all of the features are easy to find/use. There are a number of features that I found simply from clicking around and by luck. Not sure if there is a good documentation page out there.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

There are a lot of features that are not obvious, and once you dive deeper it can be a very helpful tool.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing developers to tune queries without giving them access to OEM. We try to limit access that we give to our users as a DBA, so SQL Devleoper allows them to do some tuning and look at how their SQL will run.

  ### 27. All the tools you need to manage Oracle Instances

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George F. | ETL Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

I started working with oracle databases just this year. I would like to say that working with SQL developer it'ts been a good experience from all perspective. You have all the tools you need in place from data monitoring to export-import data from multiple sources. I'm mainly working as an ETL engineer so most of the time I write long queries inside sql developer. I like the way how we can debug our code and get insight directly from the IDE. There are a lot of functionality out of the box if you are a DBA you can monitor the queries in real time and check the performance of the databases. I work mostly with CSV files and it's very easy to export those kind of files to a table in any oracle database. Current version is 12c and is getting a lot of features with current updates.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The interface is kind of old from my perspective. There are plenty of tools than can connect to oracle but SQL developer still have more advantages over the others and that is why I still using Oracle SQL Developer most of the time.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

Try to find as much information as possible in all oracle forums.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Connect to any oracle instance and develop PLSQL into the IDE, we got all the tools wee need to work and develop in a most efficient environment debugging our code properly according to the best practices.

  ### 28. Great client for Oracle database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giuseppe C. | Full stack developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Sqldeveloper is a great software for Oracle db. It Is Easy to install and to use, very stable, and has a clean graphic interface. I have ever used sql developer as client for Oracle Databases.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

I had some problems using last version with console log in SQL procedure and I had ti install 4.2 version

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

If you have problems with console log and Oracle 10g, use sqldeveloper 4.2 version

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use It everyday to test all of the queries that I use during software development. I use a lot the SQL tuning to improve efficiency of my queries

  ### 29. Oracle SQL Developer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Basweshwar V. | IT Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Organized user interface. Easy to hands on. It gives the suggestions when we typing the query it helps to speed up your job done. Also process the queries very fast.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Actually every software has some disadvantages like as sometimes loading the databases may take long time. But it happens very rarely.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

For smooth and efficient database oracle SQL Developer is very useful.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use the Oracle developer to integrate with cordys OpenText BPM tool.

  ### 30. SQL Developer is usable but looks and feels like an application from 15 years ago

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

It's really easy to duplicate connection details; we have a lot of databases that follow similar patterns, and the ability to open one you already know is correct, change the details slightly and re-save is very convenient and means I don't spend a lot of time trying to find some small typo.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The user interface isn't very intuitive, and I often have to hover over buttons to figure out what they're supposed to do. I tend to stick to only a few of them because I don't always know what kind of side-effects will take place if I click the wrong thing. It also uses more RAM and CPU than I would expect since most of the heavy lifting should be taking place in the database itself.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving problems with unexpected data is much easier to do when you're viewing and editing with SQL Developer as opposed to the Java applications that we ultimately use our databases with.

  ### 31. OracleSQL developer review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2019

This is one of the most helpful and easiest data tool available. the connections have been pretty fast and I never has issues with any sql queries ever, unless they are wrong, lol. I would recommend this to any

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Sometimes, it doesnt tell you why some queries does not work, promoting me to run it the second time to get to result.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

go for it, this is one of the pain free data too you can use.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have never faced any software issues using the Oracle SQL developer.

  ### 32. The best backend tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** villa s. | Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Sql developer is one of the best back end tool which helps in inserting updating deleting and managing data. It helps to store data for a long time without losing it. It can be used for various purposes like in shopping malls etc...to manage daily profit calculations. We can also create schemas tables that help in storing data

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

When a long query is executed the developer gets hanged very quickly. It can't handle some exceptions.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

One of the best back end tool but not for big data. Go for it.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been working on siebel since 2 years. It helped me build relations between tables and using joins to store data.

  ### 33. Good software for database handling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2019

The best about SQL Developer is the ability to do anything and everything with databases. From creating tables, keys, constraints to restricting the access to the data, everything can be handled.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

It is too slow when it starts and takes a long time in loading the first time.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our whole database system is handled using SQL Developer. From the admin who gives access and privileges to the developers who use the data everyone uses this tool.

  ### 34. Great product for SQL developers out there

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhigyan S. | Book Author, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Probably one of the best SQL applications out there with a pretty good UI. Auto complete queries, debugging and pinning the previous SQL result before running a new one works wonders when you want to compare the results of two queries in the same tab.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Tends to get a bit slow sometimes. Also, I have experienced losing my saved connections a lot of time when restarting the application and had to reconfigure the connections.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Writing stored procedures and functions.

  ### 35. The best database management tool i have ever used.

  ### 36. Good software with a few niggles

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter W. | Test Engineering Specialist, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Easy to make connections and run SQL statements, good user interface.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Has a short timescale before it needs to reset, its generally around 10minutes and then youve got to wait for the conenction to reset. This can often be annoying when you're moving between different applications in order to validate data etc.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes it far easier to manage multiple databases than using command line

  ### 37. Good tool for database browsing and administration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

It's a fantastic free tool supported by Oracle to allow you to manage all most all aspects of an oracle database. We usually encourage our development teams to try this first before they can go for commercial software. So far this has proved quite useful.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The user interface is not very intuitive, color scheme and icon selecting is also very ambiguous. I would have personally appreciate a sqlplus type interface window which will allow you to run multiple queries and record the result sequentially for problem analysis but overall its quite good.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

There is no cost so this should be your first option when looking for a database explorer tool.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Presentation of oracle database , browsing and presentation of data, tables and columns to the users. General database admin for developers.

  ### 38. Useful tool for quick database maintenance

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

Drilling down into schemas is relatively simple, with a tree structure that makes navigation in multiple schema very easy and intuitive. Being able to modify tables directly rather than having to use SQL each time is also a plus.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

It's very awkward to bring up multiple tables in the view pane. The tabs are unimodal, so if you bring up a data view in one table and then want to look at another table, the tab is overwritten with the new table data. There is some sort of split window functionality but it's very unintuitive to use.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use SQL Developer to quickly view and change data in tables without having to resort to tools such as sqlplus to accomplish this.

  ### 39. Better programs out there

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diana W. | Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

I like being able to filter tables and sorting columns once opening a table. SQL Developer allows for helping me view and export database structures which is very helpful. On the plus side, it is easy to start for new developers and making connections is easy.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

I do not like how to writer queries in oracle nor do I like how low it is. SQL server is so much better than SQL developer. Writing queries in SQL developer is frustrating. The join sequence is weird to optimize queries. I also really with it was better helping identifying syntax errors. The query editor is not that great. The software is slow, locks up all of the time and crashes. I often get a black screen and have to force close the program.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using SQL developer to connect to OFSAA – Oracle Financial Services Analytical Application. Both are Oracle hence why we use SQL Developer. I could also use TOAD if I wanted. I have not noticed any benefits of SQL developer over TOAD.

  ### 40. Super helpful DB tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

I enjoy the ability to visually open, view and edit Oracle Data Bases

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

I wish that I could open multiple tables inside the same database to visually review and compare multiple tables.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

This is a great tool for a non-programmer to jump right into to get started in viewing/editing SQL. Additionally, it is powerful enough to continue to be useful after you move past the graphical UI.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we have to troubleshoot or dig deeper into bug in how we are storing or writing data, this makes it quick and easy to get in to the database to troubleshoot and/or fix.

  ### 41. Good free tool for Oracle Database query development.

It takes a while to load and can be confusing to install as it relies on Java and does not include a formal product installer.

**Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:**

It is a good tool to write queries and execute against Oracle databases.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows me to directly query Oracle databases and analyze the data. It is cheaper than several other sql query tools.
