It's easy to debug the packages written by Plsql code, and also it allows to control of the oracle database in configurations + monitoring using $ tables.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Eventually, the debugger might hang while debugging the packages if the package has thousands of lines. However, it can be done using the debug points rather than going through the line by line in the code.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Investigate the ORA errors in the PLSQL packages, evaluate the code performance, gather statistics, create and modify the table indexes, and add autonomous traces to the packages to track the data flow.

  ### 10. Oracle SQL Developer - Best tool for oracle data manipulation work.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2022

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

As my primary skill was Oracle SQL, PLSQL, I mainly used SQL developer for Oracle data retrieval, insertion, and updation work. Now-a days just data retrieval is not useful, so performance tuning is playing a key role in any company and this tool has an inbuilt feature of explain plan which I mostly used for query tuning.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The downside of SQL developer is that when you export data into any file with a million rows, it takes longer to export and sometimes hangs. Another thing is that if an export operation is going on and you want to cancel that activity, this tool is not that user-friendly.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With the help of SQL Developer, we solved data uploading from file to table, export operation, migration, and data correction problems. The benefit we have got from SQL developers is that we have built a lot of MIS reports, tuned a lot of SQL queries, and done PLSQL coding to solve complex business requirements.

  ### 14. Best IDE to talk with Oracle Databases

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ronit N. | Senior Application Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2021

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

To summarize, the most likable features of Oracle SQL Developer :

1. Clear, crisp, and concise UI. Minimalist UI makes SQL developer a beginner's friendly IDE for SQL and PL/SQL developers.
2. Connection manager enables the user to manage, create and delete database connections.
3. The connections are portable in XML or JSON format. And to export and share the database connections, we need not share the connection password, and we can encrypt the connection files with an encryption password.
4. Multi-tab query feature. In a SQL developer, we can open multiple tabs (SQL worksheets), we can develop multiple queries at the same time.
5. Supports Oracle NoSQL connections.
6. Easy to debug code with the "Message Log" feature.
7. Open source and available for free. Just one needs to create a free oracle account, all of which is free of any cost, and no Credit card is required.
8. Best IDE to write PL/SQL code blocks, although Oracle has a PL/SQL developer, developers prefer SQL developer to write / developer / manage PLSQL code blocks (Package/Procedure/Functions).

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

There are a few points, which I would like Oracle to improve about the SQL developer, those are :
1. The Software is resource-intensive. I have seen machines with less than 4 GB of Ram struggle to run this software.
2. There is a limitation in the view of the result set. When a user drags down to scroll through the entire result set, it freezes after 20-30 rows of the result set.
3. If a connection is left unused for more than 10 minutes, the connection drops, and it resets, the transaction session is dropped.
4. With VPNs, SQL developer frequently drops the connection.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With the Oracle SQL Developer, we write SQL codes to generate reports about financial transactions. In SQL Developer, we run scripts that update data in the database, and we commit the changes with SQL Developer. To create automated database solutions, we write PLSQL blocks of code /update and maintain them in SQL Developer. Additionally, it's elementary and user-friendly, so we give introductory SQL lessons to new beginners in the SQL Developer IDE.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashutosh G. | Data Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2020

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

This is one of the most used tools in our organization we are mainly using it for creating tables and data sources. The user interface is amazing and it's very to understand and navigate. You can easily write a query and spool the data as per your requirement. Creating reports and dashboards are also very convenient and easy with SQL developers.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

There are some limitations like you cannot search more than 1000 records at a given time etc. But overall its the great tool.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With the help of this tool, we are able to develop various reconciliation between different data sources. We can easily create delete or modify any table as per the requirement. It's very secure and the query output generated is really fast within seconds.

  ### 36. An essential tool to manage our database

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

SQL Developer is the easiest and quickest way to see the data in the system. In addition to offering a complete and efficient service, it is free!

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The only negative point of SQL is the impossibility of implementing recursive processing.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s a great tool that has allowed us to standardize a database. We have also improved the processing of our data. We perform data analysis thanks to the queries utilizing a lot of joins.

  ### 37. It's complete, and it's free!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

What a tool like SQL Developer needs to do, it does... I'm used to TOAD and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL Developer in a lot of aspects outperforms these products. It's clean and highly intuitive, no learning curve required whatsoever.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

If you really push me to mention something negative, then I have to mention the fact that you can't easily navigate from and within stored procedures or any other object. Within TOAD you can very easily do this through shortcuts. Just write down the name of a stored procedure, and you can right click it, or use a shortcut to immediately go there. In SQL Developer I find myself too often scrolling to the stored procedure. I know... it's only a small discomfort. I'm not a power user (not a dba or stored procedure developer). I use this tool only for querying and looking up (and ORDS design). From what I hear from the "real" power users, they all prefer TOAD for the beforementioned reason.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use the tool to quickly query, to test sql statements in code, to check how and why some API's don't give me the expected result. Also closing blocking sessions in our organization, and sometimes database design. What I need is a fast and intuitive tool, that enables me to quickly solve bugs in any application that has some form of database connection. TOAD for that matter is too complex (and chaotic). SQL Developer is my friend.

  ### 38. Best DB manager and IDE tool for Oracle database and applications

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subrata G. | Technical Lead, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2021

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

SQL Developer, is available on multiple platforms, Windows Mac Linux and Oracle doesn't charges a penny for it. So, SQL Developer is best suited for a big cross functional globally based team. SQL Developer is less resource intensive, compared to other IDEs. SQL Developer has the capability to manage and develop Oracle Database in both on premise and Cloud deployments. SQL Developer can also connect and interact with non oracle database like IBM db2,MS Sql server and MySQL etc. Its installation package is available in two formats, one is normal exe and other portable zip compressed file. And it gives session management console, which is lacking in many other competitor's product.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

The output window shows very less number of data records at a time, and scrolling with mouse in the output screen, makes the SQL Developer freeze and it starts struggling. SQL Developer at times, consumes too much of memory and RAM. Ideally a machine should have at least 8 Gb of Ram. Connections import and export is bit tricky, older versions supported xml and new versions support json. So updating the SQL Developer may be a bit clumsy if you overlook this fact.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We the Oracle application developers team use SQL Developer to develop, PL/SQL code for our customer. PL/SQL developer is bit clumsy, while SQL Developer is very clean and hassle free to maintain and develop PL SQL codes. The database administrators and cloud admins use this SQL Developer console to manage connections and database users to the environment. Training new joiners is also done in SQL Developer.

  ### 39. SQL Developer Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vineeth V. | Assistant Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2021

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

User Friendly, Easy to write complex queries, fast search, and retrieval of results

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

Extracting the retrieved data to an excel or CSV takes a long time. If you have any project that needs to pull a lot of data in excel, this tool is not advisable.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I perform data analysis by filtering the search results of queries utilizing a lot of joins. It has mainly benefited by providing significant time savings.

  ### 40. Oracle Sql Developer Tool Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2021

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

1. Lightweight Application, doesn't take much time to start.
2. Many people think that oracle SQL Developer GUI is a bit old, but I personally feel that its easy to understand and work with.
3. SQL Developer tool automatically recognizes the syntax tags and highlights them in different color which provides good understandable representative look. As well as it always prompts the syntax/table/column names while typing any query.
4. As it's easy to know how many rows and tables will be affected after performing certain operations on database, it makes a good tool for both development and testing purpose.
5. By the help of this tool, you can import or export the data very easily.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

1.Oracle SQLDeveloper Tool doesn't automatically resets connection. If you've half done your work today and tomorrow you want to continue the same then you have to again choose the connection or continuously refresh it else it'll give error message.
2. If you don't know the status of query and if query is taking too much time to respond, it shows the status as RUNNING whereas in reality the query may have hung up. It should provide clear message of query status whether it's running or stuck in between. And this happens many times with me.
3. You can't simultaneously run multiple queries of a single database connection. You have to wait for successful execution of first query, then only it'll move ahead to execute next query in the line.
4. Instead of showing only the error at line, more simplified message should be provided to address the error.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. By just clicking on the table name, you can know all the information about table such as dependencies, triggers, constraints.
2. You can provide comments/ instructions to show what certain column values will mean.
3. By clicking on minimize button on the left hand side at the start of the query, you can provide better understanding view and give more space to output section.

**What do you like best about SQL Developer?**

I like the layout of the application, buttons, menus on my first use it was not difficult to find me. The shortcuts I use a lot, have a lot of customization tools and have added a lot to me.

**What do you dislike about SQL Developer?**

I had a problem with a table with Clob of the system (passes up to 8 thousand characters) sometimes in the select it hangs even bringing less data. I even did a test that ran only the developer and passed, so I believe it is something from my memory, but I could have some feedback from this freeze. I already did a test and left the application open and 1 hour went by without response.

**What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Anything that is a business problem, because I use this tool as my main tool.

  ### 44. User Experience of Sql Development Tools
