The deep dive diagnostic capabilities what AppD offers is simply the best considering the fact that it covers the complete stack (APM, database monitoring, Browser/Mobile End User Monitoring, Infrastructure/server level monitoring, network) as well as the ability to monitor the latest technologies in the market via AppD extensions. **What do you dislike about Splunk AppDynamics?** No centralized license management server - we have multiple instances of AppD set up onpremise but then due to the absence of centralized AppD license management server, we had to shuffle/swap the licenses as per our need and we need to apply individually on those on-premise instances. **Recommendations to others considering Splunk AppDynamics:** Very simplistic tool which provides great value add for the application dev and testing teams to deep into what is causing the application performance issues and to have good analytics visualization for the business/executive leadership to have the holistic view on what is happening on the application. The out of the box features allow you to quickly view a lot of data about your application which you do not have access to otherwise. **What do you dislike about Splunk AppDynamics?** A better user experience can be provided on the dashboard creation. From my experience you can create great dashboards but then a user creating the dashboard should be well versed with the tool as well as know details about their own application in order to create a impressive dashboard. Some of the custom metric widgets on dashboards are not that email friendly and can be enhanced to provide a better configuration ability. **What problems is Splunk AppDynamics solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are mainly looking for bottlenecks within our application and trying to identify the most expensive backend calls. Straight forward agent installation on systems and add it as part of JVM process. Auto environment connectivity detection I great. It is relatively easy to monitor the server side and client side performance metrics. Support for multiple platforms is a great feature. Troubleshooting is much easier with AppDynamics compare to our legacy monitoring tools. We have integrated with load testing tools such as Load Runner and it was a breeze. the level of detailed insights is rich and meaningful. Single pane of glass makes operations much easier along with agentless monitoring. **What do you dislike about Splunk AppDynamics?** The product is economically challenged. Also, currently no automated agent management/upgrades for every agent type. Learning curve could be steep depending on existing skillsets. Some configuration could make it harder to filter signal from the noise. Flex coded developed applications can pose additional challenges. **Recommendations to others considering Splunk AppDynamics:** The market for enterprise monitoring tools is rich and competitive. There are a large number of players both small and large. As always, do your due diligence and make sure your selection meets your requirements and use case. Just because it worked well for us don't mean it will be the case for others.
