Spirelight Transcription is a web app for turning recorded interviews into text that can be checked, quoted and analysed. It is built for university students who write a thesis with interviews, and for researchers who work with qualitative data. Users upload an audio or video file (MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4 and other audio formats, up to 1 GB), choose the language of the recording or let it be detected, and receive a draft transcript with automatic speaker labels and a timestamp at each change of speaker. The draft is corrected in the browser next to a built-in player. Renaming a speaker changes the name throughout the document, which makes pseudonyms simple. Finished transcripts export to Word, plain text or SRT subtitles. Quotes can be marked and coded in the same project, and optional AI summaries and a chat work on the transcripts. For interviews that are not recorded yet, the app can host a browser call. The participant signs a consent form before recording starts, and the recording becomes a transcript in one click. The website, sign-up, billing and emails are available in Danish, English, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, French, Spanish, Polish and Finnish. The editor is in English. Transcription runs in the US, with an EU backup, and files and transcripts are stored in the US. New accounts get 1 hour free after confirming their email address, with no card. After that, transcription costs €2 per audio hour, or €14 a month for Spirelight Plus with 20 hours. Visitors can also try 5 minutes of their own recording without an account.
