I think largely that is because I had a great Leave Specialist. **What problems is Sparrow solving and how is that benefiting you?** My company uses Sparrow for our leave benefits, in particular I utilized it for leave related to having my baby. This is my first child and I was overwhelmed thinking about work and leave. My Leave Specialist was able to walk me through everything and using the website was super easy as well. I was able to give birth and prepare for my leave without the additional stress of paperwork and submitting claims everywhere. This was essential for me. ### 2. The representatives were kind and pleasant to talk to. **What do you dislike about Sparrow?** There were a few headaches with having to duplicate what I sent to Sparrow and what I had to send to insurance: insurance was on my case about getting documentation, so I had to forward it to both sparrow and my own insurance, which is weird. They also didn't tell me I could take sick days to cover the first 5 days of no coverage; I have a feeling these agents are trained in the US, and don't have as much context on Canadian insurance and employment policies. **What problems is Sparrow solving and how is that benefiting you?** It reduced a lot of ambiguity when going on a medical leave. ### 3. They took a ton of work off of my plate. It was great! **What do you dislike about Sparrow?** There are some things that require your personal attention during the leave process, so it's impossible for Sparrow to fully take it off of your hands. It can be hard, sometimes, to come up to speed on what has been done so far when those moments happen; creating more work for you to investigate because you were not involved up to that point. **What problems is Sparrow solving and how is that benefiting you?** The time consuming nature of engaging with both government agencies and internal HR to go on parental leave. Sparrow did all the paperwork and handled communications. Very nice. ### 7. I worked 1:1 with a Sparrow support member who met wtih me virtually to review the leave process, letting me know all the information she needed from me to submit leave papers on my behalf. Other than confirming my leave dates when they happened, I didn't have to worry about sending any documentation to my state's paid leave. **What do you dislike about Sparrow?** I found some of the initial instructions to be confusing and had to clarify and ensure that they made sense for my state. Additionally, I had to follow up with them when I didn't initially get paid my family leave benefit. I wish they had checked and looked into it. **What problems is Sparrow solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sparrow is working as my agent to handle the logistics of my leave. They benefit both my HR team who can outsource the work to Sparrow and benefit me since I can work with a dedicated indibidual who knows this process well and will file all the paperwork on my behalf. ### 9. Receiving nudges, updates, and inquiries about not only the status of the filed claim, but also the check-ins about personal well-being have made the process less daunting and lonely. I truly feel like there is someone always there to answer questions and provide any support I might need. Very easy to setup the portal and to check on the estimated payment frequency and amounts during the period of disabilitiy. **What do you dislike about Sparrow?** As with everything involving communication b/w doctors and insurance, it sometimes feels like like a black box as to who needs to be contacted regarding each aspect of the process when multiple forms need to be signed and transferred b/w parties. Adding a third party (Spraoow) into this mix feels like it complicates the process at points and and others, I am not sure what it is that Sparrow is actually helping me with...I am a very resourceful person, so I feel like I could have navigated some aspects of this process myself without the need for additional communication / required supplemental paperwork with Sparrow when I was already being forced to wrangle cats b/w doctor's office and insurance companies. **What problems is Sparrow solving and how is that benefiting you?** I guess it feels like it is there to outsource and simplify the process for business HR departments in order to have a dedicated staff to provide resources and support to their employees (first and foremost) and be a life line throughout the process for employees (secondary) ### 10. They made it simple and took care of almost everything on my behalf to get prepared, and then were there to answer any questions I had during leave and coming back to work. **What do you dislike about Sparrow?** I didn't experience any downsides in using Sparrow. **What problems is Sparrow solving and how is that benefiting you?** Without Sparrow I had no idea what I needed to do to get my leave scheduled or what that process even looked like. Since then, I haven't heard back from my main point of contact, even though my leave is in the next few weeks. It would be great to have additional details on the site on what Sparrow covers in particular vs. what would be my responsibility. Easy to communicate, easy to use. No extraneous steps on my end, which is important with baby on the way/newly arrived. **What do you dislike about Sparrow?** Nothing, it was fine. I thought it was a little odd when I was dealing with a third party vs my employer, but the experience was so easy that the minor inconvenience of creating an account and downloading another app was overruled. The phrasing of "how likely to recommendto a friend" is bad because I would never recommend any "absence management software" to a friend.
