Setup was a breeze, the interface is super intuitive, and our data has never felt safer. Backups run seamlessly in the background without slowing anything down. Highly recommend it to any team looking for a reliable and hassle-free backup solution! **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** Spanning Backup is overall a solid tool, but there's room for improvement. The reporting dashboard could be more detailed and easier to read at a glance. Also, the initial configuration can feel a bit overwhelming for new users — a more guided onboarding experience would go a long way. Would love to see more granular restore options as well! **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** The retention with full retention when licence is active. Restores tend to be pretty straight forward unless you need to get like an entire mailbox. **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** Kaseya ruined this. The way licenses are modified was supposed to be better but it does not let you update it right in the moment where I found myself needing to come back to it to update the license whenever the system decided to recognized that users were removed. **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is an easy to use SaaS backup for both Microsoft and google workspace. The old system we used was a nightmare to manage the licenses and this makes it much easier and super easy for clients to access if they need to ### 3. After the initial configuration, it runs quietly in the background with minimal administration, which gives me peace of mind that our important Microsoft 365 data is protected. It has been consistently dependable and needs very little day-to-day attention, allowing us to stay focused on other priorities. **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** I don’t have any specific concerns or major drawbacks to point out. The platform reliably does what it’s meant to do, and it doesn’t demand much day-to-day attention from me. If anything, future improvements would probably be best directed toward the overall user experience and better visibility, rather than fixing any significant issues. **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before Spanning Backup, we did not have a dedicated backup solution for Microsoft 365. Spanning helps close that gap by ensuring critical data is protected and recoverable, reducing business risk and providing additional peace of mind in the event of data loss or security incidents. ### 4. It is reliable and easy to manage. The daily backup review page is nice to see successes and failures for each assigned account. Shared Mailbox backups are also a nice addition, as multiple hands in a shared account make for missing email more often than with personal accounts. **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** I would prefer an option to choose a single .PST file if my ISP bandwidth will allow for backing up user email upon exit such as terminations or resignations. It currently breaks these up <10gb .pst files and makes for a bit of a hassle to load the files into Outlook and review them if required. **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** Originally we needed a new backup solution for on prem Exchange when we offloaded it to the cloud. Previously our on-prem Exchange environment was backed up locally and offsite with Unitrends. When we migrated email to the cloud, we were no longer able to utilize the current backup solution. This has remained a solid solution and the interface has hardly changed over the years. ### 5. Unlike many backup platforms that try to protect everything from servers to virtual machines and cloud infrastructure, Spanning focuses primarily on protecting SaaS data such as: * Microsoft 365 * Google Workspace * Salesforce That focus makes it very easy to understand, deploy, and manage. **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** From my perspective, my concerns would not be about the product’s reliability, but rather about its scope and strategic fit. 1. It only solves part of the backup problem This is by far the biggest limitation. Spanning protects SaaS data such as: * Microsoft 365 * Google Workspace * Salesforce It does not protect: * Servers * Virtual machines * Workstations * Network devices * On-premises applications Impact: You still need another backup and disaster recovery solution for the rest of the IT environment. **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems Spanning Backup Solves 1. Accidental deletion of business-critical data Problem: Employees accidentally delete emails, files, Teams conversations, SharePoint documents, contacts, or calendar items. The product itself is not bad but inferior to their sister product backupify. The developers are nonresponsive to troubleshooting issues and they are a mess. It took months to get integral actions addressed and it does not seem that there is much if any organization and project management going on. ### 7. I use it all of the time as my primary backup software ever since I stumbled upon it. I feel like their customer support is well organized and relatively easy to get ahold of for someone who is not tech savvy and is learning how to work with SaaS. I have integrated Spanning Backup with my Salesforce and my Microsoft 365 accounts. In my opinion, I believe that Spanning Backup is easy to implement for any type of user. **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** Thus far, I have found no major faults whilst working with Spanning Backup. **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** For me, Spanning Backup has solved problems such as recovering my data as well as backing my data up on my cloud storage through automation, and I am benefiting from Spanning Backups services because not only is everything efficient, but also positively affecting my work. ### 9. You never truly know how effective a backup system is until you face a crisis or experience data loss. Unfortunately, my company did encounter such a situation, but fortunately, we were able to use Spanning Backup’s recovery feature, and it worked flawlessly! Recovering our backed up data was simple and intuitive, and I am extremely grateful for this software. The implementation process was straightforward, and integrating it with our Microsoft tenant was easy. Additionally, the system allows you to scale effortlessly as your company grows. **What do you dislike about Spanning Backup?** One limitation for our use case is that Spanning Backup is a cloud-only solution and does not support backing up Microsoft 365 data directly to on-premises storage (NAS). Since we have a NAS in our server room, having an option for local or hybrid backups for certain datasets would be a nice addition. While this does not impact the reliability of the cloud backup itself, it would be nice for organisations (like ours in Germany) that require local copies as part of their backup or compliance strategy. **What problems is Spanning Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** Spanning Backup solves the limitations of Microsoft 365’s native data retention and recovery by providing independent, reliable backups with granular restore options. A key benefit for us is that backup data can be stored in EU-based data centers, which is essential for our GDPR and data protection requirements.
