It sometimes cannot or does not support certain complex tax rules or tax legislations from specific states. They compile and file the tax returns based each states due date. We are understaffed to be able to research each tax situation and collect all the data to do the filing. The experience has been really great. We still have the detailed help guides that Booke had, but there is additional features that we didn't have before, like being able to import PDFs into the software (we do our footnotes in a separate word document and then conver to PDF), and also the ability to export and import excel files of different schedules and make edits as necessary (such as Schedule F). They also have good customer support, and are helpul in answers questions that we have in a timely manner. I just think overall it has all the benefits fo the Booke software, but builds on it with additional new features that enhance the overall experience. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** Coming from the Booke software, I think the Sovos validation checks is a little bit more confusing to follow. I am starting to understand it overall as I have used Sovos for about 3 years, but it just seemed more complicated on how to run it, as well as how to follow the trail, compared to the Booke software (at least at first). It can take a little bit of time to run PDFs of the statements to review outside of the system, but overall I don't have any dealbreakers that would make me switch to a different platform. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** It makes our reporting very efficient and easy to meet our regular deadline involving reporting. ### 9. We use this feature on a daily basis. When it comes to uploading and doing a mass check on TINs we get very little errors when processing 1099s. When processing 1099s the Sovos team is very responsive when we have questions or issues. The product is a web based product so we can access it from anywhere and the implementation was very smooth. I would highly recommend their services. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** I wish Sovos would send a curtisey email at the beginning of the year with the instructions on how to upload information into their system for 1099s. It also shows line item tax compared to the native NetSuite taxes. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** We have been in the implementation process since July 22 with a projected go live date of October 22. It is now almost April 23 and not completed. We installed the software into our NetSuite production account in December and are still spending hours manually doing taxes internally even though we pay for their services to file on our behalf. This has been nothing but a headache. Sovos is easy to use because of the simple navigation and UI. The upsides to using Sovos are convenience and having a neat way to integrate important documents into your accounting system. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** I primarily use Sovos for Resale Certificates. The only problems I encounter when adding an account to Sovos are if I make a mistake when entering the state, I have to change the expiration date to get it to wipe that entry. If I want to add multiple new accounts at the same time, I have to open a new tab to accomplish it; the website does not allow me to back out and start from scratch quickly. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sovos allows our accounting software to automatically update the tax totals on our sales orders. This benefits me tremendously; having to do this manually would be unthinkably time-consuming. ### 26. It was my first time trying this software, and I was impressed with how many ways there are to load the information. The best part is that you can work your financials in an excel workbook and import them in Sovos within seconds. You can also import PDFs. You can copy the previous statement or create a new one. It's just so easy and flexible. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** So far, I can't say anything wrong about the software. The customer service has also been great. Every time I had an issue, I would get help within 1 hour from them. This makes it a great platform and a great company. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sovos is the software we use for the statutory statements. I can map it directly from the TB and prepare the statements in a day. They are done timely and my rep is very responsive and easy to work with. Regarding their technical help, at least one tech is excellent to work with and will solve most issues, if I can connect with him. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** The initial set up was very costly, with our company being charged every time we called for assistance or were ready to set up new state jurisdiction. This was above and beyond the initial fee. Also, we use Net Suite and the two systems (Sovos GTD and NetSuite) are not working well together in identifying those clients that are tax exempt and have exemption certificates loaded, requiring us to manually override any transactions to suppress sales tax. There is also an issue with SOVOs over riding the tax calculation made by our retail web site, changing the Cash Receipt with it is imported into NS, causing it to not match the initial sale $'s on our website. The difference is usually pennies, but it does cause reconciliation problems **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeps our system tax rate calculation current with state changes for better compliance, time savings when they file our returns with the states and ease of reporting regarding sales tax for each state and jurisdiction. ### 28. He's calm, logical and very, very patient. His support has been invaluable in the time that I have been working on issues. I think the biggest one is because the cloud solution on the Sovos side was set up for cloud ERP, at our request. When we stayed with our on prem ERP, the Sovos set up, think, remained as if we were cloud ERP. I can understand why. It just caused some issues in the past. Now we know to tell everyone that we're different when we ask for support. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sovos calculates the sales and use tax for us. That means that we don't have to keep up with the constant tax changes as Sovos does this. The various reports to support the tax returns are helpful (File Analysis Report and Tax Filing Report). The online message exchange also resulted in very quick responses to questions and requests for clarifications. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** Experience is mostly excellent and helpful in routine and in troubleshooting. One downside is resolving overestimated payments and adding new states resulting in overpayments or underpayments. The negative aspects of wrong payments is then confirming the application of overpayments to future month filings or incurring penalties for miscalculated liabilities that result in penalties that Sovos do not help to pay though it seems we pay for the services to avoid penalties. The other bad experience that was eventually resolved was a technical issue where the data file we submitted at month-end was resulting in duplicate data causing a much higher liability than the actual data supported. That took several months to resolve and may not have been Sovos's fault but I remember the Technology group expressing some frustration in getting the issue resolved (I am not part of the IT team). Adding Illinois as a new State to pay taxes to even though another Headwater entity pays tax there has been complicated. We pay quarterly and the first payment we made missed one of the accrued months, then when the missing accrued month was paid in the very next quarter the payment was duplicated so now we have a prepayment for the next quarter to be tracked and properly applied. **Recommendations to others considering Sovos:** Be sure your IT team has good communication channel with Sovos IT team to address technical issues for file communications and proper access levels across various support personnel in your company that may need limited access. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sovos does provide a way to add new territories to file taxes in if we choose to add new territories in new states. Sovos does provide a good communication channel to address questions before returns are filed. There are several reports generated monthly that provide opportunities to review data and raise possible questions before the filing is due. There is a redundancy of personnel at Sovos n case the account manager will be out of the office during any month while the filing process is occurring. ### 34. We work with a large amount of exemption certificates that the credit department was manually dealing with until we started using SOVOS. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** It seems like the Cert Manager platform is still evolving to meet customer requirements. The email system could be better. If you could directly connect via API to email links to your customer list, the tool would be a lot more efficient for our credit department. Right now, uploading certs can be a very manual process. I'd like to see this improved in the future. I also wish I had more control over the users. Anytime I need to add or make changes I have to open a case, even as the administrator on the account. **Recommendations to others considering Sovos:** Sovos is a big company, so unless you are paying extra for a support plan after implementation, know that you will be dumped into a case management file if you have issues. They have also made API changes without alerting us that we had to troubleshoot ourselves.
