Also coding and categorizing needs may not match products exactly. They compile and file the tax returns based each states due date. We are understaffed to be able to research each tax situation and collect all the data to do the filing. The experience has been really great. We still have the detailed help guides that Booke had, but there is additional features that we didn't have before, like being able to import PDFs into the software (we do our footnotes in a separate word document and then conver to PDF), and also the ability to export and import excel files of different schedules and make edits as necessary (such as Schedule F). They also have good customer support, and are helpul in answers questions that we have in a timely manner. I just think overall it has all the benefits fo the Booke software, but builds on it with additional new features that enhance the overall experience. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** Coming from the Booke software, I think the Sovos validation checks is a little bit more confusing to follow. I am starting to understand it overall as I have used Sovos for about 3 years, but it just seemed more complicated on how to run it, as well as how to follow the trail, compared to the Booke software (at least at first). It can take a little bit of time to run PDFs of the statements to review outside of the system, but overall I don't have any dealbreakers that would make me switch to a different platform. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** It makes our reporting very efficient and easy to meet our regular deadline involving reporting. ### 9. The last 2 years have not been the case. We have used their system for quite a few years for tax reporting. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our 1099s are filed thru Sovos - once uploaded and approved by me, they take care of the rest. They mail the forms to our vendors and file with the IRS on our behalf. Price is very reasonable compared with other products. ### 11. We use this feature on a daily basis. When it comes to uploading and doing a mass check on TINs we get very little errors when processing 1099s. When processing 1099s the Sovos team is very responsive when we have questions or issues. The product is a web based product so we can access it from anywhere and the implementation was very smooth. I would highly recommend their services. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** I wish Sovos would send a curtisey email at the beginning of the year with the instructions on how to upload information into their system for 1099s. This would cover any changes that have been made and would be convient to have in case we have new people or can't locate what was used from a previous year. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is reducing the amount of time spent processing 1099s and making sure our vendor setups match with the IRS database. ### 12. Sovos is easy to use because of the simple navigation and UI. The upsides to using Sovos are convenience and having a neat way to integrate important documents into your accounting system. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** I primarily use Sovos for Resale Certificates. The only problems I encounter when adding an account to Sovos are if I make a mistake when entering the state, I have to change the expiration date to get it to wipe that entry. If I want to add multiple new accounts at the same time, I have to open a new tab to accomplish it; the website does not allow me to back out and start from scratch quickly. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sovos allows our accounting software to automatically update the tax totals on our sales orders. This benefits me tremendously; having to do this manually would be unthinkably time-consuming. ### 21. It was my first time trying this software, and I was impressed with how many ways there are to load the information. The best part is that you can work your financials in an excel workbook and import them in Sovos within seconds. You can also import PDFs. You can copy the previous statement or create a new one. It's just so easy and flexible. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** So far, I can't say anything wrong about the software. The customer service has also been great. Every time I had an issue, I would get help within 1 hour from them. This makes it a great platform and a great company. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sovos is the software we use for the statutory statements. I can map it directly from the TB and prepare the statements in a day. I don't have a tax department, and we file returns in almost every state. If I receive a notice from a state regarding an error or payment deficiency, I send it to Sovos, and they do the research and correct the problem. I have a good working relationship with my sales tax preparer. In addition to the time savings, outsourcing the returns is less expensive than adding a full-time employee. I have been using this service since 2009 and over the years have had several sales tax audits. To date, I have not had an audit with any material findings. **What do you dislike about Sovos?** Occasional quirky system issues. For example, last month I could not run a transaction detail report. I will say that Tech Support has always been quick to solve any issues that I may encounter. **What problems is Sovos solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are in the process of moving from on-premise to the cloud. At the same time, we are installing an Oracle patch to replace the system transaction ID number with a customer invoice number on the monthly transaction report. Currently, I run the transaction detail and then send it to my IT department. IT then has to run an SQL query to match the system ID number to an invoice number. State governments empower local municipalities (cities and counties) to impose sales tax. On top of that, governments sometimes create special taxing districts where a sales tax rate may be imposed to fund particular community programs. Counties generally contain multiple cities and towns but cities can also straddle multiple counties (for example, Atlanta resides in both Fulton and DeKalb counties), and taxing districts can be created without any attention to city or county boundaries. Determining the proper state and local sales tax for a given address can only be accomplished through creating an extensive set of geo codes, each unique to a particular combination of state and local sales tax rates. I am registered with the IRS TIN matching program, so log in there is Sovos TIN matching isn't working. It's an extra step that I have to take, which I was looking forward to skipping when this program was first presented to me. **Recommendations to others considering Sovos:** I wish I would've found this program years ago.
