Email communication with reps was satisfactory. **What do you dislike about SourceForge?** $325 for the listing, and you get locked in if you forget to cancel within 10 days before the next billing period. We got 1-3 clicks a month for $325 compared to the 20-30 we would get from Capterra for the same price. Also, it defaults to Open Source software 1st unless you select the Commercial Tab... So its really only good for Open Source leads. **Recommendations to others considering SourceForge:** Use Capterra instead. **What problems is SourceForge solving and how is that benefiting you?** Couldn't cancel soon enough, too expensive, too little ROI. But there are a bunch of different download buttons which redirect you to downloading some junk software. **Recommendations to others considering SourceForge:** You should definitely try it. I find it more useful as it has to offer lots of useful features, such as Discussion Forums, Code Repository, Statistics of downloads, Issue tracking and many more. **What problems is SourceForge solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a part of running a business and developing software, it becomes difficult to maintain different projects and manage different versions of the software developed by our different developers. Sourceforge is also a great repository to download open-source software. When your problem is very specific and you do not want to invest heavy amount to buy a full version of a software. As a repository its really very help full. **What do you dislike about SourceForge?** Sometime, I found it's U.I confusing. It is an admirable goal. SourceForge was important to the open source movement for a long time, and hosted thousands of repositories for open source software. SourceForge holds nostalgic value for those users who hosted software on the site, found useful software, and read documentation. **What do you dislike about SourceForge?** The open source community has moved on. It is very rare for a new project to find itself on SourceForge with better modern alternatives like GitHub, BitBucket, and GitLab getting far more traffic. Everything about SourceForge feels dated now. The user interface hasn't had any significant improvement in many years, and it shows. A significant portion of the projects hosted there are out of date, or no longer supported. There are installers for software with malware included. SourceForge was a great resource once, but we have all moved on to greener pastures at this point. **Recommendations to others considering SourceForge:** SourceForge is no longer relevant. It is time to move on to a more modern solution like GitHub, BitBucket, or a private version control hosting solution. **What problems is SourceForge solving and how is that benefiting you?** At this point, I am not using SourceForge for any projects. Everything open source is on GitHub, and proprietary code is hosted on private version control hosting. SourceForge can still be a decent resource occasionally for older software, but, more often than not, the code and documentation found there is out of date. ### 14. Https support has been added and all bundled software have been removed. Malware can also be scanned and even better is the 2 factor authentication for your account. **What do you dislike about SourceForge?** Installing games can be cumbersome. When we downloaded a free Sudoku game, it took forever. Then when we uninstalled it and later found out that the hard drive was working really hard; which means the Sudoku downloader was still running. Still not clear what was going on there. **Recommendations to others considering SourceForge:** Yes I would recommend it . **What problems is SourceForge solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is a one stop shop for all software needs. So if ever I need a software tool, I go to sourceforge and install what I need. Saves a lot of time. ### 15. I use their services since 2003. One of the first of the kind and still hosts many projects. It has webpage hosting, source code versioning repository, issue management, file and release management, discussion list management. The service has a great number of mirrors to host the projects files. **What do you dislike about SourceForge?** Unfortunately it has been around for too many time without a revamp. Nowadays it feels outdated and needs too much effort, due to old UI and outdated working processes that are enforced on the projects. I have never used the private/corporate version, but it seems to be pretty similar to the open-source/public service that I used. Most of the projects I know migrated to GitHub and Bitbucket. On the last years, SourceForge started offering adware supported installers and suspicious software to be installed together with the files some of the projects were releasing. It seems that it is not prevalent anymore but demonstrates that the service is struggling to maintain its users and projects. **Recommendations to others considering SourceForge:** I would not use it on new projects, try looking for GitHub, Bitbucket, Amazon AWS private cloud source-code versioning services, Microsoft TFS (private and on cloud). All them will give you way more benefits. **What problems is SourceForge solving and how is that benefiting you?** I used it to publish open source projects. It was one of the first open-source hosting services available. My projects and the projects I contributed to had a great reach due to SourceForge services. Unfortunately it is outdated and projects migrated to GitHub and Bitbucket. ### 16. It has many features for projects, but no part of it stands out anymore. It is capable at what it does, but it's nothing special. It has been around for a long time, so i dont see it going anywhere for a long time. **What do you dislike about SourceForge?** The UI feels dated, and it doesnt particularly succeed at any one feature, instead choosing to do everything solidly. You wont love it, and you wont hate it. The UI feels kind of outdated. For a while, it was an adware infested pit, but the new owners have turned that around. **Recommendations to others considering SourceForge:** Look to Bitbucket or GitHub. **What problems is SourceForge solving and how is that benefiting you?** I published my first open source projects here, back when i needed a single system that did a little bit of everything. ### 17.
