"Security Heartbeat Delivers Synchronized, Proactive Network Protection"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

The best thing about this is the synchronized security through Security Heartbeat. It’s really great that the firewall can communicate with devices on the network and immediately stop any device from causing further problems. This can happen before the person in charge even needs to take any action. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

The web interface can be really slow, and saving complex rules can take a long time. I also found it hard to learn how to use the web interface in the first place. Setting up configurations like NAT rules or custom VPN zoning isn’t easy, and you often have to jump through different menus to get it done. That extra navigation makes it harder to troubleshoot and fix problems in day-to-day use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Sophos Central Orchestration Makes Managing Firewall, Endpoint, and APs Easy"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

I like Sophos orchestration; it’s very useful for administering my environment when I have Firewall, Endpoint, and AccessPoints. I also really like Sophos Central. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

I don’t like that the UI can be a bit slow sometimes. I’d rather use the CLI instead, but it would be great if the UI were enhanced again, like it was from the XG to XGS versions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fortifying Our Network with Ease and Robust Security"
5/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

I really like the user interface of the admin portal in Sophos Firewall because it allows for easy administration of the firewall. The sections are straightforward, and it's easy to identify what I'm looking for. I find the VPN tunnels feature particularly valuable as it allows us to interconnect multiple LANs across different physical locations, even in different countries, which is the case for us. It helps by granting access to all our users to have shared resources available, regardless of their location. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

The path of the URL for logging into the portal is confusing, making it hard to differentiate between the admin one and the one for email security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable and Easy-to-Manage Network Security with Sophos Firewall"
4/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

What I like best about Sophos Firewall is how easy it is to manage while still providing strong security features. Sophos Central makes it simple to monitor and manage our XGS116 firewall and access points from one place. The interface is clean, policies are easy to configure, and the reporting gives us good visibility into network traffic, users, and potential threats. It helps our team maintain strong network protection without making daily administration overly complicated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

There is very little to dislike about Sophos Firewall overall. The main drawback is that some advanced settings can take a little time to understand, especially for someone who is new to the Sophos ecosystem. A few reporting, policy, and configuration options may require extra tuning to get exactly right. However, once everything is properly set up, the firewall is stable, reliable, and easy to manage. "Sophos Firewall: Network Security Review & Recommendation"
5/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

In simple terms, here’s what I like best about Sophos Firewall:

1. Synchronized Security

The firewall talks directly to Sophos antivirus on your PCs. If a laptop gets infected, the firewall auto-isolates it before the virus spreads. They work as a team instead of separately.

2. One box does everything

Firewall, VPN, web filter, intrusion prevention, antivirus scanning. You don’t need to buy and manage 4 different appliances to cover the basics.

3. The dashboard actually makes sense

Traffic lights, graphs, and plain-English alerts. You can see threats, top users, and bandwidth hogs without digging through logs or being a network engineer.

4. Strong app control

Block or limit 3000+ apps like TikTok, torrents, crypto miners, or games with a few clicks. Helps keep the network safe and fast.

5. Good reporting built in

You get detailed reports on who did what, when, and how much data they used. Makes troubleshooting and compliance way easier.

Overall I like Sophos Firewall for its ease of management paired with strong security capabilities. The user-friendly web interface makes it simpler to configure security policies, monitor network activity, and troubleshoot issues when they come up. Overall, it offers a solid mix of security, reliability, visibility, and straightforward day-to-day administration.

The initial setup was relatively easy as well. The installation wizard and intuitive web-based management interface helped me complete the basic configuration without much hassle, including LAN and WAN settings, VPN configuration, security policies, and internet access options. On top of that, it integrates smoothly with Sophos Endpoint Protection, enabling synchronized security between the endpoint and the firewall for better threat detection and response. It also works well with Active Directory for user authentication and policy enforcement.

It combines antivirus, web filtering and VPN and IPsec Tunnel all in one menu. Everything in one place.

It's Synchronizes Security" feature talks to Sophos Antivirus on your computer. If a laptop gets infected the firewall automatically blocks it from spreading.

It shows you exactly who's using when and how much bandwidth. So, if the internet feels slow, you can see why in 5 seconds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

Ther are few dislike points about Sophos Firewall

1. Performance hit with all features on

Turn on full web filtering, IPS, antivirus, and SSL inspection on a small XGS model and your internet speed tanks. You usually need to buy bigger hardware than the spec sheet suggests.

2. Buggy firmware updates

New releases add features but sometimes break VPNs, web filtering, or HA. Lots of admins wait 1-2 months after release before updating production boxes.

3. Licensing is a maze

Base unit + Network Protection + Web Protection + Email Protection + Sandstorm + Central. Let one expire and that feature just dies. Tracking renewals is a pain.

4. Reporting lag

The real-time dashboards aren’t truly real-time. Traffic logs and reports can be 5-10 minutes behind, which hurts when you’re troubleshooting live issues.

Sophos Firewall is a strong and reliable security solution overall, though there are a few areas that could be improved. In my experience, it often requires additional training or access to technical experts to manage effectively. The reporting and log analysis features are comprehensive, but locating specific information within them can sometimes be time-consuming.

Real time traffic reports can take 5-10 minuets to show up.

If you are troubleshooting something right now, that delay is annoying.

It's solid overall, but it works best if you buy a model bigger than you think you need and keep license simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Sophos XDR Heartbeat Enables Strong User-Based Security"
5/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

We use Sophos Endpoint XDR on all of our workstations. This setup sends a heartbeat to the firewall that includes the currently logged-in user. The Sophos XGS Firewall can then use that heartbeat along with AD authentication to apply user-based policies and rules. This allows for greatly improved security and a form of conditional access—if the workstation doesn't have the Sophos XDR Protection, then heartbeats won't hit the firewall, and user based policies won't apply, limiting device access. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

We use both site-to-site IPSec tunnels and user SSL VPN connections. Both of them are hardcoded to the same VPN Zone for firewall rules. It would be nice if they were capable of being in different zones for firewall rules. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Sophos Integrations, Smooth 1 Gb Performance, and Great Value"
5/5
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

What initially attracted me was the integration with the other Sophos security products, which allows us to block endpoints that don’t meet specified criteria. While there is a learning curve, the user interface is still easy to navigate. We’ve been able to use all the firewall’s features without any slowdown in traffic over our 1 Gb Internet connection. We’ve been using Sophos firewall for 10+ years and are now on our third generation of firewall appliances. Overall, we’ve found the price attractive given the level of integration, which makes it a great value. The support provided by Sophos has also been thorough whenever we’ve had problems, which have mostly come down to administrator misconfiguration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

As with anything new, there is always a learning curve. But this is compensated by their support and supports willingness to explain things to us when an issue arrises. There are times whe we have noticed somthing being blocked when in th eoffice but not outside the office and not been able to find the cause of the blockage in the logs.
