What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?
In simple terms, here’s what I like best about Sophos Firewall:
1. Synchronized Security
The firewall talks directly to Sophos antivirus on your PCs. If a laptop gets infected, the firewall auto-isolates it before the virus spreads. They work as a team instead of separately.
2. One box does everything
Firewall, VPN, web filter, intrusion prevention, antivirus scanning. You don’t need to buy and manage 4 different appliances to cover the basics.
3. The dashboard actually makes sense
Traffic lights, graphs, and plain-English alerts. You can see threats, top users, and bandwidth hogs without digging through logs or being a network engineer.
4. Strong app control
Block or limit 3000+ apps like TikTok, torrents, crypto miners, or games with a few clicks. Helps keep the network safe and fast.
5. Good reporting built in
You get detailed reports on who did what, when, and how much data they used. Makes troubleshooting and compliance way easier.
Overall I like Sophos Firewall for its ease of management paired with strong security capabilities. The user-friendly web interface makes it simpler to configure security policies, monitor network activity, and troubleshoot issues when they come up. Overall, it offers a solid mix of security, reliability, visibility, and straightforward day-to-day administration.
The initial setup was relatively easy as well. The installation wizard and intuitive web-based management interface helped me complete the basic configuration without much hassle, including LAN and WAN settings, VPN configuration, security policies, and internet access options. On top of that, it integrates smoothly with Sophos Endpoint Protection, enabling synchronized security between the endpoint and the firewall for better threat detection and response. It also works well with Active Directory for user authentication and policy enforcement.
It combines antivirus, web filtering and VPN and IPsec Tunnel all in one menu. Everything in one place.
It's Synchronizes Security" feature talks to Sophos Antivirus on your computer. If a laptop gets infected the firewall automatically blocks it from spreading.
It shows you exactly who's using when and how much bandwidth. So, if the internet feels slow, you can see why in 5 seconds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?
Ther are few dislike points about Sophos Firewall
1. Performance hit with all features on
Turn on full web filtering, IPS, antivirus, and SSL inspection on a small XGS model and your internet speed tanks. You usually need to buy bigger hardware than the spec sheet suggests.
2. Buggy firmware updates
New releases add features but sometimes break VPNs, web filtering, or HA. Lots of admins wait 1-2 months after release before updating production boxes.
3. Licensing is a maze
Base unit + Network Protection + Web Protection + Email Protection + Sandstorm + Central. Let one expire and that feature just dies. Tracking renewals is a pain.
4. Reporting lag
The real-time dashboards aren’t truly real-time. Traffic logs and reports can be 5-10 minutes behind, which hurts when you’re troubleshooting live issues.
Sophos Firewall is a strong and reliable security solution overall, though there are a few areas that could be improved. In my experience, it often requires additional training or access to technical experts to manage effectively. The reporting and log analysis features are comprehensive, but locating specific information within them can sometimes be time-consuming.
Real time traffic reports can take 5-10 minuets to show up.
If you are troubleshooting something right now, that delay is annoying.
It's solid overall, but it works best if you buy a model bigger than you think you need and keep license simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
