## Sophos Firewall Reviews
  ### 1. Cloud-Managed, But Lacking Modern Network Management Improvements

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William E. | CIO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

Sophos Firewalls has two major advantages: it’s a cloud-managed firewall, and it provides good customer-facing reports.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

Sophos firewalls haven’t changed much in terms of functionality in years. The configuration may come with a newer UI, but underneath it still feels like the same basic firewall.

What’s been most frustrating for me is that there still isn’t a straightforward way to manage VoIP—an extremely common part of any modern network—without having to drop into the CLI backend and disable VoIP inspection. It ends up being an all-or-nothing setting: either it’s on or it’s off.

I’ve run into a similar limitation with DHCP options. Yes, the feature exists and it has been added, but it’s still very basic and doesn’t really support more modern management approaches for other devices, like Unifi APs.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We initially deployed Sophos Firewall because we needed a way to manage firewalls in remote geographic locations where we couldn’t dispatch a technician. It also provided customer reports that met our clients’ requirements, which was an important part of why we chose it.

  ### 2. Complete protection in a single device, simple management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

What I use daily is the Sophos Central dashboard: instead of connecting to the device and navigating through different menus, I have an overview of traffic, alerts, and policy status in a single screen, and this saves me several hours every week in monitoring activities. Managing firewall rules through the grouped policy system is much more organized compared to the endless lists we had before: finding and modifying a rule is a matter of seconds.

The feature that has changed my workflow the most is Zero-Day Protection with sandboxing: suspicious files are automatically analyzed before reaching users, so I no longer have to manually intervene on every dubious attachment. Similarly, the automatic reports on web traffic allow me to immediately identify abnormal behaviors without having to sift through logs line by line.

A benefit I didn't expect is the visibility that the reporting section offers on application usage: I discovered which services consumed the most bandwidth and was able to optimize the policies accordingly, with a tangible improvement in network performance. Even the DNS Protection, activated almost as a secondary function, proved to be extremely useful for blocking malicious domains upstream without any complex configuration.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

The limitation I have encountered the most is the absence of a proprietary app for multi-factor authentication with push notification, similar to Microsoft Authenticator. For MFA, one relies on third-party solutions or OTP/token codes, but the convenience of a simple push notification to approve with a tap, which users have become accustomed to with M365, is missing. It's a detail, but on such a comprehensive security product, one would expect an equally smooth and integrated authentication experience.

To this, I would add the overall cost, between the appliance and the annual renewal of the bundle, which is a significant investment for a small-sized company, and an initial learning curve that is not trivial, given the large number of options offered by the interface.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Here is a response built on the schema suggested by the form (before/after, with quantified benefits):

Before adopting the Sophos XGS 3200, our network security was fragmented: we had difficulty having a unified view of the traffic and managing the rules, which were scattered across different tools and with unclear reporting. Each check required consulting multiple sources, and log analysis was a manual and time-consuming activity.
After the implementation, we manage policies, monitoring, and reporting from a single console: we had difficulty quickly understanding what was happening on the network, but now we have the complete picture on a single screen, which has significantly reduced the time dedicated to daily monitoring — in our case, several hours a week. The management of rules, previously scattered, is now orderly and quick.
On the threat front, we previously had to manually intervene on suspicious files and attachments; now Zero-Day Protection with sandboxing automatically analyzes them before they reach users, reducing the risk of incidents and freeing the team from constant manual checks. Additionally, DNS Protection blocks malicious domains upstream without complex configurations.
The overall result is a more secure network and a more streamlined management: less time spent on repetitive tasks, greater visibility, and multi-layered protection that, for a small IT team like ours, makes a concrete difference in everyday work.

  ### 6. Comprehensive Firewall Protection for Our Business

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food Production | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

A comprehensive firewall that helps protect our business technology. Helps me to monitor our systems and provides me the tools through the Dashboard to get to the products I need to make changes and keep our systems secure

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

Sometimes it can be complicated to navigate through the menus to find what we need. When moving from the Dashboard to the section we’re trying to reach, it often takes going through multiple menus, which can slow down the process. While there are sometimes challenges with working through the menus the support system and help documentation does provide a good level of assistance.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Firewalls are essential to protecting our business, and Sophos meets our needs. In today’s business environment, it’s critical that operations continue to run and move forward without issues related to data security or bottlenecks caused by firewall software. Sophos keeps the process straightforward and doesn’t create roadblocks that would impact our users. Once Sophos is set up, it runs in the background, and while it requires monitoring, it doesn’t demand a great deal of intervention.

  ### 7. Impressive Performance and Seamless Native Integration with Sophos Tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Performing Arts | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

A real benefit for us is that it integrates into a platform that we use to manage other Sophos security tools. We previously had good integration for our non-Sophos firewall but made the decision to move to a Sophos firewall chiefly to gain from native integration. We experienced some minor issues with implementing but were able to find answers via support and documentation. We use a 10 GB circuit with this device and with all protection enabled the performance has been impressive.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

We found some of the video documentation somewhat off-putting when we would have liked to dive in for answers from traditional documentation. An improvement that we'd welcome would be comprehensive and easy to use migration tools - they are there but only partially helped us with migrating from another vendor. It's early days and we've not found issues with the config or UI.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before the Sophos firewall we had limited bandwidth capacity. We also had limited integration with other Sophos tools whereas now we have a single console with easier management as a result.

  ### 8. Easy to Maintain After Setup, Backed by Great Technical Support

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Import and Export | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

Once it’s set up, it’s easy to maintain. Technical support has been good and helpful whenever I’ve needed it. It also has enough power to scan all traffic and activity without causing delays.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

There’s a bit of a learning curve when it comes to figuring out where all the specific settings are. They aren’t always located where you’d expect, so it can take some digging at first. Plan to spend a little time customizing it to fit your environment. I suggest you use the very helpful technical support team.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maintaining strong security behind a reliable, high-quality firewall is very important for our company, and the Sophos firewall has been doing a good job for us. For a smaller company such as ours, some simplicity and AI assistance is very helpful.

  ### 9. Simple environment, great integration, and organized support.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

  ### 12. Great Value Firewall with an Intuitive UI and Strong Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

We’ve used Sophos firewall for many years (around 10 years), starting with their XG models and then moving to XGS. The bang for buck compared to other firewall vendors has been much more favourable, and there have been plenty of integrations available with our other tech stacks. Over the lifespan of these models, Sophos has continued to add more features and capabilities, and they’ve also introduced some solid quality-of-life firmware changes that have made the day-to-day experience better.

The UI is easy to pick up and understand. Support is also straightforward to access: we raise tickets through their support platform, and responses are typically next day or within two days. Priority tickets are always picked up quickly, as you’d expect. The firewall can be managed directly or via Sophos Central, which gives hybrid engineers an easy and secure way to access and manage it. Performance has consistently been good for us, with no issues to raise.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

Some parts of the web policy settings could be a bit clearer in the interface, especially if you’re using the appliance to manage user access to external sites and services.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were looking for a ZTNA solution for our staff, but we didn’t like that most of the options we evaluated required an extra virtual appliance sitting on our network to make it work. We were trying to reduce our device footprint and avoid introducing more servers that would need ongoing updates, which would only add to the workload for our IT engineers. With the Sophos firewall, the firewall itself can act as the virtual appliance on the LAN, providing those ZTNA functions and keeping everything built into hardware we already have.

  ### 13. Sophos Cloud Portal: access control, policies, and VPN made easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julio B. | Soporte Ténico y administrador de Redes, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

Sophos helps us identify threats on the network in a timely manner and stop their growth. It also allows us to securely manage the company's internal network policies and, furthermore, maintain a stable network on the premises, with good coverage across all available APs.

  ### 14. Strong Security Without the Usability Trade-Off

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

What stands out most to me is the balance between depth of security and day-to-day usability. Many solutions are either powerful but complex, or simple but limited, whereas this one manages to provide strong protection while still being practical to operate. It gives our team better visibility, more confidence in policy enforcement, and a more streamlined management experience overall. I especially appreciate that it supports security outcomes without adding unnecessary friction for administrators or end users. That combination has made it easier for us to maintain both control and productivity at the same time.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

If I had to highlight one drawback, it would be that some of the more advanced configuration areas come with a learning curve. The platform is powerful and offers a lot of flexibility, but getting the most out of every capability takes time and experience.

Sophos Firewall helps us protect the corporate perimeter, control remote access via VPN and MFA, filter web browsing, and detect access attempts or abnormal traffic. Integration with Sophos XDR and endpoint protection improves visibility on security events and speeds up the analysis of potential threats.

  ### 35. Sophos Firewall review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

The integration with Sophos Central is clean and makes remote management really straightforward. The UI is intuitive for most day-to-day tasks, and the security features (like web filtering, IPS, and application control) are solid out of the box. I also like how it ties in with other Sophos products—it’s clear the ecosystem was designed to work well together.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

I'd like for Sophos Central to be able to connect to the firewalls more reliably. I find myself never really using Central and just interfacing with the firewall directly as it's more responsive. Certain rules and NAT translation rules are a little hard to keep track of when linking to rules.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

RED tunnels and site to site VPN quite effective. Protection and reliability is still top shelf.

  ### 36. Sophos Firewall Delivers High Throughput and Deep, Cohesive Security

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ze Min C. | Technical Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

Sophos Firewall has been a strong performer in our environment. The Xstream architecture that it is built-on has provided real throughput without sacrificing inspection depth. TLS Inspection and Security Heartbeat provides a coherent security posture rather than isolated point products which makes it a very capable NGFW

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

Some advanced settings are harder to navigate to which may require some time and effort to pick up the management console. The integration for the Security Heartbeat will require the use of Sophos endpoint solutions although both are really good paired together

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Safer web browsing and web security

  ### 37. "Powerful Protection with Centralized Control"

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

The Administrator Perspective
I have managed sophos enviroments since 450 Days and the 2026 version of the Xstream Architecture is a massive leap forward. From an admin standpoint, the biggest "Qauality of life"

Synchronized Security: This is still the "Killer feature" having the firewall automatically isolate a compromised endpoint before it can move laterally is the only way a small IT team can sleep at night. It's saved us from manual containment at 2 AM more that once.

Xstream Fastpath: The way the hardware handles TLS1.3 inspection now is significantly better than the older 2023/24 models. We aren't seeing the performance "cliff" we used to hit when enabling deep packet inspection on high-traffic VLANs.

ZTNA integration: Moving away from traditional client-heavy VPNs to the built in ZTNA has simplified our remote workforce setup. It's much easier to explain "app-level access" to users than troubleshooting VPN "tunnels" that won't connect.

SD-WAN Orchestration: Our branch offices don't complain about VoIP jitter anymore. The point-and-click orchestration in sophos Central
for full mesh VPNs actually works as advertised. It manages the failover between our primary fiber and 5G backup without dropping active sessions.

Web Filtering: It's granular without being "pver-sesitive". We can allow specific SaaS tools like
Figma or GitHub while blocking the underlying data-exfilteration risks without breaking the sites CSS - a common issue with cheaper UTMs.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

On area where Sophos Firewall could improve is in its user interface and overall ease of configuration. While it offers a wide range of powerful features, navigating through settings can sometimes feel unintuitive, especially for new users or those without deep networking experience. Certain advanced configurations require multiple steps and aren't always clearly documented, which can slow down deployment or troubleshooting. Improving the UI design and simplifying workflows would make the product more accessible without compromising its robust capabilities

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sophos Firewall addresses several critical security and network management challenges, and the impact is pretty tangible in day to day operations.

As its core, its solves the problem of fragmented security. Instead of juggling multiple tools for threat detection, web filtering, VPN access, and application control, everything is unified in one platform. That consolidation reduces complexity and makes it much easier to monitor and respond to issue quickly.

Another big problem it solves is visibility. You get clear insights into who is using network, which applications are active, and where potential risks are coming from. the level of transparency makes its easier to enforce policies and optimize performance.

It also simplifies secure remote access. With built-in VPN options

It’s a shame there isn’t a CLI conversion tool, but with the Sophos installation and implementation team supporting us, the process was straightforward and was almost fully completed within the first four hours.

**What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don’t have enough staff to fully run a SOC/SIEM with internal personnel alone. With Sophos MDR, it feels like we’ve gained an additional security team that’s aligned with today’s cybersecurity needs and still within our tight budget.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?**

What I like most about Sophos Firewall is its ability to offer comprehensive network protection from a single platform. It helps me protect the institutional network and prevent unauthorized access, for example when a cybercriminal tries to access the academic grading system by generating login attempts with different user combinations. I also appreciate that it is a more intuitive and easy-to-manage platform, like Sophos Central, Endpoint, and Firewall, which was precisely the reason for switching from Fortinet. Another thing I like is the simplicity of the initial setup, such as the setup wizard that guides you step by step through the basic configuration, which considerably reduces implementation time.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?**

{"The learning curve for administrators is complicated for me.","I notice a high resource consumption on corporate devices.","The licensing costs generate a constant expense within the campus.","The devices become slow because, in addition to running Sophos, they run the endpoint and other packages in the background that consume excessive RAM due to their constant scanning."}
