After working for Photo view 360 for a long time, using Solidworks Visualize felt like a paradigm shift. While I spent many days configurating right parameters inside Photoview 360 to make the renderings look good, Solidworks Visualize models did not require even minutes to look good. Just the fact that it was a separate package only made it a blessing. While rendering used to be an option in my design schedule, it became a prominent element after and during the design phase. It was so intuitive, straightforward, and quick to work with that I even started communicating with the clients using the renders rather than the Solidworks models. Everything sets up very quickly. I can easily migrate the Solidworks files within the app using its add-on, or I can even import Solidworks assembly file directly inside of Visualize. It automatically links with the file and imports the information back with any update inside of Solidworks. The library has a lot of custom materials, environments and back plates both in the local and cloud library. I can swiftly select which combinations I love the best and make my renderings look good. The viewport can be customized as in Solidworks, and the ability to visualize renderings early on in the viewport and so quickly is such a game changer. The newly added denoiser inside of Solidworks Visualize is something that I'm in love with right now. It makes the already quick workflow of Solidworks visualize faster. While there are many things I like about Visualize, I have specific complaints too, which I hope will be solved soon. Let me list them off: 1. If there were a virtual 3-d grid in the viewport, it would be easier to dolly the camera. 2.If there were a way to figure out the expected time of render before hitting render, it would be easier to select the proper settings for render. 3. Is there any chance I'll get to use node-based shading (as that of Blender) inside Visualize any day? 4. The model tree is not that intuitive. 5. While Visualize is good for quick renderings (both photos and videos) for effective communication, I will not prefer it to Blender if I have to create a product video advertisement. Recommendations to others considering SOLIDWORKS Visualize: There aren't many software packages that render out CAD models, but I'll have to say that it's one of the best that the industry has to offer, within the CAD world. Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) 1/23/2020 "A few features away from dominance" 3.5/5 What do you like best about SOLIDWORKS Visualize? Fully native assembly import, GPU rendering with RTX acceleration, and the live update to all textures, models, and decals. Those 3 features I believe is what's keeping Visualize on top of it's game. The results I get from their presets alone are very good, and since they added support for MDL appearances the quality is photo realistic. I also find myself using the live update feature a lot, in my case, i'll forget to add a couple bolts to the 3D model and all I have to do is go into Solidworks, add the bolts, and save the model. When I go back to Visualize, it immediately recognizes that there's been a change and the bolts have been added after re-importing while also retaining all of the appearances in the model. The animation suite for the pro version of Visualize is simply fantastic, probably the best out there at the moment. You have complete control over every part after you import the model, you can create groups for specific parts you want to animate altogether at the same time. You can also create keyframed animations for all of your parts, while also being able to edit the HDRI environment and appearances, and if your using the 2020 version, you can edit the lights as well. The new Denoising restructure works beautifully, it's an absolute miracle with how well it works. I'm going from 1200 passes on average to about 500 passes and saving a TON of time while at the same time not seeing any downgrade in image quality. I can't imagine not using the denoising feature anymore and it becomes a snooze fest when I needed to go back to 2018 while awaiting for my pro license of the 2020 version. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about SOLIDWORKS Visualize? For some reason, the displacement maps don't work for visualize, and haven't worked for the past. To get it to work, you have to crank up the resolution of your geometry to an absurd level, i'm talking tens of millions of polygons, and even then it barely does much to actually displace the geometry correctly according to the texture your using, and it doesn't matter what type of displacement map it is from what iv'e seen. At this point, they NEED to get this sorted out and fixed because for some people, they want to be able to render things such as trees, ground (including sand, snow, dirt etc.), specific metal types such as diamond plated steel, and others I can't quite name at the moment. The program seems to crash for no reason sometimes. Once I tried opening the dropdown menu for the 'Help' option on the top of the window and it crashed immediately after clicking the button. Most of the crashes occur when i'm either switching from preview to accurate or the other way around, and switching tabs on the right hand window. I'm unsure why it is so buggy and unstable after 4ish years of updates and enhanced speeds. Inconsistent performance at times leaves me slouching on my seat waiting instead of actually working. My PC will be dominating visualize, averaging about 15 passes per second on accurate rendering, then after I edit a materials color or roughness, it will just die down to about 6 passes per second all the sudden. I can validate my PC is correctly functioning as it is newly built just for visualize. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering SOLIDWORKS Visualize: Now if you just need to take still shots of your models, there are other products you can use that give the same or possibly better results than Visualize does, a great example of that would be Keyshot. But if you intend to use Visualize for video, they are the best when to comes to the amount of control they allow when your animating. The biggest downside to Visualize Pro HAS to be the price. We bought our pro license for $3,000, and it was on a discount. While Keyshot Pro is available for about $800 I believe, and it also has video animation capabilities like Visualize does (but it's awful and outdated, I do not recommend buying Keyshot if you plan to do video animation with it) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Our company doesn't have the resources and manpower most of the time to plan and shoot our machines whenever we feel it is necessary, so to have Visualize with us is a complete game changer. It provides a great depth of useful applications while the training is exceptional. Solidworks has all features which is necessary to create drawings and edit and customize to our machining needs.
