
The SolarWinds Remote Management & Monitoring software package offers us a wide assortment of tools at our disposal while not being tied down to one PC. We are free to log in to the interface anywhere their is an internet connection. Installation of the package can be pushed out to all machines connected to the domain via group policies. The MSP Institute offers work at your own pace training for more than just the product. Need marketing help, how about sales help? The MSP Institute has it. It has proven to be a valuable training tool for management and our technicians. The support we receive from our account rep is top notch. While several of the products are have the same interface, not all do. Some of the products are stand alone and you have to log into different areas to gain access. It would be nice to have all the products integrated and data shared between the different products. The downside to using SolarWinds Remote Management & Monitoring software is that there can be a bit of a learning curve to the figuring out all the ins and outs of the packages with in the software. Solarwinds MSP RMM has some great features, Take Control (formerly MSP Connect) works wonderfully when it's working and the other tools that the system provides on remote workstations can be key to the success of a particular ticket or interaction with a user. Having come into a Solarwinds deployment that had been setup and configured by someone else with little documentation I found it difficult to see through the system. I.E. the transparency of the system can be difficult to work through, the way filters, rules, service templates and notifications work together can be confusing but do eventually make sense given enough time with a particular deployment. Patch management is another system in Solarwinds MSP RMM that is difficult to understand. It can be hard to determine why a particular patch has failed to install and the documentation on patch management does little to explain what is happening behind the scenes. The interface is easy to navigate. Setting up policies is straight forward. The antivirus and web filter are simple and exceptions are easy to make. Upgrading the agent is made simple and creating scripts is made fool proof. (Well, almost) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have had issues with support. When creating a case, I sometimes have been given KB articles that I either have already seen or have little relevance to my issue. Sometimes this gets frustrating, so I find myself giving the poor intern the task of information gathering. Remote Monitoring and the MSP portal is phenomenal, not only does it allow us to easily monitor our clients health, as well as patching, power state for UPS's and a myriad of other things, it has a clear and easy to read environment and makes our jobs much easier. The Management portal allows us to easily manage tickets, assigning technicians where they need to be and adds a degree of professionalism to our business that other IT providers don't have. The expierence was very straight forward very easy to use. If we ran into any issues Solarwinds support was always available to assist with any issues we were having. All and all I would defiantly recommend this product to other clients. We also like the many configured checks that can be added to any clients systems.
