"4+ years of using TM and it keeps adding value"

What do you like best?

Threat Monitor is a very fast SIEM tool that allows analysts quick and easy access to the data that they need to threat hunt and find those needles in the needle stack to help prevent attacks. It is a very flexible platform that can consume any log source, easy to understand user interface and the quick ability to customize to meet your business needs.

What do you dislike?

As with any SIEM tool it takes a significant effort to configure in order to get value. This is not a Threat Monitor only problem, but it is a pure SIEM tool for logging and indexing. You will need to add additional tools in order to have a complete security operations with people, process and technology. If you are building your own SOC it will take time and money to complete as it is not a plug-and-play technology.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When looking at any SIEM, including Threat Monitor, I would recommend you look at a partner that is already using to the tool to get immediate value and lower cost. If you are going to use the SIEM on your own make sure you have the right team, processes and time to implement it correctly.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Visibility into logs, threats and intrusions is critical for any business and Threat Monitor can be the center of that requirement. It meets compliance requirements for HIPAA, PCI, ISO, CIS and NIST. The tool can alert and report to give any SOC team the information they need.

"Best single pane platform out there!"

What do you like best?

The best aspect of SolarWinds Threat Monitor is the ability to gather reporting on multiple threat assessments and provide a succinct and detailed analysis to our clients. We use this as a way to show our potential clients and current clients why they need to do business with us. Business Intelligence!

What do you dislike?

I don't have much to dislike with SolarWinds Threat Monitor. They provide the best in class applications in my opinion. The one drawback would be the lack of customizable reporting that we can provide our clients. The standard reporting is fine, but from a marketing point of view, we would like to have some liberty with the design and flow of the reports.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Take a look at their entire lineup. SolarWinds is a leader in MSP applicaitons and the Solarwinds MSP Threat Monitor is another feather in the proverbial hat!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Providing our clients with the best in class services and support. The SolarWinds MSP Threat Monitor allows us to quantify our service and provide an invaluable support structure to enhance our client's business. Our clients can rest assured that they will be protected and not left in the dark.

What Threat Intelligence solution do you use?

"Lightning Fast INdexing and Threat Hunting"

What do you like best?

SolarWinds Threat Monitor offers full service SOC's a lighting fast indexing and threat hunting service for expert analysts to support threat detection and threat hunting in a SOC environment.

What do you dislike?

Althought it does include Suricata Threat intelligence for NIDS and built-in O365 monitoring, the NIDS can improve and the Microsoft API for O365 only supports 500 user logs at this moment - but both will improve over time.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Like any SIEM product in this genre, it is better if you partner with a full-service SOC which knows how to implement, fine tune and can monitor the alerts and respond long-term for cost effectiveness and to avoid a shelfware experience.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been supporting both small and large businesses for almost 5 years with Threat Monitor at the core of our full-service SOC!

"No Frills Raw Data for Security Engineers"

What do you like best?

Data is there in raw form and can be searched relatively easily.

What do you dislike?

Only 10 days of live data. This should be at least 30 days because most incidents in large organizations will not be recognized in such a small window. Waiting for data requests is also variable and can greatly add to the response from our teams.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

New interface and search features for less experienced infosec engineers.

Revamp reporting.

Publish a man page for all search commands.

Improve current helpdesk staff.

Honor feature requests and bug fixes.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We solve IR scope, vulnerability management issues, internal affairs support and enterprise metrics.

"A easy to use IDS,IPS system"

What do you like best?

Prevention, detection and analysis and response to cyber-security threat. This is robust and intuitive platform which can be scaled to any sized organization.

It receives continuously updated threat information on both managed and unmanaged nodes on both IP and Domain reputation sources and honing on critical threats and compares that against multiple sources of threat intelligence.Keeps a logs for 10 days and achieves older logs. Alarms are generated at the detection of threats.

What do you dislike?

Detection is pretty good feature, still needs some ramping up on prevention of threats

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Easy to use like all the other solarwinds products.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Network Cybersecurity administration
