Recommendations to others considering SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server: If your environment is bigger one which have thousands of devices (Network/Widnows or any other syslog enabled devices) then Solarwinds Kiwi Syslog Server is a nice a tool for you. It not only handles any amount of syslog messages. It also offers multiple actions that you can take on received syslog messages e.g. Send an Email, Forward Syslog Message, Write syslog in a Log File. But if you are looking for a solution where you want to integrate Syslog Messages with Third Party ITSM tool then you may have to struggle a little bit since you have to find a way of integration via Email or Logfile since there is no Write Syslog Messages in Event table option. No. of actions that can be performed on Syslog Messages are nice and good in numbers. Integration with Orion Platform is not available so this is one of the negative side of this tool. Also Events based on Syslog Messages Rule cannot be integrated with any other ticketing tool, only way is to send email alerts or integrate based on email action. Or if you very less Syslog Messages coming to your environment then you can use Orion Platform (NPM) itself. Also it provides you lot of actions that you can take based on the filter criteria. There are bulk of Syslog Messages that we rely on, it was very difficult to have these syslog messages accommodated in Orion Platform but now we have isolated application for handling the same. Kiwi SysLog is a great tool for monitoring servers and equipment. We just implemented Kiwi SysLog and it has saved us several dollars by find an issue before it arises. We have replaced about 5 SSD's that were about to fail. If we did not have Kiwi SysLog the SSD's would have failed and that would have put us in a bad situation. This uses a lot of resources and is best to have its own server. That means there is another server that you have to build out and more licenses that you have to purchase.
