Smootables is a cloud platform that unifies school year planning and automatic timetabling. Plan courses, staff, and rooms, validate the plan, then generate a feasible timetable. Smootables brings school year planning and automatic timetabling into one cloud workspace, so the plan and the timetable share a single data model instead of drifting across spreadsheets. Planners model academic years, terms, courses and modules, teachers, rooms, equipment, student groups, and individual student pathways. Thirteen pre-generation validation checks catch missing teachers, impossible workloads, and capacity problems before the solver runs. A Google OR-Tools CP-SAT solver then generates period timetables against always-enforced hard constraints — teacher, room, and group clash-free scheduling, room capacity and availability, teacher weekly hours, breaks, pinned placements, and lesson dependencies — plus 6 weighted soft preferences, at 15-minute granularity with lesson durations from 5 to 480 minutes, so variable lengths, double blocks, and all-day workshops are native. When a timetable cannot work, typed infeasibility reports name one of 13 conflict causes with concrete fixes, and unplaceable lessons wait in a waiting area for manual resolution. Planners stay in control with drag-and-drop moves, swaps, splitting, pinning, undo/redo, version branches, and an audit trail. An AI planner assistant edits the plan in natural language without bypassing the solver or hard constraints.
