The API performance is excellent. Support has also been incredibly helpful. Early in development we had an issue in our code that caused the logic to loop through validations generating several thousand API calls. Smarty reviewed their logs and was able to confirm the occurance and credited us for the extra API calls. Documentation is very good. Their occasional webinars have been very helpful as well. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** I would like to be able to have multiple user accounts (with their own login id and password) configured for our organization's overall Smarty account. I can add contacts so that they receive email notifications. You will end up paying considerably more than you expected. Google Maps is considerably less expensive and a much better service/product. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** Their product is poor quality, and their pricing is deceptive. If you try to cancel... they will make you jump through numerous hoops and will not refund a single penny of the credits you pay for ahead of time. This is obviously a business strategy due to the amount of customer churn they likely have. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a reliable, cost-effective solution. As a company that eats, drinks, and breathes address data, we take claims about inaccuracy seriously. And when any of our customers, no matter the size, has any issues with our services, we jump on resolving such issues. Our records show your company has been a Smarty customer for multiple years and started using our address autocomplete product in October 2021. Since then, the subscription for that product has been renewed multiple times. When you recently contacted us about receiving a refund, over 30% of your current subscription had already been used. As is standard practice for SaaS companies, a refund is dependent on how much of a subscription has been used. As such, to escalate your request for a refund, we simply needed information about the technical issues you've encountered. After multiple email requests and attempted calls to gather this information, we haven't received such details. We're still willing to work with you, or another member of your team, to understand and resolve any technical issues encountered. ### 9. The data given makes it an additional touchpoint for customers to make sure that product gets to them on time all the time, which is the most important thing that you can do for anyone, shipping anything, anywhere. The prices are ridiculously cheap, so even with just 1 wrong addressed fixed, you are net positive on your subscription more often than not. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** There's very little that I didn't like about smarty. I only stopped using smarty because the business for which we integrated smarty with went out of business. From time to time, there will be a legitimate address that neither Smarty nor Google is aware of, but the USPS says the address is there. Documentation is thorough and easy to use and understand. Metadata is copious and includes geocoding information at no additional charge unless you need rooftop-level resolution. Support has been responsive, usually within a couple of hours, even though we're a small customer. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** No batched lookups on the international side. Freeform address validation has some limitations on the international side, though it hasn't caused too much real-world pain. Suggestions for fixing partially matched addresses are not given very often, at least if you're not paying for enhanced matching. I haven't tried that out to see if it helps. You'll generally get back a valid address that was corrected for you, which is great, or a partially valid address with the invalid parts left in and no suggestions for fully valid replacements. If the user, for instance, enters an invalid premise number, there's no help available to present to the user. It would be good to know the valid range of numbers on that street, or possibly even a list though I know that might get really long. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** We need accurate addresses to install services for our customers, and Smarty is how we make sure we've got good data up front. Obviously, this has seriously negative business implications. Also, the validation is so finicky that customers have a hard time completing addresses in highly populated cities like Hong Kong. We're able to use the API to batch-validate addresses before we import them from an external system to our CRM. We are not using their other services, so I can't speak to those. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** We initially started using Smarty because they had a non-profit grant program that allowed us to use their US Address validation service without charge. Unfortunately, they discontinued that program. It's still more affordable that other solutions we have looked at, however. **Recommendations to others considering Smarty:** If you are looking for address validation services, I highly recommend you check out SmartyStreets. If you are a non-profit, ask them about their grant program for USPS validation. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** We import addresses from orders and donations through an external system, and we used to have to manually clean them up during or after import to our CRM. I have been a customer for over a decade now, back when they used to be "Smarty Streets". I work with address data in a small business and I have found their products scaleable and useful. Most recently I received an email about the new master address file that Smarty has created. I was able to see the list in action using the Q-GIS platform. I watched the recorded webinar and followed the instructions. I did get stuck on an implementation step. I wrote a comment on youtube and was pleasantly surprised that the Smarty team got back to me so fast. I think it was the same day. They recommended rolling back the Q version I was using to an earlier version and that did the trick. I was impressed with their help and thought it was a good sign that they were responsive and helpful to just a normal youtube comment. And the plug in is good, I will be looking into implementing that when I have more time to test it. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** The one thing I disliked was the high price point to use the Master File data. I called and had a nice chat with the sales team but they wanted a high fee to use the product. I think for me I was surprised because I have always found them friendly and understanding of all business models. It felt that this product is priced out of range for small businesses to use. Now maybe using it within the Q-GIS plug-in would work (that fee was much more normal). I commented to the sales person to see if there was a monthly option or pay by minute or records but it wasn't offered at that time. I currently use address validation by the record and the subscription renews each month or as I go over. I was told this was an older product but hey it works for me and I like it. So I wish they would scale something similar for the master address file. Not only are we getting "official" USPS formatted address data now, but we also automatically get the county, which has significant implications for the taxes we pay based on address/location of assets. This was a significant pain point for us prior to Smarty. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** One of the main challenges we have encountered with Smarty is around billing and allocation of lookups between the 2 API keys in our account. While users are typing address information, the service is constantly filtering for the correct address. If a user pauses in the field while typing, a hit will occur, then when they continue, another hit occurs. Specifically, Smarty is an application program interface ("API") that does many things, but we use it for only four of them since our business demands correct addresses which are occupied and are not vacant: 1. Verify and correct a single address, or verify and correct a huge batch of addresses from a giant mailing list; 2. Match city and state to zip code and vice-versa, and also get nine-digit zip codes for any address; 3. Autocomplete for internet buyers by suggesting up to ten addresses while users are typing to make entries easier; and 4. Weed out bad addresses, vacant addresses, vacation holds, and much more. Send mass mailings only to qualified recipients actually getting mail at the targeted addresses. Every business that needs a constant flow of new customers should be using it, particularly for mailings, mailing lists, and proper product delivery to valid addresses. There is only a tiny handful of APIs like this, and they all cost more and don’t do half as much. However, Smarty is the best -- hands down -- and offers U.S.-based, competent customer service with Americans in Utah. I have used Smarty ever since its inception many years ago, to verify thousands of addresses each day for mailing lists that I buy in Excel format from a list broker. I run them through the API, discarding the ones that are bad, and ultimately have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in mailings since about 5% of the addresses I buy every day are undeliverable! This API is an incredible product that will save your business money, too. Imagine reducing the returned mail to almost none. Imagine deleting every single bad address (or correcting each one) even before you send the mail out! Imagine the jump you'll have on the competition which uses the same leads and mailing lists you buy from the same list brokers! Using Smarty, I consistently got my mail delivered earlier than my competitors and had much less returned mail than my competitors -- and best -- I got mail-pieces delivered that they could not deliver! Using it, you can prevent mailings to non-existent addresses, vacant dwellings, and even addressees on vacation! This API is the best tool you can have when doing mass mailings or shipping products to recipients. In short, it is absolutely incredible.
