"Scalable Reporting Powerhouse, But Setup and Training Take Time"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I have been using Smartsheet consistently for the past year and it has become our go-to platform for managing work across the organization. The scalability of the platform is impressive. We started with a small team using basic sheets and have grown to hundreds of users managing complex portfolios without outgrowing the system. The reporting and dashboard capabilities are particularly strong, allowing us to create executive-level views that communicate progress effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

The platform is not without its flaws however. The initial implementation process was more involved than we expected, requiring significant configuration and testing before we could roll it out broadly. The user interface could be more intuitive, especially for team members who are not technology focused. We have had to invest considerable time in training to ensure everyone uses the platform effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Transformed Our Initiative Management with Powerful Gantt and Resource Planning"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What drew me to Smartsheet initially was its reputation for handling complexity and it has certainly lived up to that expectation. We have been using it for about ten months and it has transformed how we manage our initiatives. The hierarchical structure of sheets, rows, and columns gives us incredible flexibility to model our work exactly as we need. I particularly value the Gantt chart views which provide excellent visibility into project timelines and dependencies. The resource management features have also been incredibly helpful for capacity planning and preventing burnout. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While Smartsheet is powerful, it sometimes feels like overkill for simpler tasks. There are times when a basic tool would suffice but we are locked into using Smartsheet for everything because of our subscription. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Enterprise Collaboration and Premium Apps That Streamline Project Delivery"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is predominately a collaborative work management tool that allows cross-collaboration. Best part of it is the Enterprise or AWM plans that really enable powerful work delivery with Premium Apps like Smartsheet control center that helps saving times (when handling over 50 projects a year minimum) or dynamic View for managing sharing data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

the native AI features are not there yet and Smartsheet is not investing enough on them. Hard to quantify a return on investment with those AI features at the current stage and they will realistically take up to 36 months to be at the level of Monday.com or any other Saas product. They should invest on re-upskilling the Support Team or improve the Support experience as they client's reply do not get addressed within the first 7 or 14 days, as it takes usually at least 5-15 email exchanges to make them understanding the issue. Overall the UI/UX of smartsheet is good and improving but some Views like Table View need a lot of investment to cope the same performances of Grid View. the Integrations provided are really good but their AI MCP connectors are not capable enough compared with a native MCP built by any Smartsheet Partner. "Smartsheet Simplifies Project Planning with Clear Dashboards and Collaboration"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

My company uses Smartsheet primarily for creating and sharing project plans with our clients or for internal purposes. I like that it simplifies the process of building schedules, managing task dependencies, and tracking progress. It's also easy to collaborate with both internal teams and clients, as everyone can view the latest project status in one place, add comments etc. The dashboards and reporting capabilities provide good visibility into milestones, risks, and overall project health, making it easier to communicate progress and keep stakeholders aligned. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

One thing I find challenging is that some features aren't very intuitive to locate, especially if you don't use them frequently. For example, I recently wanted to add a holiday calendar to my project plan so that project dates would take non-working days into account. I couldn't remember where that setting was, and it wasn't easy to find within Smartsheet. I ended up asking ChatGPT to find the steps for me. Integrating a ChatGPT kind of machine within Smartsheet I believe that it would make it easier to guide users on how to find things within Smartsheet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Streamlined Our Workflow with Grid/Gantt Views and Smart Automation"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I Like Best: The seamless toggle between Grid and Gantt views ensures my team stays aligned without manual updates. Automated workflow triggers are my biggest time-saver; they handle recurring status nudges, reclaiming about 4 hours weekly.

Workflow Impact: Smartsheet eliminated our "version control" chaos. Having a single source of truth prevents data silos, while integrated intake forms automatically populate my master sheet, cutting out manual transcription.

Unexpected Benefit: The mobile app’s real-time photo uploads have been game-changing, providing total field visibility without needing constant status meetings. It’s transformed our collaborative efficiency from reactive to proactive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Complex Formula Limitations: "While grid-based, Smartsheet formulas lack the robustness of Excel. Complex nested functions or large-scale data manipulation often hit performance limits, forcing me to use multiple helper columns that clutter my sheets."

Mobile Editing Constraints: "While great for viewing, the mobile app lacks the full functionality of the desktop version. Making structural changes or complex updates on the go is difficult, which limits its utility for 'in-the-field' project management."

Steep Learning Curve: "The transition from a basic spreadsheet to a project management tool is difficult for new users; the interface can be overwhelming, leading to initial resistance and the need for significant internal training time." Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"If Process Mapping is your forte - Smartsheet is your End-to-End solution"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

No coding software, yet it captures all the user requirement that one may need to develop a solution for their company, it's very dependable and not easy to break if you set it up correctly. The looks are same as Excel but it is more powerful with lots of easy to setup automations, It keeps the stakeholders well-informed with automated emails/notifications. Workflow works seemslessly and if you get stuck they have a wonderful staff and customer support that usually reaches you within 24hrs with all detailed possible solutions:) Kudos!!

It's mobile and desktop apps are new useful additions- keeps it very handy even if you on rolls. You can use it anywhere, anytime for any quick review. Very helpful for daily in take process uses. I recently used their Data shuttle- very happy to use such feature when less human intervention and more better integration with other apps. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Still many basic features are not available, some of them are used in day to day usability cases e.g. time format, validation, ability to create Error display messages....Grid sheet to Dynamic data translation(one example: time format is in UTC ISO8601 format in dynamic).

They do have wonderful active community, where we users share great ideas....and it's completely understandable that with limited resources - it takes time to implement, but unavilablity or slow release of new features makes it difficult many times to convince the Stakeholders to present Smartsheet as a perfect 'Usecase' solution.

To make this product even more successful, users need more flexible, advance features else many competitors are there in the market. Recent 'Enagage 2023' summit shared some great upcoming features,, hope to get them soon. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Granular Sharing and Dynamic Views Make Smartsheet Shine"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like about using smartsheet is I can ask someone to update selected fields without giving access to the entire sheet and also the dynamic view feature which can expose only relevant records or fields without sharing the source sheet Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

the higher ongoing cost per user, most work requires an internet connection, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Tool, But Needs Relational Database Features for Shared Contact Columns"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The flexibility in how it can be used across various needs Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I wish it functioned more like a relational data base. Where come columns in one worksheet can be related together (similar to microsoft access from years ago).

I wish there was an easier way to copy a column that contains contacts. within org. This is a common column in many of my worksheets across various projects. When a change to this type of column is needed, I can't easily just make the change in one worksheet then copy/paste into multiple others. Note: if this relational aspect described above existed, I could just have one worksheet with the list, point that list to all other sheets, then only have to change the one column in one sheet Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Excellent for managing projects, automating workflows, and keeping teams aligned"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The flexibility is what stands out most. I like how it combines spreadsheet simplicity with advanced project management capabilities such as automation, dashboards, reporting, Gantt charts, forms, and resource management. It integrates well with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, and many other business tools, making it easy to fit into existing workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While the interface is generally intuitive, some of the more advanced features require time to learn, especially workflow automation and complex reporting. The pricing can also become expensive for larger organizations or teams that need premium capabilities. Mobile functionality works well for basic updates but doesn't always offer the same experience as the desktop version. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Unifies Planning, Automation, and Executive Dashboards for Real-Time Visibility"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like best about Smartsheet is its ability to bring project planning, execution, and reporting into a single platform. As a PMO and Program Leader, I regularly use automated workflows, dashboards, reports, and resource management to provide executives with real-time visibility into project health, risks, dependencies, and budget status.

One feature that has significantly improved my workflow is automated alerts and approval workflows. Instead of manually chasing status updates, Smartsheet automatically notifies stakeholders when actions are required, saving several hours each week and improving accountability across teams.

Another capability I rely on is executive dashboards. Rather than spending time building PowerPoint reports, I can provide leaders with live portfolio data that updates automatically, allowing faster decision-making.

An unexpected benefit has been the platform's flexibility. I've used Smartsheet not only for project management, but also for PMO governance, intake management, RAID logs, resource planning, and strategic portfolio tracking. It scales well from managing a single project to overseeing enterprise-wide transformation programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While Smartsheet is a powerful platform, one challenge is that it can become difficult to govern at scale. As organizations grow, it's easy for teams to create duplicate sheets, inconsistent reporting structures, and disconnected workflows without strong PMO standards.

I've also found that advanced portfolio management and cross-project dependency tracking can require significant configuration compared to purpose-built PPM tools. While Smartsheet is highly flexible, that flexibility sometimes means additional effort to build and maintain enterprise-level solutions.

Another area for improvement is executive reporting across large portfolios. Although dashboards are effective, creating highly customized analytics and forecasting often requires integrations with Power BI or other reporting tools to achieve deeper insights.

That said, these limitations are generally outweighed by the platform's ease of adoption, automation capabilities, and ability to quickly deliver value across project, program, and portfolio management functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
