In this regard, it is easier to use than similar tools from Google or Microsoft. It does a decent job with status trackers or user-maintained lookup tables. Their customer support and online resources are robust. **What do you dislike about Smartsheet?** 1) Reporting features are very under-par, especially as compared to free offerings from Google and Microsoft. For instance, to do a basic Pivot of a Smartsheet list, you have to pay for a rather expensive add-on module. 2) Hitting the 500,000 cell limit is easy to do if you have wide tables. Good product, a lot of use cases & add-ons. Basic and business models are intuitive because they follow a standard spreadsheet methodology. The Dashboards are easy to build and becoming proficient with the basic automations and features isn't a heavy time investment for beginners and routine Smartsheet users on our team. I was excited about blue prints and control center, data shuttle and our ability to update in one location across all our records. But execution didn't pan out. I am in Smartsheet daily to manage member and committee rosters, contracts and budgets, dashboards and more. **What do you dislike about Smartsheet?** We upgraded to the advanced package to get all the bells and whistles. We are a super tiny organization and the imlementation support package was way out of our budget. We opted for a middle tier support package and the experience was so bad we asked for a refund. I would have expected more from the onboard/training team than we got. To make matters worse, we paid for the advanced package for an entire year and were unsuccessful in utilizing a single feature we had paid for because we could not get beyond the basics of building blue prints and there are zero useful videos/demos online or in the Smartsheet University available. When we contacts Smartsheet we would get bounced around and rarely got a timeley response. We have been unable to add/remove users and licenses and now that we want to downgrade we still cannot get anyone to respond to us. I am very dissapointed in Smartsheet because of this. There are a ton of tools coming onto the market that provide powerful dashboards and easy access to viewing and editing by individuals outside of the organization. Smartsheet seems to be moving the opposite direction in this too. We used to be able to publish and allow our members to view/edit/inpu information without a login and some of the features are no longer available under the free version. For what we were being charged for all the bells and whisltes it wasn't worth the complexity and anxiety of trying to get the system set up. We are now downgrading and looking for alternative tools to meet some or all of our needs. Note that integration isn't easy because you basically build from the ground up. **What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems it solves include the following: Contracting workflows, automation and key information database. Member participation, attendance and various other types of key data tracking and reporting. Automation/alerts for deadlines on specific contracts, grants and workflows for collaborative projects across membership. Budget alerts, tracking and vendor compliance. One repository for member data, contacts and more. ### 6. If you get good at Macros and Pivot tables in Excel, you're already well ahead of the curve. Smartsheet seems very "dumbed down". It's simple to set up and you can get email reminders about anything you want, which is incredibly helpful. If you know excel it is pretty easy to teach your coworkers how to use, so the ease of integration isn't too bad. **What do you dislike about Smartsheet?** The least helpful thing about Smartsheet is its customer service. We had several things we wanted to do with the software, but anytime we tried to get help or called for suggestions, we could never get a hold of anybody. I talked on the phone with them for several hours about a project, and then they couldn't figure something out and we never heard back. Since we never got our project up and running, we hardly ever use Smartsheet. **What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I think the only problem Smartsheet really helped me solve, was the email reminders for dates. Since everyone knows how to work in Excel already, it's easier for onboarding. **What do you dislike about Smartsheet?** Resource Management (by Smartsheet) integration is not very intuitive, and the UX isn't very nice. Smartsheet itself looks very outdated, and therefore, adoption within the company was lacking (there are so many other products out there that look way nicer and have a much more intuitive UX). Customer support is absolutely atrocious, so I hope you never need help with anything. The calendar functionality is limited to dates only and not times so if you are looking to use it as a scheduling tool (ie for events or otherwise), it won't work for you. **What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?** It was solving our resource allocation (by using Resource Management by smartsheet, in collaboration with smartsheet). The time cost to upload all the data of a job is simply too high to get the tiny but of info that can be seen. This website would work way better for a larger company where everyone is on their computers all day. It is very expensive to use on a smaller scale, it is designed to be purchased as a whole company/process solution with all the modules/options purchased. When you only purchase basic usage or a few add on modules, you lose a great deal of functionality. We felt like we were constantly being "upsold" in order to achieve the solution we required. We also are discouraged about the lack of integration with other data sources so it requires a lot of data entry to populate information. **What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?** We need to track software licensing purchases and renewal dates. Smartsheet tracks this information and notifies us of upcoming expirations. We need to collaborate on on-going project status with internal and external teams, including the customer. By utilizing SmartSheets and sharing the information on a Microsoft SharePoint site we are able to do so. We need to receive service requests from internal and external sources. We use the SmartSheet form to collect the request and required information to then populate a tracker sheet to fullfill the requests. We use SmartSheet to schedule and track Project tasks during the installation process. ### 32. Their first year rate is less than their renewal rate, which is about 20% more. They mention this in some legal document somewhere that nobody reads, and may even mention it in early sales calls supposedly, but the fact that you have to pay more to be a loyal customer is very backwards to any client retention strategy I've ever heard of. Makes me a bit worried about the long term viability of the company... 2. I escalated a sales-side issue to my account exec's manager, Adam Jackson https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-jackson-84094461 - after many pings across two weeks he has not once responded to me. If this is the level of professionalism and responsiveness I knew to expect from Smartsheet going into it I would have used any one of their competitors. I seriously question Smartsheet's executive leadership if this is the quality of employee they hire to manage teams. 3. I reached out to sales in their chat widget and told them my invoice was incorrect and needed help - they told me that I was in the wrong place and sent me to Finance. The communication style was unprofessional, and ultimately Finance bounced me BACK to Sales to sort it out anyways - so the Sales chat didn't even know where to send me. I'm concerned about the lack of organization and professionalism in their sales side. 4. Renewals are an absolute mess. We received an invoice to pay manually instead of it just coming straight off a credit card like we originally paid with. Probably some setting that we could set ourselves, but this isn't intuitive - we don't have this problem with any other SaaS we use. **What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows us to setup project task lists, assign tasks to users and then create reports for each user that outlines their tasks and for which projects. This makes the to-do list for each person very straightforward without having to hunt through tens (or hundreds) of projects at once to find their tasks. We can then report on productivity from that point, which benefits us at the leadership level. ### 35. The proofing system itself is fairly robust, and being able to create in-line feedback is very convenient versus simply leaving comments. **What do you dislike about Smartsheet?** Attempting to create dependencies for jobs is a hassle, and even adding a start and end date to jobs can sometimes result in a fairly annoying string of errors. The interface itself is fairly unintuitive, and if you attempt to filter jobs by who's assigned to them, there's no feature to showcase child tasks underneath them unless the person you're filtering to is assigned to every single subtask. Not having the sheet automatically update in real time is a pain when you have multiple people contributing to different job progression simultaneously, and there's no very easy way to create a job template for a reoccuring task that you can simply tweak a few values on and expect to work perfectly. **What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Smartsheet is solving the problem of attempting to keep track of multiple projects (as well as subtasks) at once. By making sure that all of our projects are centralized in one place with designated users assigned to each one, it helps keep everything on track to be completed on time and be approved by the necessary clients. ### 36.
