"Decent platform for a good price"
4.5/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

This platform has made our grant application process much less time-consuming and more accesible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

There have been a few glitches - where I click on something normal and it says "You are not authorized" - to do average tasks. There are a few more customizations that I would like, particularly in customizing the page for my evaluators. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Robert Davis of SmarterSelect

Hi Kimi, many thanks for your review! We'd love to hear your ideas about customizations. Please send to our support team and they will forward to our product manager. Robert

"Promote effective communication among members of the committee"
4.5/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

We have found custom forms and automated workflow used in SmarterSelect as useful tools for managing applications for a scholarship. As such, we can be able to modify the application process to fit our needs well and also provide a good experience for applicants. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

I feel that granularity of data provided is not sufficient enough to be analyzed in much detail. For instance, it is nearly impossible to look at a particular demographic or an application segment and determine trends/biases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Robert Davis of SmarterSelect

Tolga, thanks for your review and feedback! I've provided a link regarding building Reports. And, of course, you can export all application data at anytime for analysis in Excel. Reach out to Support for further assistance.

"SmarterSelect is a really good tool to use for setting up scholarship applications!"
4.5/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

I really like the ease of setting up a scholarship application for the next year. When I have an issue, the customer support responds quickly to help me remedy the problem. I really like that we have all the past years information still available to access. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

If I leave the application open too long, I need to logoff then log back in again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Lots of features but hard to use"
2.5/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

I like that smarter select is able to accommodate a large number of applicants. I like the many different types of answer boxes and especially the recommendation ones. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

SmarterSelect is very not user friendly to admins. It is super hard to make applications and I remade many before I realized that I could copy applications and not start over. I receive many emails from my applicants struggling to log in for various reasons and for our purposes if there a lot of choices the application can become long and unwieldy because the question blocks can be so big. "Smarter Select works well for simple programs"
3/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

I like the price - it is a good value. I also like that they can answer questions and offer very timely support. It is easy to use for the administrator Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

The applicantions do not print well. The font is all mixed up and the spacing is wierd. Everyone complains how it looks when printed.

I do not like that the applicants are determined by email and not organization name. WHen peopel at the organization leave, often an organization just keeps the former name and email on the application Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Robert Davis of SmarterSelect

Lisa, thanks for your review and feedback. It's very helpful.

The backend is easy to navigate as well as train others to use the portal. Very simple to use! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

I wish I could see the applications submitted on the application review page in a pdf form rather than see it in a list view. Besides that its wonderful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smarter Select for Community Foundation Use"
4/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

SmarterSelect is a low cost option for smaller organizations, e.g. smaller community foundations, who want to use technology other than Google forms to execute their grant program. SmarterSelect has very good support which is useful - particularly when starting to use it. I also like that they are continuing to make improvements that make it easier to use each year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

The user interface (as of Sept/Oct 2023) is not that intuitive. We only use SmarterSelect annually when we run our grant cycle, so it's not something that is easily remembered. It's easy for reviewers, but for the person setting up the cycle - especially if starting a new application - it can take a bit of time to look at faqs or ask support (which is excellent) to get underway. I also would like it a lot better if the response windows showed the respondents' entire responses without having to resize each and every one. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"You get what you pay for..."
2.5/5
What do you like best about SmarterSelect?

The convenience of collecting grant applications in one place, and sharing the applications with evaluators. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmarterSelect?

So much about it is not intuitive. It's difficult to figure out how to do simple things, and every 6 months I feel like I have to re-learn it all over again. Downloading application data and evaluators' comments is cumbersome and results in bulky, hard to use spreadsheets. I wish I could include conditional questions in my applications, where a certain answer would lead the applicant to a different set of questions. I also don't like not being able to change the way that the data is organized; it is organized by the name of the applicant person, rather than the name of the applicant organization, for instance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
