The way we can create topics and sub-topics based on it has really helped us a long way. Its also easy to integrate with other tools such as GitHub and Slack that we use daily. **What do you dislike about Slab?** It's based on Markdown, and there are several limitations to it, such as advanced image handling and complex table support. Also, a lot of topics and multiple subtopics sometimes make it really overwhelming. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have been using slab for many purposes, including storing our terms and policies, technical documentations, meetings note and so on. It has helped us a lot to keep track of all the records in an organized way. It also connects with google drive.. so everything’s in one place.. Organizing pages is also easy and keeps things clean. It’s great for sharing ideas and keeping my team on the same page. **What do you dislike about Slab?** Using slab in phone’s browser is rough.. it’s slow and clunky.. I mean its not meeting the expectations.. it’s slow and missing some stuff that we do with web version. Also slab is bit pricey for my small team... and support sometimes takes extra time to fix big problems (I heard).. and also there are so many features that it can feel bit too much when we just starting out.. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** Slab fixes the mess of scattered team information and lost documents... It doesn't require almost any settings at the beginning - you can start using it right away. The structure is easy to change later on how you need it. **What do you dislike about Slab?** UI is not the best - when I am doing some things for the first time (or even second) it takes me a while to find it - it's hiding at the place when I usually don't look. Unfortunatelly it's not just me problem - when we want others to use slab we need to create quick image manual for them. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use it to keep all the company info at one place with structure. When it's data or documentation we keep in more specialized tools we use slab at least as an link tree. Its seamless integrations with many tools (Github, Height, Google Docs, etc.) make it an excellent tool for collecting raw notes and minting them in a single place. Its verification feature is underrated as it helps keep our company's documents as fresh as possible. **What do you dislike about Slab?** I think Slab could work on its collaboration functionality a little more. Having more than five people editing a Slab document can be painful - there are some concurrency issues to iron out. I also think making tables in a document is a little awkward. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's a easy & accessible online wiki. It's easy to read and reference in and outside of Slab. Because our company uses many different online tools, having a simple-to-use and robust wiki with many first-class integrations is very important. ### 11. Also, has really useful functionality for linking with Slack and Github, making it a great one stop shop when trying to find answers. **What do you dislike about Slab?** Not a huge amount to say here, I think you get what you put into it. For example, if contributers aren't actively tagging pages and making sure they are correctly connected to others then the usability goes downhill. Co-authoring is very easy; a great place for documentation to live. **What do you dislike about Slab?** The biggest downside to Slab is simply the abundance of composition or co-authoring features in other software tools that my company just happens to use already. For example, we started using Monday.com recently to do our sprint reports and task management. Monday.com has a very nice composition utility for creating and sharing written instructions/notes/engineering documents that rivals the core value proposition of Slab. After discovering this, I immediately wondered if I had too much of a good thing and ought to cancel one of my many business tool subscriptions because they overlap in certain ways (Monday.com/Slab/Github/Slack...the list goes on). **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** Slab helps my team get their biggest, most complex thoughts out of their head and onto "paper" (so to speak). I used Slab extensively during a first quarter project planning exercise; I did feel like it helped me and my senior staff engineer work together more collaboratively. ### 13. You can create extensive articles to capture in the software that is easily navigated with subtopics out to the side. **What do you dislike about Slab?** If an article is too long you will begin to experience significant issues with performance. In the office we're organized so I like the content tree. It is not too corporate-y and feels very tailored for a small-medium size business. The documents you publish can be read very easily and in fact, I believe people read them more thoroughly since it's easy on the easy (font, spacing, etc). **What do you dislike about Slab?** What I do not like about Slab is that is takes a bit of "warming up." When we first introduced it to the business it was bit difficult to put all our documents inside the platform. Also, some things like tables, which are highly functional in Notion are not so in Slab. This is some headache, but not a dealbreaker. **Recommendations to others considering Slab:** Get all documents set up first, then enter them into Slab. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a business that is scaling quickly, Slab is helping up centralize all our processes, workflows, and company documents. We have been better to support in sales cycles by having all the workflows readily available and people to view them in real time. Also, as we introduce new workflows, we can tweak them fast, make adjustments, and everyone can view them instantly. I feel like writing on Slab is a delightful experience. The integrations and rich embeds also make it relatively engaging to link in other files and tools in use. **What do you dislike about Slab?** I only really have a couple of quarrels with Slab, which are the organisation/structure of files and folders, as well as the limited template library. The layout and organisation are slightly confusing, and I find searching for files quite a stressful experience as some folders have sub-folders and others have free-floating files. It could do with a bit of work! **Recommendations to others considering Slab:** It's a beautiful tool, but I would check that it integrates with your existing tool stack ahead of using it. Super simple to get started and start drafting documentation. **What do you dislike about Slab?** When publishing, the permanent link is not user friendly, it is based on the topic/post title plus a random 8-character string appended to the URL. It does not provide a dark theme. Limited ability to manage a spreadsheet-like table, limited formatting options at the cell level. In Read mode, content does not take entire page width. **Recommendations to others considering Slab:** Slab is great for simple documentation to be shared across several teams such as technical documentation, how-to user documentation and workflow procedures. I like the fact that even if I don’t choose the whole phrase but only the part of it, and I change the font, all the phrase changes. **What do you dislike about Slab?** It is easy to lose the document (especially if it is not published), when I press enter to go the next line, it can delete the image that I pasted or it can change the font of the main heading to normal text. **Recommendations to others considering Slab:** Slab is a very practical tool when we speaking about documenting processes, sharing documentation internally and externally. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are replacing google word and in some cases google sheet documents. You can just share a link to some article instead of explaining each and everyone all the details. **What do you dislike about Slab?** - I would be happy if a search would be improved, maybe you can add some tags, so articles that are named the other way will be shown in the search result. This will help for such big companies as ours for example. As you never know how the article was named and it may take a while to find it. Sometimes it does not show what you were actually searching for. Design for slash command and popup menu is also very well done. **What do you dislike about Slab?** Typing out the desired content trips up in a few places - for example, indenting bullet points, and typing around inline code blocks. Pressing enter on the next bullet point removes the bullet entirely, instead out unindenting the bullet point by one level - would prefer that a backspace did that instead. Around inline code blocks, it's hard to selectively type within the code block or right outside it, because the cursor doesn't seem to give the option between the boundaries of the two - so you might end up typing further in one side or the other and deleting extraneous characters to compensate instead. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** Publishing documents not meant for high collaboration, but rather informative or of an announcement nature. The visuals are engaging and the document organization on the left panel keeps things handy. Global search feature is also very good. ### 29. Just type "/" and get a searchable list of elements you can use (font size, highlighting, dividers, tables, code, etc). A new feature that has been very helpful to me is "Groups." Being able to move all the team members into their respective groups saves a lot of time in managing topic membership and helps keep things organised. **What do you dislike about Slab?** While Slab is great, it feels somewhat unpolished. Whether that be because it's just not mature enough yet, or perhaps they have missed some things, it's a bit rough around the edges. 1. Permissions - Admins can demote other Admins, including the person who created the slab instance. The permissions are not granular at all, and you should be very cautious about handing out administration permissions. 2. Topics - Like the first point, there are very minimal permissions here. I feel like Slab would be great with granular permissions per user/group for each instance/group/topic/post. 3. Tables - Working with tables in Slab is somewhat hellish. There is very minimal customisation for it. You cannot set column sizes or ratios (e.g., 50%/25%/25% for three columns), and it just feels a bit too unpolished to use comfortably. Honestly, other than this, I can't really find more faults. 4. Styling - No custom fonts, no custom colours (and no custom font weights either) - While these aren't super important, they could be helpful for displaying information. **What problems is Slab solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Slab to organise the documentation for our website, a free & non-profit listing website. Previously we had a number of sporadic documents hosted on Google Docs, or pinned in a Discord channel. After migrating over to slab, we've had only smooth sailing since. Being able to import our old files from google drive and only needing to make minimal formatting changes was a wonderful experience. Now, whenever we have ideas, improvements, announcements, or more documentation, we throw it onto slab quickly and easily, and it's accessible for everyone to see. I don't see us switching back to our old system. ### 30. I don't have a preference between any of the softwares except that I will say that NONE of them make creating complex tables that easy - Confluence being the worst, then Slab, then Notion. I really love the fast knowledge search and I think that this is an under-sold aspect of the platform. If we can truly integrate all of our platforms into Slab and if the indexing and searching functionality is solid-enough, Slab could be an invaluable one-stop way for our team to find ANYTHING related to the business. At this point it does seem like there is not enough onboarding/information for new users to effectively now how to utilize this part of the tooo. **What do you dislike about Slab?** Some of the hierarchy and organization of pages and topics could be improved. Team-based page templates would also be useful. I think that Slab is misguiding users a bit with the type of templates they provide. I do not think the platform is best suited for note taking or 'living resources' like task lists, as they suggest. You can't drag and drop pages to move them into different subtopics, and you can't reorder pages using drag and drop either. It would be great to have more flexibility in organizing our pages if this feature was created. **Recommendations to others considering Slab:** I would definitely recommend using Slab. The only thing to note is that I've also used a competing platform called Notion that did similar things to Slab but had a more simple interface with fewer buttons and more intuitive movement. You could drag and drop pages to reorder them, you could also easily find pages that are in draft form or formerly deleted. It was great to add tons of content in a very organized way, plus including all external links, attachments, images, and more.
