"SketchUp is super fantastic"
5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

Coming from a CAD background, I found SketchUp to be very intuitive and filled in many gaps in the traditional CAD platform. It was straightforward to learn and become fairly proficient at. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

I dislike the way you gimble around the drawing. It seem slike you can't make a tight turn in a small space. You need to zoom way out, adjust the angle and zoom back in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

SketchUp, combined with its various plugins, is a powerful tool for architecture students.Easy to learn interface , best for beginners. Offers wide range of plugins, extensions, and tools for creating innovative 3d models. It has ability to create a photorealistuc render with the help of plugins like V-ray, Lumion, and Enscape. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

Sketchup has performance issues large and complex models can cause SketchUp to slow down or crash, especially on less powerful computers. Mastering advance extensions, tools, and plugins can take time . Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about SketchUp?

Ease of Use, Always improving, Quantity of 3rd Party Plugins and Extensions, Cost Effective for any Size of Busniess, Short Learning Curve so Intergration & Implementation into your business can be quick. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

As a Trainer of this software, the thing I dislike the most is that the User Interface is different on a Window's Platform and a Mac's, this makes it harder to teach. Windows has many more customizable user settings than Mac. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Part of the process"
5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

SketchUp is simple to use. The resources available in 3-D Warehouse add the finishing touches to the model. So easy to import AutoCAD files and turn simple plans into 3-D images. Fits easily into the project cycle on every project. I regularly work in plan view in AutoCAD and 3-D view in SketchUp which aids the design process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

As an AutoCAD user there are times when I want more control over a tool. I find it easy to precise in AutoCAD while SketchUp is a little less detailed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Latest version (2024) review"
4.5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

I like some newly added components such as the optimized graphics engine and Ambient Occlusion. I have not had much chance to try the new items in Layout but everything looks useful. The everyday functionality of the program has remained the same and does not pose any challenges to the current workflow. The fact that I updated and reinstalled all of my existing extension was very straight forward but in the future the automation of this process would be nice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

Still not a big fan of the new screen icons and the fact that most if not all extensions have not adapted to the new style. An option to use the old style as a wishlist item. Some method of transferring and updating extensions with a version upgrade is long overdue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"This software is a dream to work in... once you get the hang of it."
4.5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

After using Revit, and for a little bit Blender and Autocad for architectual modelling, I will say this after using it since 2009 I think is the most intuitive modelling software to date. I like the fact the you can import models from various sources and continue your creativity there so interaoperability is very easy. I also like the fact that after developing your ideas you can re-integrate your models into either of the programs above exporting your files in either .ifc, .dwg, and dxf. I also like that "the 3d warehouse" has a large variety of ready to use assets for you r creations. It is easy to model something that would be difficult using other applications. And with more than 100+ 3rd party plugins (some still free on some developers websites) Implementation is very simple. Whenever I get a project that needs detailed work, I frequently use Sketchup at least somewhere in my projects. It has probably the shortest learning curve of any design application. So simple that middleschoolers can use it, yet so powerful that some buildings were documented and built using it. I think this is STILL the only software of it's kind (that I know of) that you can MODEL a space by just using a few narrow angle photographs and a few key dimensions ...LONG BEFORE POINT CLOUDS EXISTED! And do it accurately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

One major thing! The Windows version STILL does not have native PDF vector imports! If they add this one import function, it would be a true game changer. It would also be nice if the ambient occlusion would add reflections or if you could add a glow or light property to your materials. Alos Sketchup should have the ability to export .rvt files. This would be huge in the Studio version. What good is importing a file if you cant re-export it back where it came from. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Sketchup is the best, most intuitive piece of software that I've ever used."
5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

I had been using CAD software for a couple years before I tried SketchUp. I've since completely stopped using those other programs. SketchUp is the best, most intuitive piece of software that I've ever used. All of the other programs that I've used seem to use the same basic principals- and they're... Okay. SketchUp seems to have been built from the ground up, on a completely new foundation. At first use I was a little confused, five minutes later I was amazed. Two weeks after I started using SketchUp I had completed a full house rendering and kitchen remodel. It took me a year to get to that point with other software and the end result wasn't anywhere close to what SketchUp was able to offer.

I could not recommend this product more. It would be impossible. Every single day I learn a new trick, or ten. It's exciting to work with a piece of software that has so much to offer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

I can't really say that there's anytihng about SketchUp that I've found lacking. I may find something down the road but as of now, it's somehow a perfect piece of software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Start drawing from 0 to 100 in no time flat"
5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

The youtube references and intuitive interface work well with the highly accurate and infinitely detailed drawing tools. Within a week I was able to work productively by simply practicing on active projects.

I also love that there are loads of you tube tutorials that allow me to grow more rapidly since I use this for personal and volunteer applications not for financial gain. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

There are some non-native interactions with other cad programs and a few interface differences from the 2d cad programs I have used in the past. A few things I used heavily require searching for alternate means to accomplish. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"It could be a powerful tool."
5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

It is a fairly simple program to learn, I would have liked to know how to use it in my university years.

I love almost everything about SketchUp.

And I have tried other software and they are not very friendly, the learning process can take many months, whereas SketchUp can be learned in a matter of days. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

I wouldn't say I like the new appearance of the toolbars, everything is chromatic which makes it difficult to locate the commands, the previous version had icons that stood out at first glance, these sky blue tones don't help me work, especially for those of us who have vision problems.

The other thing that would seem great to me is if we could work on SketchUp not only on a large scale but also on small scales, it would be a powerful program since you could practically draw everything from a tiny industrial ring to a house. All in one software! Actually, I work on industrial and architectural projects, so this could be super great.

The program should already have a realistic viewer integrated as a tool, like a Lumion but not an extension, only one more tool on the bars.

Sketchup is really an excellent program, it's just that sometimes it's tedious to look for all the tools that I need in different softwares to be able to create a complete and realistic design.

The power of sketchup is in how simple the program is.

When I'm designing I would like to only work with Autocad and SketchUp, but instead, I need to support my designs with more than one software.

I work everyday with SketchUp and AutoCad, and being honest I love both programs, I really enjoy my job only because I have these two monsters in my job computer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Hands down the best software for early concept modeling and visualization of projects any size."
4.5/5
What do you like best about SketchUp?

Very easy to adopt and use. It's all around capability for modeling and developing a concept, all the way to a final project. The way it can be expanded with plugins to make it tailor made to a specific project or problem, or to integrate it with other software programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

It tends to be unstable. I've had my share of lost work along my 20+ years of using Sketchup, I lived trhough the Last Software independent years, the Google years and now the Trimble era, and thoughout all those years it has been always a little unstable. (At least in MACOS). On its own it is not that bad but when extensions are added, which are absolutely necessary to improve it's capabilities, then it's a hit or miss of stability. This is my only gripe with Sketchup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
