Serious shortcomings compared to other software **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** al p. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2023 **What do you like best about SketchUp?** It's easy to pick up, good for using with Enscape. **What do you dislike about SketchUp?** It's lacking basic modeling features for Architecture: It's crazy to have to pay for the software and then pay for Flextools to get basic features like placing a window or door. This should be built into the software and it's a major reason I will no longer be using Sketchup in my workflow in the future. Also there's no dark mode which is standard in most modeling software. Sketchup could be incredible but imo it's going to fall behind in the future. **What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?** None, it makes my life harder using this program. ### 2. I am more likely to start using autocad's 3d modeling software just so i don't have to try to remember commands for so many softwares. **What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows clients to see a more fully realized picture of what their future space might look like. ### 3. It's very approachable for beginners with simple tools. **What do you dislike about SketchUp?** Sketchup used to be great for 3D design. it was fast, free and friendly. However, these days are gone. The new Sketchup is incredibly misleading, it's now a browser-based CAD with limited design tools, no features that set it apart and they want you to pay for it now! **What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?** There are no business problems this has solved, hence why I have switched to a new CAD ### 4. It is incredibly easy to draw lines, make shapes, and turn them into forms. I find SketchUp to be great for simple massing studies. There is also a good amount of content readily available online, if someone like myself is using the software and does not want to create components themselves. **What do you dislike about SketchUp?** I dislike many things about SketchUp, but so many others in my firm and profession love this program so I may be an anomaly. While it is a simple program to learn, there are many complexities in using this program efficiently. Things that are easier to model are no problem, but I find it faster to model more complex things in other programs. I also do not like the grouping mechanisms as I also find these inefficient and frustrating to use. **What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?** My firm utilizes SketchUp for many renderings. It is a great program to quickly model and get 3D views to our clients. The renderings can range from being on the "sketchier" side to being a more finished product. ### 5. I also hate that everything to gives "life" to the plan is an "extra" that needs to be bought and added to the program. **What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using this to help clients "see" what the plan and proposed design scheme will look like when complete. It helps them make a selection between design options. ### 6.
