The biggest issue I regularly have with Sketch is if my file is pretty large (40+ artboards), it takes a long time to download and open the file and making updates can lead to a loading spinner. Sketch has been around for long enough that no matter what your goal is, there's a way to make it happen. There's an extensive library of available plugins, tutorials, and documentation available. Despite being one of the most advanced design programs available, Sketch remains clunky and at times buggy even with a detailed release and update cadence and transparency in bug fix docs. Frequent updates mean that I often reconfigure most components to the latest Sketch systems, such as using color tokens or other features. For web and mobile wireframing, visual design, prototyping and handoff to development there's no better application out there than Sketch. The interface is clean, intuitive, and, most of all, powerful. It's easy to create instances of symbols for important/reused components. So versioning is a breeze. I think what makes Sketch such a powerful tool is that it embraces third-party plug ins. So the things Sketch doesn't do, third party developers are creating plug ins to accommodate. It'd be fantastic if there were more photo editing capabilities, so that I could cut Photoshop out of my workflow completely. Additionally, as a vector illustration software, it is not as precise or as robust as Illustrator. So, when I need to create a logo or an icon, the Adobe Creative Cloud is still my go to there. I do sometimes have issues importing vector graphics from other tools (like Illustrator), which can cause frustration. It would really be nice if Sketch could integrate better with Creative Cloud, so extracting assets from Photoshop or Illustrator were easier, quicker and more seamless. What problems is Sketch solving and how is that benefiting you? I came to Sketch a little bit reluctantly, after being a pretty loyal Adobe Creative Suite subscriber for a number of years. Ultimately, Sketch can replace much of the Creative Suite for a fraction of the cost. A Sketch license is a one-time $99 fee, as opposed to the $40/month you have to shell out for Adobe's suite of products. And it's integration with other third party tools, means that I can prototype on Sketch, without the need of an enterprise level account with a prototyping web application, so it saves even more money there. Sketch has proven to be a fantastic and practical piece of software for my company. My approach to my customers has been greatly simplified because of Sketch.  For customers, I utilize sketch to wireframe websites so they can get a mocked up feel for the site before it goes live. Sketch is easy to use and helps me to quickly experiment with different designs and ideas. The enormous number of plugins that interface with Sketch, in my opinion, is what sets it apart from its competitors. There isn't much about Sketch that I don't like. It's simple, straightforward, and performs exactly how I need it to. If I had to pick one flaw with Sketch, it would be that it is only available for the Mac operating system. Because Sketch has been around for a long time, it's starting to feel like it is carrying a lot of older UI baggage from the early days. I use Sketch to maintain older software designs for legacy product that were designed in Sketch when it was the only viable design tool. It helps my designs according to the Persona that I am designing for, and I can receive feedback on wireframes allowing for quicker resolution with constant User Feedback. Sketch app has great capabilities in designing and maintaining components and libraries. The way, multiple libraries can be managed and used in a single file is great. In components, I also loved the simplicity Sketch provides to allow swapping/replacing one component with another. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Sketch? While Sketch has great capabilities but its first-mover advantage can't win all the races. I am forced to compare Sketch with Figma and XD. There are a lot of reasons why I have hated Sketch in the 2 years that I had to use it before switching to Figma. 1. Its limited scope to MacOS prevents non-designer teammates (writers, PMs, leaders) to collaborate with designers. 2. Poor/hidden prototyping capabilities force designers to depend on another tool (Invision) and for interactions, designers would look for another tool. 3. RAM hungry application. Sketch app would always make my MacbookPro a washing machine that makes a lot of noise. While handling a heavy file, I always had to quit all other apps. 4. Until one uses Auto-layout and Variants in Figma, they don't realize what they are missing. Sketch is missing this opportunity also to make designers' job easy. The upsides of Sketch are that the product features and maturity are very high. It lacks a very critical feature that I know they've made efforts at resolving, which is real-time collaboration.
