As a CMS, Sitecore is top notch comparing with other market leads. The Multilingual and Multi Language supports stands it out.
Taking lead in adapting the latest technologies is what makes it stand out. No to mention the versioning capabilities it offers, allowing you to have complete control for your all the changes and track them without hesitation. The User admin workflows allowing you to have complete control over the Sitecore Solution, and giving freedom with the selection of nodes respective to the Users and their roles. I little too much for the new developers to get started.
A little complicated for the configuration stuff.
I bit costly compared to the other Content management Systems available, but as it is a Enterprise level CMS, so I think it is justified. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sitecore offers a wide array of tools and controls to manage content, for the full team: from front end, to content management, to marketing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Everything from the moment of signing the contract requires a Sitecore Implementation Partner: installation, development, deployment, UI and content function customizations, and so on. We love our partner, but there is no such thing as an affordable Sitecore partner, and that puts a serious damper on ongoing development and marketing efforts. Standing up a subsite is equally complex to the initial site, as well - there is almost no savings in continuing to create additional subsites in Sitecore, and that's meant that where budget and timeline requires - which is often - we continue to create marketing sites and landing pages in Wordpress and other platforms.
In addition, Sitecore is not a simple or intuitive system. Using Sitecore requires lots of specialized training, which is very hard to find (and also read: expensive), and the quality of Sitecore trainers varies GREATLY. Documentation - while volumnious - fails to capture the needs of daily users, and even for developers is sparse. Sitecore's software support is spotty, as well; we've found the solution to a recent (expensive) problem by doing the opposite of what was recommended by the Sitecore team. That is very frustrating. Sitecore as content management platform is good for Authoring and publishing. Personalization and Analytics is good. The platform is highly scalable with the latest architecture. Multiple sites and multilingual support. The newer version support better developer experiences. They improve the experience and features with the industry standard. The new addition of container support and K8's bring platform independence. Support for GDPR and other privacy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The initial setup will be a challenge without a experienced architect. Upgrade path for the older version up to 8 will be difficult. The Sitecore is changing the process in the newer version though. Upgrading existing Sitecore version is complicated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It was great to see how many different possibilities one has and how deep the functionalities are developed. It really gives a good tool to enhance customer experience on the platform or website. The Learning hub with training sessions were really helpful to me to work myself into the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think that some times the editor is a bit unhandy, and you have to switch between different menu items. However, strict rules and the details are essential for big companies designing a website in different languages as well as for different countries. I think it is not a tool for beginners nor to learning by doing.
In the Test-Environment it was loading slowly sometimes, which was a bit of a pitty when showing new development things to customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The editor is extremely powerful and the built-in A/B testing tool is also pretty powerful, which cuts down significantly on the stack I need as a marketer in order to really push the boundaries on what works and what doesn't. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Having the ability to create, store, and track test cases within the Experience Editor would be a really great help. There is still some appeal to use dedicated third-party testing tools because of this, but ultimately the vast majority of tests can be built and executed in the Experience Platform. Sitecore Experience Platform gives engineers the tools to make marketing teams absolutely Awesome by providing an extensible framework for delivering reliant personalized digital experiences to their customers. I really enjoy working with the Sitecore Rules Engine, Experience Profiles, the path analyzer, and I love the nearly unlimited extensibility and my ability to integrate it with anything I have needed to. I would love to have an onprem option written in .net core that can run in a Linux container rather than windows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When you master Sitecore editor and experience tools, you will appreciate the power this platform gives you over you content management. There are basic components that are coming with it like grids and other page layout elements and one can also have custom module programmed be devs. The content can be reused, the SEO can be added as well as tracking. Sitecore has a great way to integrate with there platforms, like Wista or Youtube, there are tools to manage digital assets, create vanity URLs and redirects, and a lot more. The learning curve is steep. Some features are hard to figure and the documentation is not always helpful. I tried once to find out how to create dynamic list of states for the custom form and got stuck even after reaching for the support. Also, some operations like building grids and adding content to the cells take time and patience. Unlike, for example, in Kentico, you cannot just duplicate the panel with additional elements in it, you have to create everything a new or ask developers to built an additional custom module. Lots of built-in features like image re-sizer and various ways to handle common problems. Once you get used to the way templates, layouts, and content gets created, making new pages becomes quite fast and simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
High learning curve and a high barrier to entry. It's tough to use this platform unless you are working with a large enough company that leverages the platform. There are many features that "go to waste" because it can be hard to implement everything with time constraints. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sitecore is always improving and providing a better development and content entry experience. The tools, community, options and modules allow for a robust addition to a Marketing Tech stack. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Installation and upgrade varies in ease. Sometimes its smooth and easy, other times, not at all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its evolved customization is getting better with all modules and implementation. Getting a deeper understanding of AI & could platform like SaaS, Azure, Personalization, market place, Sitecore Hub Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Coming to the integration with UI seems to be a little tricky. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Great content supporting software

Sometimes the screen freezes while using the software, other than that it's a great software Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It has an easy to use interface, component based which makes it easy to use. It has the potential to drive your business forward but you need to take the time to take advantage and explore technology such as personalisation, content tagging and personas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are quite a few similar ways to do the same thing, some basic functionality you would expect doesn't always work such as cancelling a personalisation experiment in a user friendly way. There is a lot behind the tech and it can be daunting where to start Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Great developer support/experience. The C# development platform/approach is very extensible and well organized. The Editor UI is good/very good (although I think AEM is a bit slicker/easier to use). I like working in the Microsoft stack and the Sitecore community is amazing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sitecore is a bit complex which is fairly natural, but it can be hard to get a foothold into a new topic. In particular, the API documentation and examples are not very complete. Especially the API documentation. I don't understand why I should have to to install and use dotPeek just to find out what options are available in the API. I do like the example sites, but it can be a bit confusing to figure out which one to use and they can get out of date. I also wish the was a published SXA training option. I found out today that if you ask for it you can get a class, but we weren't aware of that option and we really would have benefited from it a couple of months ago. I have also found the documentation/explanation of xConnect hard to grasp. More documentation/training would be very helpful. In fact, an advanced class on installing, maintaining and optmizing SItecore would be very helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I really like the core cms part, the architecture behind it and the way that almost everything is customizable and possible. I think "newer" stuff like the rules engine is great too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think there is a lot of the marketing features, that are not robust enough and has too many bugs.
I think it's a shame that web forms for marketers seemed to have lost features and have more bugs when it went form Sitecore 7 to 8, and that it lost even more features when it got replaced by Sitecore Foms in Sitecore 9. This is a very important feature for a lot of customers, and I think Sitecore should focus more on core features like that.
I also think that Sitecore needs to revisit and modernize some of the core cms parts of the system, instead of only focusing on the new marketing features.
I don't understand why something like JSS that should be a basic part of Sitecore is so expensive to start using. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have enjoyed the journey of transitioning from other CMS platforms to Sitecore. I can honestly say I have become much more well rounded and careful developer. The Visual Studio environment with it's intellisense and code validating tools coupled with a Sitecore Implementation Partner (XCentium) who enforces strict code reviews have certainly force our in-house team to write better, more robust code. A solid codebase equals a reliable and performant site, which is first for our customer's experience and impression of our company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I dislike the amount of time I spend waiting for builds, app pools, etc. Perhaps there are some improvements we can make to our setup, but the wait times are frustrating. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
the extensiblity, ease of integration, taking your product to the next level in connected systems. really I enjoy working and developing on sitecore which is very rich in a lot of ways. I have worked with sitecore since version 5.3 and the progress during the years and where it is now is a testatement to the greatness as a product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Hard to find a good consultant that can give you a product that follows good architecture and principles together with best practices without keeping an eye on every single detail of the work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can be modified and customized to complete any function. Has many features that can be used and integrated. The complete package has more elements than most content management platform that would require 3rd party software to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can feel overwhelming by the amount of features and parameters it contains. The out-of-the-box features are too often not quite working as demoed. Having step-by-step or "for dummies" documentation to implement these features from a vanilla instance would be extremely helpful. Also, breaking those down by role (developer, ops, content manager), would make them useful to share with end-users.
UX inconsitencies and clarity. Newer UI and features are more comprehensible, but too often we need to hand-hold users to help them find a feature or go through a process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We've been using Sitecore for about a decade now, and it's proven it's it's value through and through. Our favorite thing about it, is the way it brings together tech and marketing teams for deeper collaboration on what a website should look like and do for users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Due to the complexity of the solution, it's not easily accessible to customers in terms of building on the platform. Many customers still find it hard to maximize on the actual full benefits of the platform, and tend to plateau soon after just migrating from whatever solution they were using previously. It takes time and commitment to really leverage what Sitecore has to offer, and most customers feel some impatience around seeing results faster (whether that's in the form of conversions or otherwise).
