I like that with the Sitecore Digital Experience Platform, digital solutions come together in one place. I also enjoy using the marketing solutions it offers.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The learning opportunities for content editors are currently limited because they are paid with credits, whereas a good platform should offer a stimulating learning experience. The initial installation of Sitecore Digital Experience Platform was not so easy.

I use Sitecore Digital Experience Platform for managing content, and I like that digital solutions come together in one place.

  ### 2. Powerful and Flexible, but Complex and Costly to Implement and Maintain

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore DXP offers strong flexibility for managing complex, enterprise‑level digital experiences, with robust personalization, content management, and integration capabilities that scale well across large organizations.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore DXP can be complex to implement and maintain, often requiring significant technical expertise and ongoing development resources, which may increase time to value and overall cost for some organizations.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitecore DXP solves the challenge of managing complex, multi‑channel digital experiences by centralizing content, personalization, and integrations. This benefits our team by enabling more consistent experiences, better targeting, and scalable governance across a large organization.

  ### 3. Sitecore: Scalable Enterprise CMS with great capabilities, but a steep learning curve

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manoj B. | Assistant Manager - Digital Marketing, Marketing and Advertising, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The CMS is dynamic with so many csapabilities. It is perfectly suited for big enterprises which have multiple different websites and the websites are content heavy with multiple landing pages. The capability to run different websites with different brand guidelines within same CMS is marveloous. I really like how you can do content management, lead generation, personalization at scale within same platform.

It is perfect choice for brands in hospitality, theme parks, recreational activities as these websites are heavy with loads of contents.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore gets a bit tedious to learn for someone who is very new to the platform. It requires significant developer support for customizations and implementations.

The navigation is complex which is not easy at times. And updating content is tiresome where you have to published the content first, then add the content to component and publish component, then add component on page presentation and take the page live. If there are simultaneously content being published, the uniform queue sometime starts showing error so you have to publish it again.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For us, we are a big hospitality brand with 4 properties and 20+ restaurants which each has their own website and landing pages. Sitecore is the perfect tools where we have been able to create these websites with their own brand guidelines, brand colors, UI/UX and different components.

Even our booking engine where guests make their reservations are also on Sitecore which is easier to manage the workflow. It is easy to manage with other data warehouse to collect the booking details and with CRM Salesforce Marketing Cloud to send automated emails.

Lead generation form has been a great addition for us to generate leads where we have been to send automated emails directly from CMS which saves times.

Apart from that, it support integrations with so many platforms like analytics tools, personalization, CRM, web analytics tools.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We're glad to hear that Sitecore's dynamic capabilities and scalability have been a great fit for your enterprise needs. We understand that the learning curve can be steep, but we offer various resources and support to help with the onboarding process. We appreciate your feedback and are constantly working to improve the user experience.

  ### 4. Powerful Customization, But Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Highly customizable, extensible, and generally any thought can be realized.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Extremely opaque, little documentation (though that is improving), and at the moment not much is "intuitive".

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps manage content, and deliver different experiences to many places from the same base content.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We're glad to hear that you find Sitecore Digital Experience Platform highly customizable and extensible. We understand your concerns about the learning curve and documentation, and we are continuously working to improve the user experience and provide more comprehensive resources for our users.

  ### 5. Great Headless Features, But UI and Publishing Need Improvement

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Headless is the best part and the permissioning for the roles of the users.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The UI is outdated, publishing takes way too long, there are a lot of security patches that are hard to implement. The application also gets buggy really quickly for example the versioning for the items gets messed up a lot.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving the problem of content marketers needing to push out web pages quickly. Makes it easier for our company to quickly add content.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> Thank you for highlighting the strengths of our headless features and user permissioning. We acknowledge your concerns about the UI, publishing speed, security patches, and versioning issues. Your feedback helps us identify areas for improvement and we are committed to enhancing the platform based on customer input.

  ### 6. Great Support, But Resource-Heavy for a Single CMS

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kiran R. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore Customer Support is excellent..

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Too many resources to run a single CMS platform. Reliance on Azure.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Omnichannel support and content management

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> Thank you for the positive feedback about our customer support. We acknowledge the resource-heavy nature of our platform and the reliance on Azure. We are actively working on enhancing the efficiency of our platform and exploring alternative deployment options to address these concerns.

  ### 7. Powerful Platform, But Stability and Complexity Are Challenging

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Easy to quickly make changes. Content hub useful.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

We are using old version in Managed cloud contract but we have frequent downtime on websites. Infrastructure is complicated and needs lots of tweaking/changing to keep sites stable.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing multiple websites across multiple countries.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We apologize for the inconvenience you've faced with the platform's stability and complexity. Our team is dedicated to addressing these issues and ensuring a smoother experience for our users. Your insights are valuable to us and will be used to drive improvements in our infrastructure and platform.

  ### 8. Extensible Platform with Outstanding Marketing and Analytics

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Extensibility, marketing and analytics capabilities

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Can be difficult to understand for users new to Sitecore

Content management

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We're glad to hear that you appreciate the extensibility, marketing, and analytics capabilities of Sitecore Digital Experience Platform. We understand that the platform can be challenging for new users, and we're continuously working to improve our user experience and provide better support and resources for new users.

  ### 9. Sitecore is really slow, and necessitate a lot of memory to be able to work with speed and agility

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Digital experience and User experience, allowing A/B testing and different user journeys. Easy layout and facility to develop custom components is a must and is satisfying.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

slowliness when browsing through multiple assets medialibrary. memory usage is crazy as soon as the structureof your site is huge and has a considerable number of pages.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

easy user journey based on what the user has already set and view. difficult to put in place since really relative to what our marketing and site strategy is.

  ### 10. Offers a customizable digital experience

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore helps marketers own and tailor every experience they deliver to their customers (current and potential). Sitecore can be a great addition to an organization’s marketing tech stack for end-to-end digital marketing experiences.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

If you’re a marketer who is new to using web content management software, the learning and setting-up tailored experiences of the software may be difficult without the help of developers who are skilled at configuring Sitecore.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitecore made email marketing for events a seamless process, using marketing automation to target contacts at specific points and different stages of the customer journey.

  ### 11. Be sure to buy only what you need

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Editing experience while bulky, does allow for almost a wysiwyg experience

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Everyone bags on xDB so the composable approach with a la cart integration may be a better fit

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting off our old CMS was mandatory and Sitecore was the best option

  ### 12. Building blocks for future success

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore have a library of solutions that can work together or fit in as modules with other tech stacks. The Experience platform is just one of them.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

As Sitecore is evolving at a lightening pace, it can make parts redundant before new are ready. There is also a need for better comms on what is new.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For my clients, it is adding to their tech stack and the ability to have "everything in one place". Using AI and power tools and managing their content for real-time application.

  ### 13. Straightforward but limited

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I think it's fairly simple to navigate and once you get some experience with it, changes are quick and easy. It also provides access for a great amount of users while allowing safeguards to go through a few superusers.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

There are some glitches that require an intimate HTML knowledge which isn't easy for non-developers. The backend platform doesn't offer a beautiful user experience.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With a large website and 50+ content users, sitecore helps our organization keep our 13,000 page site up to date in real time.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We're glad to hear that you find Sitecore easy to navigate and efficient for making quick changes. We understand that HTML knowledge can be a barrier for non-developers, and we are continuously working to improve the user experience for all users.

  ### 14. It's very powerful, and very complicated

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael W. | Digital Marketing Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Sitecore can just about do anything you want it to do. There's a great deal of capabilities, APIs, and ways of linking in additional capabilities and platforms. It's powerful, can be quick, customizable, and can have personalization options.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

You absolutely can't implement this yourself. You'll need a partner. It's also got an extremely steep learning curve - it does not look, feel, or function like any other CMS you're familiar with.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

What are your specific needs of your CMS? What is your budget for implementation? Do you have in-house support capabilities? Who will own and manage it?

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a CMS that was powerful, scalable, and integrates within our current marketing technology stack. It also need to be usable worldwide, and integrate with translation services.

  ### 15. Very raw impression of sitecore as a developer

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Honestly I am not qualified to write a formal review at current stage, as we are just at the POC stage of implementation sitecore as the new CMS solution in our product, that's the reason I give a Neutral rate (no good or no better at this point from my point of view, not product ). We had XP1 installation and development training. Few things I find good about sitecore are: 1) It seem pretty easy to create and publish content and content structure 2) The multiple sites and versioning and multi-language support 3) If using .Net framework to build the layout, it seems pretty straightforward 4) The personalization capability seems very promising.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The whole Sitecore seems lag in the header-less offering. The installation, deployment and scalebility seems kind of having too much complexity. As it could involves a lot of database instances, search indexes to scale, it only resides in windows environment, not flexible in custom integration, not easy to containerize etc. The JSS as the web service offering is still a big question mark in my mind

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are mainly to use Sitecore XP as the new CMS over existing open source CMS (drupal), so far we are still in POC stage, so no real benefits has been realized yet.

  ### 16. Powerful platform that could improve the marketer's experience

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I like how comprehensive all of the features are for the platform and the ability to connect to all of your professional applications. It is clear that this is for mid to large companies that want to make the digital experience core to their strategy.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

How developer-necessary the platform is in order to enable all of the functionality. I understand that you will always need to invest additional time and resources to get the most out of any tech investment, but it seems that a lot of these features could be a bit more OOTB or Sitecore-directed implementation and that partners/developers would be needed to really customize and extend the platform, not just to get you up an running. We are still stuck with a system that really only operates as a CMS and that is due to a poor partner decision.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have A LOT of content and we service many different industries and services. We are using Sitecore XP to deliver that content to all of the relevant audiences and create recirculation opportunities for our content based on content-type, industry/service tags, etc. We have also used it to help connect multiple separate sites on the platform for a more cohesive experience.

  ### 17. Digital Engagement Manager

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chrissy S. | Digital Engagement Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I like the full marketing portal and experience profile that is continuing to be built out. I also like the granularity that we are able to create goals, campaigns and taxonomies throughout the setup for more automation and leveraging greater efficiencies.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I dislike how clunky some of the architecture can be and the amount of workarounds and development that is needed in order to share content across a global setup.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving for a global company with semi-localized content. With Sitecore we are able to scale content across the global by simply cloning or sharing with different nodes.

  ### 18. Sitecore plays nice with others

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

My production team likes the ease of in building content through the Content Editor. It is easy to map components, and to hook into plug-ins like Smartling and Brightcove.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The opportunity of Sitecore Experience Platform is massive, however complexities with my team's deployment makes the Experience Platform inconsistent. We fall back on mapping page components in the presentation details. In progress pages are reviewed as pages in a browser, instead of using the in-context preview feature of Experience Editor. Our development team worries about performance issues inherent with xDB and we are not fully realizing the tool's opportunity.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using workflows to enable marketers to request web content builds directly in Sitecore. We have enabled over 30 non-technical contributors to jumpstart build requests, with proper guard rails in place to ensure quality control.

  ### 19. Allows marketers to update their own content/imagery/pages

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stacey S. | Application Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

granting authorship of content to the SME (Marketers) w/o requiring coding exp.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

currently on 8.2. Lack of consistency w/ UI. UI doesn't work well on lower resolutions. Shared/final layout - after migrating from 7.2 it caused a ton of issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Make sure you know Sitecore before implementing to make sure your implementation is correct and flexible (thinking of future state) so that it can be utilized fully and not constrained due to over customization

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Governance of content (workflow), consistent voice, free up dev teams to work on functionality rather than content.

  ### 20. It sounded great at the time

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I imagine it would be awesome if we ever learn how to use it.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Having a terrible implementation partner, using Digizuite - which, for example, doesn't let you get statistics on video views or how much of a video was viewed on a website. It's ok, it's only 2020.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None yet. But we hope to be on the journey to improving.

  ### 21. Global Digital Project Manager

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Will B. | Global Digital Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

WYSIWYG interface. Intuitive experience as a content author. Highly customizable tool.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Experience Editor tends to be slow. The highly customizable aspect also makes it more complicated than other CMS systems.
High cost of all the "add-ons" that could make Sitecore more powerful for our organization.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We built a large system to create websites for each of our member firms. One platform for all firms in our network = better brand standards, rules etc.

  ### 22. Overly complicated

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Cosmetics | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

A focus on content instead of commerce (which is what most other platforms focus on these days). The tool is robust and you can do a lot with it.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I find the platform to be overly complicated, and requires more technical knowledge from the business users than should be necessary. As I said, you can do a lot with it, but it requires a huge amount of investment and development to make it possible. Not very "out of the box"

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Running a global program, for brands with different country localizations across the world.

  ### 23. Stuck in promises

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick V. | Project manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Flexibility. No limitations on technical possibilities.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Stuck in promises, towards partners and their customers. Most actual example (on the project I work or) is the release and follow-up on ScForms. The functional limitations that were present at launch are (for the most part) still there.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Commercial- and UX improvements on web- and e-comm projects.

  ### 24. marketing automation professional

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I like the ability to create personalized content for website visitors and customer profiles

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

EXM. EXM. EXM! We're on 8.2 and honestly it should not even be included

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Actually I find that using EXM creates more problems than it solves. We have issues uploading and indexing lists every day

  ### 25. Technical Learning curve is too high

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

With proper implementation, power to create content for non-technical Marketing personnel is great!

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Initial implementation and configuration in a scaled environment is a nightmare. Also, having to use community articles and 3rd party tools and apps to work with Sitecore is a Massive problem for Sitecore. You should have this all figured out.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Waste of money if you don't know what you are doing. Excellent potential if you do.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

empowering non-technical marketers to create dynamic content quickly. Content can be changed or fixed quickly.

  ### 26. UX guy who thinks he's a developer (but definately not), trying to make the best of Sitecore

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Experience editor when the templates are SUPER flexible so I don't finish a project and immediately have to spend money on IT to get more design flexibility.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Not much really... For me, its budgetary. I spend more than I'd prefer on getting functionality and templates built that are not out of the box functionality in Sitecore.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Get a good implementer who can help guide you.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to keep pace with the industry and mature a digital experience.

  ### 27. Sitecore review

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Our entire company is using it so it will best in the long run.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The user experience has been very difficult for Content Authors/Editors. I don't like having both a content editor and an experience editor. The CMS we had before sitecore was much easier.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Serving up Process Content to our Agency Owners and Staff and Sales Leadership to enhance Customer Experience and Business Owner success.

  ### 28. Works well

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tia R. | Web Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

  ### 46. An awesomely powerful CMS... but with great power comes great responsibility.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2017

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Because Sitecore is such a powerful platform on which you can develop whatever you can dream up, every time we've said "I wish we the CMS could do [whatever]," we've realized we could develop or configure it to do just about anything we want. This is a great benefit of the product. However, that also means that we are having to do a lot more development and tweaking than we have with other CMSes. You can do just about anything with it, but you will have to plan to develop it: templates, mobile responsiveness, SEO implementation, workflows, etc.

We also like many of the advanced marketing analytics, campaign, and personalization capabilities and are looking forward to using these features – but we have not utilize them much yet. These were some of the features that led us to choose the platform.

Note: We are new to Sitecore and in the midst of transitioning a large University website and intranet to it, so my comments are coming from the perspective of a relatively new customer (≈ 1 yr owning the product). But I experience with many other commercial and open source CMSes over the last 20 years, so feel I have a good understanding of how the product compares to others.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

There can be a steep learning for Sitecore, especially for those coming from WordPress or other CMSes targeted at a simplified content editor experience. The application seems to be making strides in the area of user-friendliness, however. The 8.0 update and Launchpad UI is much less intimidating for new users. But the Content Editor experience can still be intimidating for new users and the Experience Editor can also be complex and confusing for inexperienced editors.

Also, because Sitecore is a proprietary, commercial, enterprise-class platform, it is not as easy to find and acquire plug-ins/extensions and some of the best ones available can be pricey. Likewise Sitecore developers and content editors with experience on the platform are also harder to find (though a good .NET developer should be able to learn Sitecore quickly). Sitecore seems to be gaining momentum, however, so this may be changing.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moving public website and creating completely intranet on the platform for a mid-size, private university. Approximately 5,000 pages being built across the two sites, coordinating with around 500 business users.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We appreciate your detailed feedback on your experience with Sitecore Digital Experience Platform. It's great to hear that you find the platform powerful and capable of meeting your development needs. We understand the challenges of the learning curve and availability of experienced developers, and we are actively working to enhance the user-friendliness and accessibility of resources for our customers. Thank you for choosing Sitecore for your university website and intranet transition.

  ### 49. BackOffice administrator

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Environmental Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

SiteCore is a big machine.
This tool is one of the heaviest and expandable CMS (Content Management System) I've been working on. Everything car be done but requires most of the time specific developments. It means that a SiteCore project costs a lot.
If your Company has a Website Project, eCommerce, Corporate and so on, SiteCore is an option.
What I like the best in SiteCore is its flexibility. Nothing is fixed. Your solution can always be improved through many assistants. And if standard CMS features doesn't fill your needs, then your can explore Marketing extension, search engine optimisation options, emailing system add-ons and much more.
The roles management is also very very powerful. You can fine tune each profile or manage them by group.
One of the best feature we are using is the font end page editor. In it, a user with the correct rights will be able to place, within an predefine layout, components in different place-holders. It's very very convenient as soon as you need to add new pages with specific contents.
To finish, i would say that SiteCore is not easy to learn to use but it serve the purpose. There are too many features to being able to describe them, but the key I appreciate are are there.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

It's complex, not really user friendly and not easy to learn.
Its an heavy tool, meaning that when you want to deploy a SiteCore solution, it can't be done like if you want to deploy a Wordpress Blog. It requires a lot of parameters, a dedicated IT company to manage the dev project, a team in your company to handle the project as well, and time.
The probably most disliked aspect of SiteCore is its user interface. Old fashion, and too complex, it's a real cons for users used to do everything on nice interfaces.
There are pros and cons, but SiteCore should be considered only for big Websites and for companies with large internal IT and Communication team.
Lastly, the cost. It's not free at all. In addition to the IT external company needed to setup the initial solution as well as to do any update, the SiteCore licence itself is expensive.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Think twice before to jump into SiteCore. As such, this solution is most of the time, deployed via a 3rd party IT company. Ask advises and compare with other similar solution. Keep in mind that SiteCore is not a user friendly CMS.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had to find a solution that allows us to publish thousands of contents through several main websites as well as in different language.
To stay flexible, we have imagine a Tagging solution that let us, basically, specifying in SiteCore that we want to display in "This" page contents tagged with this keyword and this keyword.
An easy to understand the concept is to imagine a recipient page, used to display news on our french office website. SiteCore will dig into our silo of content and will display all the ones tagged "News, French, ...".
This very flexible approach requires to be strict and rules on how to use tags. This is an internal process.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on Sitecore. We appreciate your insights on its flexibility, powerful features, and the challenges you've faced with its complexity, user interface, and cost. Your recommendations for others considering Sitecore are valuable considerations. We appreciate your feedback.

  ### 50. Powerful, but not the most intuitive CMS around

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Megan W. | Marketing Manager, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2015

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

It's extremely powerful. Sitecore has functionality to allow a large company to have multiple users making modifications with intricate security and permissions. You can also have multiple languages and globalisation of a website for use with global companies. Adding new pages is easy, along with editing and making modifications to existing pages. From this aspect, it's pretty quick and easy for someone to learn how to modify their website.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Although Sitecore is powerful, it's also clunky and way too much of a system for a smaller company to use. I have used several different CMS systems, and Sitecore is probably one of the most challenging. If you don't use a process with several steps for adding, editing and approving content, you are left with several seemingly unnecessary steps to complete. Adding a new page or image takes several clicks. Depending on the browser used, I have seen issues where certain functionality isn't accessible, or areas of the admin portal are greyed out. This could of course be only in the environment I use, but it does seem a bit finicky at times.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Do your research. Find out if this product is truly the right product for your company. It's a powerful beast, but make sure it's the beast you actually need. Also, if you don't have someone in house that knows Sitecore, you will need to use company to help with any cosmetic changes needed.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a business website, and using Sitecore allows us to modify and edit content. We use a third party to make the customisations of the site, but it is hosted by our company. To be honest I am not sure if any real benefits have been realised yet. There are still too many frustrations. Its not that Sitecore is a bad product, it's perhaps too much of a product for what we truly need.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience with Sitecore. We understand the importance of usability for smaller companies and will take your feedback into consideration for future improvements.
