## Sitecore Digital Experience Platform Reviews
  ### 1. Too big and unfriendly

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

I suppose if your developers are VERY skilled at configuring Sitecore, if your editors can live with the editorial experience, and if your business doesn't care about the monolithic construct that is Sitecore, it is sort of practical to have everything under one roof. Provided of course that it works better for you than a best-of-breed, composable approach.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Most of it, I'm afraid. First and foremost I truly loathe the lack of editor focus displayed by the product. Even when you go for (and spend countless hours developing) an in-page-editing experience, the editors are confused by the mix of in-page/WYSIWYG and panels brought in from the Sitecore backoffice for picking content/media/you name it. And if you rely purely on backoffice editing, things go from bad to worse. The backoffice does not cater at all for editors. It is very functionally driven, and there are seemingly no useful extension points for tailoring the editorial experience, i.e. to create custom editors for complex editorial needs.

I also really dislike the monolithic approach of suite-based products. I have yet to see it create more value than hand-picking products that suit your business needs perfectly, and stitching them together in a composable architecture.

The deployment and required infrastructure for Sitecore is an absolute nightmare, compared to the alternatives - particularly if you compose an architecture based primarily on SaaS products instead.

Developer productivity is quite low in comparison to the alternatives.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Seriously consider going for a composable architecture instead.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitecore solves the same problems as any other suite-based product, namely having everything under one roof. This however comes with the price of complete vendor lock-in and making you work for the product/the way the product wants you to work, instead of picking products that work for you and in the way you want to work.

  ### 2. Sitecore is powerful...but hard and the customer experience is terrible.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

It is a powerful tool that can support global sites. Great multi-lingual capabilities and like the .NET synergies. Good partner network.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Once you are a client, there is little to no support. Sitecore as a company is very hard to communicate with and our reps have turned over three times already. Very hard to do deploys and our current site has performance issues that are difficult to solve.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Be very careful which implementation partner you select. Ours was terrible and made our experience difficult. We are still trying to correct the issues they created.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Have created a global, multi-lingual, multi-tenant site with hundreds of content authors around the world.

  ### 3. Quickly personalize experien

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Allows us to display content based on on store location. We often have different amenities offered so it makes for a better guest experience if we can share more relevant information.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

There are often too many different steps needed to make one small change.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes us more efficient

  ### 4. Interface not intuitive, clunky product overall

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gina G. | Assistant Director of Marketing, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2017

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Once you surmount the learning curve, Sitecore does allow you to make website updates.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The interface is not intuitive, causing a lot of problems for people that are not technically savvy.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Updating webpages.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand that the learning curve can be challenging, and we are committed to making the interface more user-friendly for all our customers.

  ### 5. Awful. Far too difficult.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Not much, not much at all. Actually hated it.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Too expensive, too difficult. Hard to find Licensed developers, who are also expensive and tell you 'it takes as long as it takes' which makes missed deadlines a familiar scenario.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

Do not use it.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None. We were handcuffed into using it because Sitecore had sold it in as the clients CMS solution.

  ### 6. Frustrating, to say the least

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

On a very basic level the backend is user friendly, no need to know coding.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Simple features, including embedding twitter posts into blogs, do not work. Also, blogs and photos take time to populate which can be frustrating when posting timely posts.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

N/A

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We're sorry to hear about your frustrating experience. We appreciate your feedback on the backend usability and the issues you've encountered with features like embedding Twitter posts and blog/photo loading times. We'll share this with our team for further improvement.

  ### 7. Horrible Implementation

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

We were promised a lot of bells and whistles with Sitecore. They offer training, which we did send an employee to, which is nice. There is apparently the ability to perform remarketing and advanced scripting.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The software is horrible. Perhaps it was our installation, but if a product is that hard to implement and install, then it cannot be considered very user friendly. It can take hours for us to publish one change on the website, and then it usually fails and we have to start over from the beginning. The media library is atrocious, and the .aspx file extensions make everything unnecessarily complicated. The templating system is a disaster and we are praying that we can switch to Wordpress.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

A recommended installer

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is our CMS for two of our websites. It has not really solved anything, except giving us some sort of web presence. We have seen very few benefits, since the software is mostly unusable.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We apologize for the difficulties you have experienced with Sitecore. We understand your frustration and would like to address your concerns. Please reach out to our support team so we can assist you with resolving the installation and publishing issues.

  ### 8. Not the best CMS out there

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

DO not like anything about Sitecore and would recommend other low maintenance..

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Too high maintennace .lot of ppl pretend to be specialist but are really low level VB developers

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None. I use other CMS

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We value your input and apologize for any inconvenience. If you have specific suggestions for improvement, we would love to hear them.

  ### 9. Sitecore Review

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

Our national office, which hosts our website, requires that we use Sitecore as a CMS.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

It's not very intuitive as a CMS, and I've use a lot of management systems.

**Recommendations to others considering Sitecore Digital Experience Platform:**

I strongly prefer WordPress to Sitecore, based on the ease of use. However, it you don't have a choice, I would suggest keeping all of your Media items well organized.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They host our website, which serves as our communications hub. This CMS does allow our national office to host multiple chapter websites under the same central hub.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We hear your preference for WordPress and your feedback about the intuitiveness of Sitecore. We are continuously striving to make our platform more user-friendly and will take your input into account for future enhancements. Thank you for your recommendation about organizing media items.

  ### 10. A convoluted CMS

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food Production | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2016

**What do you like best about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

You can eventually bend Sitecore to your will, but it isn't easy. It punishes you for knowing what you're doing, yet doesn't make things easy for non-developers. It's not the worst CMS I've ever used, but it's close.

**What do you dislike about Sitecore Digital Experience Platform?**

The UX is a nightmare. Sitecore uses the Microsoft ribbon menu style, along with a desktop metaphor. It's overkill. Images are stored in one folder with randomized names, so their filenames are irrational. The versioning system is convoluted. The approval system is so convoluted that I've often resorted to screenshots and email instead.

**What problems is Sitecore Digital Experience Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has allowed us to corral many sites under one platform. It has allowed centralization.

**Official Response from Marcus Cooper-Leary:**

> We're sorry to hear about the difficulties you've faced with Sitecore. Your feedback regarding the UX, file management, and approval process is important to us. We strive to address these issues to provide a more seamless experience for all users.
