"User-Friendly & Easy to Navigate Without CFD/FEA Expertise"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

The user-friendly interface allows me to jump back in and confidently set up new simulations after not using the platform for a while. It's easy to navigate without a comprehensive background in CFD or FEA. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

The lack of predefined reports/templates for sharing results. It is time consuming to pull screenshots at different angles and with different filters shown each time to put into a manually created PDF with manually entered results for dissemination. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

Simscale allows my team to validate concepts much earlier in our process and identify thermal issues from a CAD model and iterate well before thermal testing on the first prototype, leading to shorter test cycles and faster design pivots prior to tooling investments. "powerful and intuitive cloud-based FEA-tool with great support"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

SimScale combines an intuitive browser-based interface with the flexibility of a professional FEM solver. Onboarding was quick and easy, even coming from ANSYS, and the UI lets me focus on building solid engineering models instead of spending time on setup or IT infrastructure.

The biggest upsides for me (as a freshly started engineering service provider) are the excellent technical support (fast, personal, and very helpful), the fact that I don’t need to invest in expensive hardware or server setups, and the fair pricing.

For everyday structural simulations (static, harmonic, dynamic, thermomechanical) it delivers everything I need. The constant updates and user-requested features are also a strong plus, showing that the platform evolves fast according to the needs of their users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

Some clients of mine expect me to use “big-name” software just for the sake of it, which is not a technical issue but can be a practical one as a freelancer.

Under the standard mechanical FEA license, SimScale is not yet at the same level of solver robustness and feature depth as flagship tools like ANSYS. Very specialized modelling (e.g. advanced composites, multiphysics, or extreme nonlinear / dynamic cases) can be tricky or even impossible, and the solver stability can occasionally be an issue on more demanding setups.

While the platform is improving rapidly and a new MARC solver is promising (but rather costly), for very niche requirements you may still need additional (and much more expensive) tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

SimScale eliminates the need for expensive local hardware and IT setups, which is a huge benefit as an independent engineering office. I can run professional simulations directly in the browser on a laptop, scale computing resources as needed, and focus on the actual engineering instead of infrastructure. The platform also shortens the learning curve thanks to its intuitive UI, so I can get models up and running quickly. Combined with responsive technical support, this allows me to deliver reliable simulation results without the overhead of traditional FEM software. From a business perspective, the pricing and flexibility make it possible for me to offer simulation services at a competitive rate, while still accessing professional-grade tools. "First Steps in CFD with SimScale: A New User’s Perspective"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

What I like best about SimScale is the customer support, that’s always readily available to help with projects. It really makes a difference, especially when you're just starting out. The platform is also easy to use and runs entirely in the cloud, so it doesn’t slow down my computer at all—that’s a huge plus! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

The platform is powerful, but for beginners, setting up simulations correctly can be a bit overwhelming without deeper guidance, even with tutorials available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

SimScale is a valuable tool for supporting our clients with simulations related to temperature homogeneity, velocity fields, confort. By using SimScale, we are able to conduct detailed simulations that assess and optimize temperature distribution within various systems or environments. This is crucial for our clients who need to ensure consistent temperature performance, whether it’s in manufacturing processes, product designs, or facility management. "Electromagnetic Simulation for surgical implants"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

I like that it is simple, and I could run 10 free simulations. Being able to take a SolidWorks assembly and just stick it right into the workbench was super helpful. The tutorials were straightforward and taught me everything I needed to get the job done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

The flow region was a little bit annoying since after it was added I would have to hide it. Then when closing and opening the projects again, it would become visible again and the project just looks like a cube when the flow region is visible.

Also, I got a lot of emails from SimScale and I usually just ignore them. I do like that when I first signed up, a real person reached out to me. That kind of surprised me, usually it's just a machine when I sign up for stuff Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

I needed to do some quick analyses on magnets to test the viability of a surgical implant. I used the electromagnetics simulations to test the forces of various configurations of magnets. I didn't need to do any heavy simulations; I just needed a general idea of how magnets interact and how I could optimize the forces. SimScale was nice because I didn't want to have to download any new software and allowed me to get quick answers to my own questions and my clients' questions. "Streamlined workflows but lacking more advanced features"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

The entire SimScale workflow is very fast for basic simulations. Personally, I have run over 50 simulations (thermal, CFD, and dynamic structural) in the past couple of months since my company started using this package.

It integrates with OnShape, so importing geometries is very quick if that happens to be your CAD package. Setting up boundary conditions is similarly efficient. Meshing and simulation runs are performed on the cloud and can be run in parallel, making the process even faster. I think SimScale is a great package for quickly gaining an approximate understanding of how a design might perform. I've used the customer support live chat a couple of times and found it helpful—response times have always been within an hour, and the support team has understood and answered my questions well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

As a relatively new simulation package, it is still missing some more advanced functionality. One downside of being such a streamlined package is that it limits control over certain setup options.

The biggest missing feature that would benefit my workflow is parametric sweeps. If a range of geometries could be imported from different OnShape configurations and then simulated in parallel with the same boundary conditions, it would be a huge improvement for my typical use cases.

Additionally, customising the meshing configuration and extracting data during post-processing could be improved. Greater flexibility in these areas would make SimScale an even more powerful tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

So far, I've been using SimScale to optimise the themal design of cells and battery modules with thermal conduction simulations and the flow balance of parallel channel coldplates using CFD. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Modern, easy to grasp, accessible simulation software."

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

I like that SimScale can really be handled by people that did not have prior experience with simulations before. The online tutorials are really great and practical.

The support team is knowledgeable and helpful, you don't have to dwell for hours on the web to find the right way to do something. The creators are there to help you.

It's absolutely great that it's cloud based so I can run dozens of simulations at the same time. It greatly limits the resources that one needs to bring to run big simulations and you can keep doing what you were doing while the sims are running!

The basic package of modules that comes at a relatively low price is just great. I do not know another software that can offer me dynamic non-linear or basic CFD simulations for this price.

The interface is modern, accessible, user-friendly. It takes your hand and leads you to the end. It will point to any mistakes in the setup or the simulation itself. It's hard to go wrong with this one. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

I would say that the resource estimator is the biggest downside of SimScale at the moment. It is frequently underestimating the core hours needed to run something. However, the mistakes can be avoided by carefully following the simulation in the beginning and knowing good practices. But for beginner users it can be really frustrating.

The geometry preparation is a bit tedious and clunky.

It would be great if default units for typical solution fields could be changed and saved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

It is solving both static and dynamic structural simulations as well as some thermal expansion cases. But we are yet to see the true benefits as we started using it just recently. I think it would be good to ask this question in a few months. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A little clunky, but gets the job done."

3.5/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

I like the cloud based feature, and it has the basic tools needed for FEA. Excellent customer support. Fairly intuitive interface if you're familiar with other FEA tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

I don't like that you can not alter or change how you interface with the program (i.e.- mouse settings etc). Some settings or options in program are difficult to find. In program modeling editor could be better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

Structural and thermal analysis. Helping me to refine my designs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Accessible simulation software"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

Walks you through the steps required for making a simulation. Pretty user-friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

Looking at results is sometimes buggy and not so helpful. E.g. "inspect point" doesn't seem to work well since the values are sometimes different than the color-coding indicates. Always I usually have issues with the cutting plane - possible to make the cutting plane invisible? Sometimes I can get this to work but not always. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

Often need quick estimates of air flow or heat transfer values to move forward with prototyping. SimScale is good for this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good experience overall."

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

Ease of use. Ability to create a wide range of simulations for the scope of my projects within hours. Good postprocessing of results. Very good customer service and technical support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

Maybe a bit "too easy". For example, having sometimes solid results that may not be that good when in-depth analysed. The software lacks some postprocess features that may be inherited from Paraview. Difficult to defend the procedures when "old-school" clients/partners with certain knowledge in CFD review the results. I miss measuring tools for models, and features that allow to combine data related to geometries when some layers are updated in a new model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

Wind engineering. From wind loads to Pedestrian Wind Comfort. I am able to perform highly demanding simulations without lossing track of project updates as changing geometry or parameters is quite easy. Accessible technical support helps avoiding bottle necks while performing complex simulations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy to use and a great support team that's available quickly"

4/5

What do you like best about SimScale?

I like that it is cloud based so that I can log in from wherever. It's very easy to use once you understand how to run simulations and the support team does a great job at helping you out with detailed videos and walkthroughs of setting up a simulation as well as troubleshooting where needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SimScale?

If you have multiple simscale windows open, it faces some issues loading the projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SimScale solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's helping us run CFD simulations for our products. Saving a lot of time by prioritizing simulations over prototyping. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
