What do you like best about Simplenote?

I like that it uses Markdown, which is more convenient than Rich Text for me as a developer.

The interface for desktop and mobile is very minimalist and focused.

I can easily hide the sidebars to create a very focused writing environment. The whole experience is clean, intuitive, and minimalist.

I also like that it's an open-source project managed by the team behind Wordpress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simplenote?

It's not something I dislike, per se, but the only way to organize things is by tagging them. There is no hierarchical organization, or archiving of notes. I use this constraint to review and clean up my notes, so it's more of a feature for me, but know that if you want to store notes long-term you will need to copy them elsewhere. What do you like best about Simplenote?

For basic note-taking and note-keeping Simplenote is a free and easy choice. It offers a very straightforward layout that allows you to generate and title noted to keep track of anything from grocery lists to meeting talking points and more. There is a collaboration feature and cross-platform compatibility to make it user-friendly in a variety of settings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simplenote?

The main con with Simplenote is just that. There isn't as much customizability -- as font choices and colors and such are limited and don't offer as much pizzaz as you might like -- and it also only supports text notes -- so no photos or graphs here. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Simplenote?

Simplenote has a very minimal look and feel. This is something I generally look for in an app to record meeting notes, thoughts, ideas, etc. I don't want to be bogged down by a gajillion different features I will never use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simplenote?

Simplenote is just a little too simple for my liking. Specifically two things that would make it perfect for me would be a WYSIWYG formatting tab (as opposed to markdown only). I also wish there was the ability to create some simple tables to record information in an organized grid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Simplenote solving and how is that benefiting you?

On a day-to-day basis, I need an extension of my brain. I don't want to try and remember the details of a meeting, conversation, or workshop, but rather have a trusted place to record these details. This helps me keep on top of my work and make sure things don't slip through the cracks. Unfortunately, because the software lacked a few things I needed in my day-to-day workflow, I didn't stick with it in the long run. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Simplenote:

Can use Markdown but doesn't feel geeky, so maybe it doesn't appeal to the power users, but the simplicity is what appeals to me. It also has collaboration features, which are easy to implement but not overly robust ... perhaps keeping with the "simple" theme :) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Simplenote solving and how is that benefiting you?

Generally, as the work workday goes on, I need to jot down many things. Passwords, workflow stuff to remember down the road, important webpages/tools/etc that I want to stash for later recall. Reminders and task lists (for the day or the week). Planning a project or even a family event. Once you tag your notes well-enough, it's easy to recall, consistent with the phone app and speedy. I've tried many tools for this stuff and Simplenote quickly became a habit that's latested. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
